  1. What year is your LS400? Some earlier threads suggested to leave the 1990 LS400 MAF untouched.
  2. Hi guys. I accidentally blew the alternator Fusible link ( the 120A one, in the engine compartment ) but I don't know how to take it out to replace. Please help. Thanks. :)
  3. Bicol-ini, Could you show us how to take out and clean the solenoid(s). I have P--->D lurch problem too. Thanks.
  4. What brand did you use and where to buy the cooler for the 1999 RX300? Thanks.

    Age?

    I'm 61/male, retired pharmacist.
  6. Thanks a lot Wwest :)
  7. Does this will let me bleed the trac AND the abs systems too? Last week, I've tried to bleed both systems (after replacing master cylinder and 2 front calipers) but nothing came out from both systems. (It's a 1990 ls400, with 208k).
  8. You're welcome. The SST 09249-63010 is called Torque wrench adapter. It looks like a thin piece/bar of metal, one end has a "male" part of a regular socket wrench (where you can attach, at a 90 degree to the piece, any socket with the same size of those 2 bolts), and the other end has a square hole to accomodate the end male part of any regular socket wrench or a torque wrench (as shown on the manual in this case to tighten the bolt). Unfortunately nowhere in the manual that says the size of any bolt or nut or SST. But both bolt A and B have the same size, I think. Maybe by checking bolt B, we can figure out the size of bolt A. Sorry.
  9. RX I've just bought a 1999 rx300 Repair manual (in 3 volumes). I hope it can be used for 2000 model too. In volume 2, I found the picture of the SST 09249-63010 which is used to loosen "bolt A" thru one of the holes on the pulley, just like you said. Bolt A cannot be removed, only loosened. And it looks like the sizes of bolt A and another bolt ("bolt B") are the same, since they have the same part # 43(440-32). (Bolt B is somewhere between bolt A and the crankshaft pulley). These 2 bolts are to be loosened in order to change the belt. I don't know how to show those pages to you since I've never done tranfering/sending a digital picture on the Web before. But I can borrow a digital camera from my son on Tuesday then maybe you can show me how to do it. Or I can make copies of those pages and mail it to you if you want. :)
  10. I just finished rebuilding the power steering pump and installing an in-line filter too. I'll let you know how my filter looks in a couple of months.
  11. Thank you so much RX for your info and recommendations. I feel like I have a family here at this forum. I will try to replace those belts sometime after the July 4th holiday and I certainly will keep you guys posted.
  12. I have a 1999 RX300 with 86k miles and no warning lights or troubles so far. How would I know when to change the alternator and power steering pump belts?
  13. That's right. It has standard thread. I had to buy a 5-inch vise to loosen this "bolt". :)
  14. Same here. My 208k 1990 LS has timing belt replaced twice at the same dealership. They never change the crankshaft seal. Now, 75k after the last timing belt change, the oil leakage is making a big mess under the engine, from the crankshaft pulley toward the rear end of the car. I guess I have to bring the car in to the same place to take care of the problem. Maybe I'll have them change the timing belt, water pump, pulleys, tensioner, cam & crankshaft seals and coolant pipe O-ring.... (everything) as well, for almost the same labor cost. :cries:
  15. Nice pix 1990LS400!! Could you share your experience on how to install your Rear window shade. Looks pretty cool. :)
  16. I'm looking for a set of 1990 LS400 hub caps, chrome plated. Plz help. Thanks. :)
  17. Lexus recommends every 90k miles.
  18. I have the same problem. My 1990 LS400 had timing belt changed at dealer the last time. Now, after 75k miles, I have oil leak at the crankshaft. It creates a mess at the oil pan area and all the areas toward the rear of the car. I cleaned it up but it kept coming back after about 1k. It is a real mess down there. Apparently the dealer didn't change the crankshaft seal. They did change the cam seals though. Can the oil leak at crankshaft cause damage to the timing belt, may be in 4 to 5 years from now? Should I have only the seal changed now? And if so, I think I'd change the timing belt too. Or, should I just live with the mess for now and wait until the timing belt gets to its 90k-life (approx. 4 to 5 years from now) then take care of the whole thing (timing belt, water pump, coolant pipe O-ring, pulleys, tensioner, cam and crankshaft seals,...) to save the labor charge? Thanks.
  19. Any suggestions for a good tech in San Jose, CA ? Please!
  20. I also have a 1999 RX300, with 85k, (no warning lights on dashboard yet), and I'd like to know when do I have to change my O2 sensors too. Thanks.
  21. Thank you very much
  22. Could you give us the names of the " Two O rings are also needed" when changing timing belt. Where are they located on the engine? I might have to change mine too. Thanks.
  23. Where did you buy the pressure hose? Was it OEM (~$300)or generic (by AC-Delco or the like.....at ~$64)? Do you think generic is OK to use? Thanks.
  24. Your tutorial said that it is mainly for the SC400. Maybe that makes the difference. But on the Lexus shop manual for 1990 LS400 (page SR-111), the Front Side Plate needs 2 O-rings to be replaced, the outer and the INNER one. And all of these O rings are included in my rebuild kit that I bought from Lexus. Sorry, but that's what happened to me. :D
  25. Right. These 2 O rings are included in the rebuid kit. The inner O ring (not the outer one) on the Front side plate, was not mentioned in the tutorial, that's why I'd like to remind you guys. I could feel the difference after replacing the ball bearing on my pump. Also, since ATF got into my alternator, I opened its back to clean the oil at the brushes area, and I found out that the brushes are "almost new" even after 208k and over 10 years of service. I think it can definitely go for another 208k! Then I made an alternator cover using galvanized sheet metal, and folded and smoothed out at all the edges. I didn't change my Hi pressure hose though. Maybe I should too. Let me know where you plan to buy it. Thanks. :D
