  1. Do you know what type bulb it is?
  2. All is well in Lafayette Lousiana. I am 135mi west of the hurricane eye wall path. Right now the area is housing tens of thousands of Catrina evacuees. Gasoline prices have remained steady, around 1.69-1.79 for premium lexus fuel. Our circuit switched voice (fixed and wireless) is completely maxed out. Thank goodness for Voice over IP and the statistical multiplexing of the Internet. My wife and I are offering our pasture space for equine evacuees as well, if you know anyone in need of it. The worst weather observed here was 20mph gusts, and some sparse rainbands with a dark sky. A good friend of mine is staying in Lafayette, evacuated early from Metarie LA, in the New Orleans area. He posted several pictures of his apartment here: Crescent City Supras.com It was a two story apartment. Its very informative, showing the interior destruction from flood and rainwater. Regards, Ben
  3. what type of bulb does a 92 ls400 need for its amber fog lamps (auxillary lamp, or whatever) most places dont list a bulb for that appication. TIA Ben
  4. I cleaned out my EGR valve housing, it was caked full of carbon. Air flows through it now. Same EXACT problem as before though.... on the highway car starts to surge at 65mph or so. I have disabled the EGR to fix the problem for now. I was considering it may be an exhaust blockage which forces too much EG into the R :-) But really, it makes sense. Power still seems low at the high end of the revs. If there was a blockage it would raise the backpressure and cause too much exhaust to exit via the EGR system when it engages. The TCCS probably sees this, as a rich condition at the O2 sensor (one of the trouble codes I get). So it cuts back on the EGR VSV and the engine starts making power again.... then it re-engages the EGR and too much exhaust gets sucked into the engine, power drops off.... rich condition... seeing a vicious cycle here? Only a problem at interstate speeds, where the exhaust volume is of sufficient quantity to cause increased backpressure. Anyone follow this line of thought? Please be something wrong with the exhaust.... I will order some rush headers and some raw tailpipe/muffler supplies the same day :-) Ben
  5. I bought my LS400 with no stereo system, just speakers, an upgraded subwolfer, and a hole in the dash. I've installed a DVD deck, and was wondering how it connects to the OE subwolfer/amp system? The aftermarket subwolfer is connected to the OE wiring, but I am not sure where the amplifier is. And does the amp use speaker level signals, or do I somehow need to get line levels to it. (I have a subwolfer or LFE output on headunit). I noticed the other two sub-harnesses in the radio pocket, undoubtedly for the CD changer and possibly the subwolfer amp as well? My subwolfer is idle and dead while music is playing, although all of the OE speaker are working fine. TIA Ben
  6. I have the same issue with my tach needle. It sits on the bottom of the display most of the time, but at high revs just moves a little towards the bottom of the scale. Someone had once mentioned they found a ground problem with the tach....
  7. What else would normally cause the light to illuminate? It seems like two possible inputs would not require a control unit to manage the light. In the owner's manual it indicates that if those two problems are not causing the light to stay on, to have the car checked by lexus. Does anyone have a wiring diagram from the toyota service manual?
  8. I have been trying to track down the reason my brake system warning lamp is on. It seems to serve two purposes, parking brake reminder, and low brake fluid level warning. The brake fluid level switch is a NO switch, and it is functioning correctly. Even disconnected it does not fix the warning lamp. The parking brake switch appears to be working properly, when I lightly engage the parking brake pedal I see the warning lamp get brighter (as in more voltage to the lamp as the parking brake switch is completing a second path of current to the warning lamp). What else does the brake system warning light do? Does anyone have the toyota service and repair manuals? or does anyone have electrical diagrams? Thanks in advance. Ben
  9. I've been reading up on the surging/bucking at highway speed.... I have a bad case of it. My car has difficulty maintaining 70mph in overdrive due to misfire (which seems to cause the bucking) and also occasional part throttle acceleration drop off. Unplugged and capped off the vacuum line to the EGR valve, and the problem has completely dissapeared. This is a super easy thing to check for. I have not had the time to open up the ERG system and check it out, but running smooth and strong on the highway now. Might get to this today after drain/refill on transmission. Stats: 92 LS400 128k miles. Just tuned up with Denso plugs, fuel filter, oil change. Bucking and power loss at cruising speed only occurs when engine is hot. Tuneup had zero effect on bucking.
  10. I'm planning on changing my timing belt next week, and I have heard a rumor that I should change my tensioners at the same time. Is this true? Are there other parts to change as well? Water pump? I already have caps/rotors ready to go. Thanks, Ben
  11. Just picked up a 92 LS, and the tach seems to work, but is a couple thousand RPM to low (like the clock position of the needle is off by 60 deg.) Do the needles clock positions just slip if you hold back on the movement shaft (toyta supras do) and adjust the needle position. Shows about 1500rpm at WOT just before shifting. thanks Ben
