  1. on my 1990 ls400, i had a mechanic installed daizen bushings on both upper control arms about 2 months ago, and now they squeak badly (too bothersome even with windows up). i have to spray silicon on them every 2 weeks. there was a post lately stated that "daizen bushing sucks", so i'm not sure i will use them to replace the lower control arms or not. should i buy 2 new oem lca? about $200 each at irontoad.com. any suggestions? thanks
  2. The screen can be removed by sliding out while turning, by hand, and with great care because it's very gragile. While cleaning it using a SOFT tooth brush, I broke 1 of its "windows" myself!! So you know how fragile it is.
  3. Jibbby, I have a 1990 LS (with all OEM brakes system and 15" wheels) and I just want to improve the braking power. Do you think the 93-95 Supra turbo calipers will fit on my car? Thanks.
  4. Tta300, I called a ocal Lexus dealer, and they don't know anything about the felt type filter. Could you post the part #, so I can call them back. Anyway, if I can't replace the filter inside the tranny, maybe I should install an in-line filter. That's an easy way to clean the ATF along with changing the fluid each 15k miles , I think. Mine is 1999 RX300, with 94k miles. Thanks.
  5. I have a 1990 RX300 too, but I've never had problem with headlight. So I don't know how to help except to say that I'd trace the wires and check the voltage using a voltmeter. I have a set of 1999 Lexus RX300 shop manual, so if you need any page/chapter I can take picture and send it to you. Just tried to help. Good luck.

  10. I have them installed (4 rotors) and I get more noise (probably by not being precisely machined), but feel safer with much improved braking power. I bougfht the set from a similar seller, somewhere in Cerritos, southern CA. I hope I can find a set of 2-piston front calipers, made by Toyota for another car (Supra?...), that can be used on 1990 LS. I really need more braking power for the 1990 LS.
  11. I have a 1990 LS400, and I always leave the headlight switch (at near the steering wheel) on. That way, I have "daytime running light". And, after getting to destination and turning off the engine, I make the headlights turn off by just opening the driver's door (then lock the car and leave). My battery seems to be OK with that setting. But I always replace it with a new one from WalMart every 2 years, (~$40, I believe), even if it's still good, just to be sure.
  12. My wife's LS430 has the ultra luxury package, but i have NO idea what it specifically has in it. It's the best of the bect though. Nav with backup camera, Bluetooth® technology (which i hate every aspect of), Perforated leather seating surfaces, Dynamic Laser Cruise Control, Laminated side glass, Intuitive Parking Assist, Front climate-control seats with heat/cool knobs, Headlamp washers, Power door closers and Rear-seat heaters. and the sunshade thing for the back window. Additional Options: - Interior Upgrade Package with perforated luxury leather trim - SmartAccess (coolest thing EVER but my wife hates it LOL) - 18-inch all-season tires with polished-finish alloy wheels - Preferred Accessory Package (includes Cargo net, Trunk mat and Wheel locks). ← May I know why you didn't like the Bluetooth tech. I've never tried it, but I just love the concept, just for safety reason. Thanks.
  13. My next car, if I can afford it, would be the new 2007 hybrid LS (I like Curtain airbags and Bluetooth technology...). But I won't get rid of my 1990 LS though. My wife has a 2006 MB S500, and the engine noise does't sound as smooth as my 1990 LS400. I still feel like metal to metal grinding, or sort of. And the first problem ( at ~900miles ) was the AC stopped working on a very hot day. The Outside Temperature Gauge showed -37 Farenheit (!) instead of +92 F. Maybe the thermostat coudn't go higher than +92F, and swung back to bottom of the scale to -37F. And maybe that confused and locked the AC operation in the Off position(?). MB dealer said they have replaced the thermostat to fix the problem.
  14. I think I fixed the main wind noise problem on my car. As I opened the hood, I found the rubber weatherstrip (near the scuff plate and wiper arms) has lost most of its clips, and dropped way down into the engine compartment. So, a trip to local Toyota dealer to get 7 more clips (part # 90467-10146, cost=$11.52 for 7 clips; total clips per car=9.) and 10 minutes of installation has solved my main wind noise problem. The "wind" noise probably comes from engine noise which leaks thru that weatherstrip onto the windshield and I felt it all around the car. Now I'm back to the "normal" wind noise level which is higher than it used to be, of course. Nc211, I certainly will do exactly as you recommeded to reduce my now "normal" wind noise. By the way, what does "clay bar" mean? 1990LS400, I will try stethoscope if I can't get to my acceptable noise level by waxing, using rain-x, conditioning the rubber...... I went to Kragen, and they don't have the electronic ones, but only have the type with a metal (aluminum or steel?) rod to "hear and transmit" the sound. I think its use is good for something (should be metal, I guess) that vibrates while emitting noise, and the metal rod has to touch it so we can "hear" thru the stethoscope. If some air leaks thru a small hole at the rubber weatherstrip on doors, for example, can the metal rod help us "hear" the noise? RFeldes, wind deflector is a good idea, and an easy one too. But I'm not sure it can survive the drive-thru car wash or not. I'm too lazy most of the time to hand wash my car! Thank you all. :)

  16. Rusty, I used to have the same whistle problem with my antenna until I removed it along with the car phone. My problem now probably is all around the body of the car: moonroof and doors.....(?). I just put scotch (packing) tape on top of the car, around the moon roof, and that did reduce the noise just a little bit. Maybe I have to do the same to an additional door, and gradually add one more door each time, until problem found, hopefully. Then, next step would be to find out how to use the Wind Noise Kit around moonroof and door areas of problem (after taking off the ugly scotch tapes). Nc211, I went to Lexus dealer, and they showed me the Kit (I didn't buy it because I don't know how to use it. The price was ~$106). It has all kinds, thicknesses and sizes of self-adhesive black foams. And I looked in the 1990 Lexus shop manuals (2 volumes), I couldn't find instructions on how to use/apply the foams to fix the problem. Any ideas/suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks
  17. I got wind noise at a speed over 55mph (on a 1990 LS 400). Sounds like air got inside thru some cracks in the windows or sunroof (?), but all windows are fully closed including the sunroof. And the noise level increases with speed from 55mph and up. How can I reduce the noise? How can I find where does the leak come from? I remember the car was so quiet when I first bought it 15 years ago. Thanks.

  20. Thanks, Cary. Akewlguy, I'll consider your type of tires when it's time for me to change my current Michelin ones. I bought my tires at Costco (because they offer life-time free wheel balancing) but sometimes there isn't many options. Thanks everyone.
  21. When doing this, you might want to consider cleaning the 2 solenoid valves mentioned earlier by bicol-ini.
