  2. Usually I fill up with about 5 gallons left in the tank, so right before the orange light comes on. An average highway tank is 475+ miles and city mileage is 390ish miles. These cars are great on fuel mileage!
  3. The tank holds 22.5 gallons-low fuel light comes on with 5 gallons left. I get 20/26+ mileage. LSs get however much fuel econ you decide on-it's all about how you accelerate and keep it steady on the hwy.

  5. My brakes make a sort of creaking sound too-a stretching cable sounds right on with my car. I can only hear it when I creep foward at stop lights/traffic/drive-thru/etc. I never hear anything while in motion though. I was told that it's something with the fitment of the brake pads and is nothing to worry about. Slamming on the brakes + resulting clunk surely makes me think strut rods. Have you done those yet? I know your sig says you have, but I just read Jacob's thread about changing them, and it sounds as if you haven't?
  6. 95-00 LSs are second generation cars...notice that UCF20L is on your id sticker in the door jam just as UCF20L would also be marked on a 98-00. The third generation is the LS430. ;)

I waay overpaid for my car considering the condition it was in when I got it, and I wish I would have had the dealer/ a shop do the timing belt, and while they were in there, they should have done the cam/crank seals. Other than that, it's all been great!! I've learned to get over the price-cosmetically it was very bad(leather, paint, etc.), but I don't know if there is another around that is in such great mechanical shape-and I guess that's the most impt. part. :D
  8. The PIAA lights are excellent. I bought mine online at tirerack.com for something like $80. I want to say PIAA has an "authorized reseller" in Metarie somewhere. You can get the SilverStars just about anywhere-WalMart, PepBoys, Autozone, etc. They are about half price of the PIAAs, but I don't think they are as strong. They were very easy to install-it took maybe a minute on each side. ;)
  9. Welcome Tony! There really isn't too much do under the hood-I guess plugs, wires, air filter, fuel filter maybe, check o2 sensors, clean throttle body, flush coolant, and change tranny fluid and filter would make a decent tune up. The main problems lay in the suspension since the bushings get old and crack in the strut rods, control arms, knuckles, ball joints, tie rods, etc. I wouldn't go to Lexus of New Orleans if you want them to do the tune-up since their service dept. is pretty incompetent. ;)
  10. Point well taken and duely edited! ;) I stand by what I said, but maybe it's better for PM. We have a Toro personal pace 6.5hp, Echo blower and trimmer, and McLane edger for a small suburbia front yard(small-none back yard b/c of pool). The Toro is excellent.

You'll never catch me! j/k I had her spooled up to 105 on the interstate this morning when I was flying back to the house...I'm not even remotely kidding when I say it was smoother at 105 than 75! It's the wierdest thing. With a car that was that eager to crank up to 105, I think we've still got a beautifully long road ahead! That's great that you got all of those parts replaced; she must feel brand new! This is turning in to a great thread everyone!
  14. I'm sorry to hear about this disaster. Your car will look near perfect if you get a good, reputable body shop to do the work, and there's no need to worry about peeling or other problems because almost all body shops(around here at least) offer a lifetime warranty on the work they do to the car. My LS was backed in to several months ago, and they painted the entire side of the car, but you'd never know since the paint match and blending is that good. After I had my car back for about a month, someone pointed out a defect in the work on the car; I brought it back, and they corrected the problem at no charge to me under the warranty. On such a new car, I'd spend the money and get it fixed right. ;)

  16. That's a good suggestion, but the car is totally smooth going in to gear after it's warmed up. Wouldn't a worn u joint or bushing make a jerk all the time? <_< Any thoughts?
  17. No problem! The ES and LS are really great cars. The ticking is the sound of an impending valve adjustment(quite normal on an older car). ;) I'd be sure to take the car over 70mph and slam on the brakes(at any speed) before you buy it. You can get a good feel for any suspension problems that way. They are gorgeous looking cars!! B)
  18. I'd keep what you have. Or atleast before you trade, give SRK a call. I know he's offered more than once to drive your car and share his professional opinion. Handling poorly is the name of the game with a LS, but what's the NSX for?!?!? B) With regards to your engine vibration while reving, have your motor mounts been changed? I'm sure you have a bad bushing somewhere that's causing your vibration, but a poorly balanced tire can also do it. Have your o2 sensors ever been changed? I'm sure there's someone else that would be willing to work on your car other than the dealer! Perhaps a friend could recommend someone?
  19. Staying alive is always a plus of the seat belt. Not to mention, it's not fair to your spouse/kids when they are going to be the ones taking care and dealing with you when you are a quadriplegic because you can't function on your own because you didn't want to wear your seat belt. I don't care if you've been driving 75 years; it only takes one quick run to the grocery store for some milk Saturday morning to get nailed by some idiot running a redlight/stop sign.
  20. I've logged many miles in my '94 ES and '95 LS over the past few years. I'd have to say that the ES is a bit more sporty than the LS although I find that the suspension in the LS rolls less in the turns. It doesn't make much sense to me that the LS rolls less and has a floatier ride. The ES definantly has a firmer ride, but it leans like crazy through the turns(it doesn't bottom out and the ride is contolled, so I would think the shocks are good). Who's engine is smoother between the LS and ES is like asking who's your favorite child? lol The 1MZ-FE(3.0) and 1UZ-FE(4.0) are both exceptional feats of engineering excellence. I find that the LS's tranny might be just a slight micrometer smoother than the ES. As smooth and quiet as the ES's 3.0 is, it is s l o w, but acceleration is more than adequate. It's just not the same as punching the LS's pedal...188hp v. 260hp, so obviously it's going to be different! I'm 6'4, and the ES was just too small-there's no legroom. The ES's headroom was actually adequate for me even with the sunroof; it was the legroom that killed me. Strangely enough, I was more comfortable in the backseat. I only drive it on occasion, so I enjoy my time behind the wheel now that it's not my daily driver! The LS on the other hand has more head and legroom, so it's much more comfortable for me. The biggest difference I notice between my ES and LS other than the roominess and power is that the LS is a much heavier duty machine. The LS takes miles much better than my ES, and the LS is far more reliable even though its got a lot of miles. If you are looking for something sporty, the ES and LS are both bad choices. If you want a smooth, elegant, refined cruiser, then, you need to look no further. B)
  21. How do you start the car after it dies? Does it start when its ready to, do you have to jump it, etc.?
  22. Sorry to hear about your car. A PDR could probably take it out for a decent price. Picking a parking spot is always a tough decision for me. lol Taking two spots is a recipe for disaster: you risk someone wedging their car in or pi$$ing someone off--they key your car. I like to park as far from the door as possible and avoid parking next to trucks(see topic of post), coupes(long doors), SUVs(soccer moms w/ kids), and vans(see suvs). Usually, I'll find another luxury car or rice rocket/pimp mobile to park next to since the owners typicaly take good care of their cars. Also, at universitys, park as far away from the entrance as possible. Stupid college kids passing by will do anything for laughs like keying a luxury car. I've already been keyed once at school-I learned the hard way on where to park.

Gumart, I can only hear it when I accelerate in the 2500-3500rpm range when the engine is cold which is once every blue moon since I usually never accelerate past 2k(since I'm cheap--want good gas econ...I can't help my Semitic roots. lol). My idle is silent though! I have no idea on how long it will take before it gets worse. I'd run like hell from pure city miles. My mother drives strictly city miles; her daily commute is a total of about 3 miles with an occasional trip to the bank/grocery. It's murder on the cars and has killed two transmissions(in two different cars) in less than 60k miles as a result of short trips everyday.
  24. Also, make sure your brake fluid is where it should be. ;)
