  1. jack the car up on both sides in the front and take the wheels off remove all the under covers and look at the suspension parts to see if they look the same on both sides if everything looks good take it to a bodyshop and let them have a look
  2. you can take off one of the crankshaft pulley covers to get a look at part of the timing belt but i dont know if that will tell if its ne or not and theres no easy way to see the waterpump with out removing lots of parts which if you do you might as well put new ones on while your in there sorry maybe another member might know of a way
  3. that could be true but he changed all the shocks and springs
  4. thats true someone especially the dealer should have known to look for a loss of power either a vacuum, fuel or spark which is controlled by the coils let us know how you like the new car
  5. it could be that there is some frame or suspension damage just take it to a body shop and let them take a look at the reason that i say this is because a repair man once told me that when you buy a car always check around the car to make sure that everything lines up b/c if they dont thats a sign that work was done on a vehicle and if the frame was bent no matter how much a shop claims that they can straighten it the frame will never be like it was
  6. also good advice nc a blockage in the exhaust would create a loss in power but if he is also smelling fuel he should check his fuel lines for a leak let us know something Sam
  7. yeah im pretty sure thats what he means because i have the same part number for the tranny gasket T0S18685
  8. I just traded mine in for $5k. With the problem it has, I did not want to try selling it. It was worth a lot more to me and could have easily driven many more miles. The shame is, I spent nearly $4500 since the beginning of this year trying to fix it Good luck all! ← i had a similiar problem a couple of years ago and it turned out to be an ignition coil my 91 had 2 but my 98 has one for each plug i dont know which category yours falls into but it would have been worth checking out if i could have caught you earlier
  9. you need to give a little more info my first thought would be that your tranny might be about to go check your fluid level and smell it to see if is burnt i had a similiar problem in a 91 from lack of proper maintenance but it went gradually after about a month to finally it wouldnt go above 20 have you noticed a difference in power leading up to this? your fuel regulator could also be leaking these are just a few guesses and you would have to check the car and give a little more info
  10. nah we are perfectly sane our tatses are just different post some pics of your ride
  11. thanks for clearing that up man it was tripping me out
  12. why do i have the warn symbol by my name and how do i remove it?
  13. thanks guys to be honest i didnt know anything about the the toyota red stuff and when i went to the dealer the red or green question confused me so i just used the 2 gallons of dexcool i already had but you guys have really good info so next year i will definitely flush all the dexcool out for the red stuff do you guys think that is waiting too long?
  14. what kind of sealant did you use and where did you get it?
  15. good for you i feel the same way about the ls and i alwats tell people i know and dont know to buy one instead of a mb or bmw and put that change in their pocket
  16. never put a rag top on a lexus reminds me of a cadillac
  17. great pictures monarch is that your car with all those miles i appreciat everyones input but you are te only one that answered the question about the dealer now what about the dexcool argument because this is what i put in my car 2 years ago when i got it and i didnt haveany problems with it? also i think that i must have messed up my mixture with too much water.bear with me now because i know im all over th place the dexcool is orange but when i drained it yesterday it was red what does that mean
  18. i asked in my other post but no one answered when i went to the dealer and asked for coolant he asked me if i wantedgreen or red coolant as if i had a option i didnt question him on this and just said red but i did think this was strange since everyone on the forum says use red does anyone care to speculate on this?
  19. i feel for you man of course the dealer will tell you that something needs fixing its in a mechanics nature i know because i just went to auto school because i like my car so much and i was tired of paying $400-$500 hundred dollars to change plugs and wires which anyone can do in less than a hour when malls go up you know thecity is starting to grow i have some people in greensboro, durham and hendrson too maybe il see you in another post but let me know what happens
  20. ok ill let you know in a couple of days
  21. you should check to see if the cd is upside down as for the other things i dont know you should try the gs400 forums
  22. i just finished flushing out the coolant and changing the thermostat while i was in there i pulled the radiator out and cleaned it out with high pressure water the fins wwre really dirty and clogged i couldhave done a better job with a air hose now its time to wait for the next hot day the thermostat was definitely starting to stick
  23. nah he did it after the car had been sitting for about 2 hours does that mean my clutch is good? by the way i hear alot of talk about the toyota red coolant but when i went to the dealer and asked for some coolant the guy asked me red or green and if red is so vital why do they sell the green stuff? anyway m waiting for the engine to cool down some so i can do the drain and flush
  24. the reason why i suggested is b/c about 2 years ago when i still had my 91ls i needed a lower oil pan and the lexus dealer quoted me $300 but i guess they made a mistake by the way nc i used to live near st. au college in th early 90's
