  1. Yes, it's always on 5 when you put the shifter to M. It goes down to 2, but from a standing start the car starts in 1 and auto shifts to 2. Then you can eshift to the next gears up or down, depending on your speed. The number in the window is the highest gear that the trans will go into until you eshift it to a higher gear.
  2. You might check at this site for Hotchkis sways. They have tested them and should know if they will fit your car. http://www.is300.net/store/customer/produc...1&cat=22&page=2 Here also is the Hotchkis web page with their item number for the IS300 http://www.is300.net/store/customer/produc...1&cat=22&page=2
  3. Do you have a link to a website for this? Thanks
  4. Please consider people with dial up connections, and also the fact that there are more appropriate place to play with your images. The image function is intended for more topic related pics. I'm sure you understand.
  5. I've read some post on swtching trans on another forum. Most people don't think it's worth it. It might be if you were going to build like a monster 500 HP car, but probably not worth the cost and effort on a daily driver.
  6. Carson Toyota discounts Toyota and Lezus parts. http://www.newtoyotaparts.com/html/aboutus.html Also check the for sale ads here. http://www.is300.net/modules.php?name=Foru...=viewforum&f=13
  7. I don't think we all said anything of the kind. But we are talking manual trans here.. Right?
  8. Many people say Bridgestone Blizzaks are good. You might look on www.tirerack.com Another option is to get a steel wheel and tire package in 16". http://www.1010tires.com/
  9. Also no. A 2001 in excellent condition is barely worth that price.
  10. Have you checked your alternator belt? I don't know if that car has a battery charge meter or not, but if it does, it should read about 13 volts. Also watch that meter with the engine idling and turn on the lights. It should still hold the 13 v.
  11. this should answer your question and btw, i m proud of my car AND YES, i STILL like the ability to drift when "needed".IMO take it easy. If you've been to the track then you should already know. Put some Hotchkis sway bars on and set the rear stiffer than the front. That should give you an oversteer condition. Also pump your tires up to about 45 PSI. As far as burnouts, that's hardly ever a necessity, but you can do that by turning off the TRAC, hold the brake with your left foot and crank up to about 3000 to 3500 RPM and let the brake off. That will do it, if you have an Eshift.
  12. I went directly from a Civic to a 2002 IS and there ain't no comparison. Just the effortless power on the road and the handling is enough to make a really big difference. As far as a girls car. Yes, it's much better for picking up chicks than most cars.
  13. Is it ABS or TRAC kicking in? On any slick surface you have to use a much lighter touch on the gas and the brakes. ABS will kick in if it detects any wheel not turning. TRAC will kick in if it detects a rear wheel spinning. 2001 models had some TSB's that called for reflashing the ECU. TC002-03 MAY 03 Engine Controls - ECM Reset Memory Function EG003R-01 NOV 02 Engine Controls - Poor Throttle Response/Downshift Time EG005-02 OCT 02 Engine Controls - Harsh 2nd to 3rd Gear A/T Upshift SS001-01 MAR 01 ECU - Flash Reprogramming Process One or more of those may affect your car. http://www.alldata.com/TSB/31/01310815.html
  14. Didn't say to do it now. If you don't know how, take to a shop. Sounds like you're onto something with that stop leak you put in there. We didn't know about that before.
  15. Can you disconnect it and look inside? See if it's clogged and see if it opens and closes.
  16. Normal driving with mostly stock motor, the trans should do just fine.
  17. There are places online to buy those parts much cheaper than at the dealers. Often you can also get them at a Toyota dealer for about half of what Lexus charges.
  18. What do you mean by weak? Some people have had some shifting problems, and you can tear the trans and clutch up by racing a lot or boosting too much. Overall though I think it's ok.
  19. If you want to test the TRAC, just do this. Stop somewhere safe on pavement, maybe a parking lot. Push hard on the brake with your left foot and hold it down. Rev the engine until the tires start to spin. TRAC will engage and the engine will slow down until the tires stop spinning.
  20. Yes, sure does sound like the MAF sensor. needs cleaned or replaced. I don't know about the 94, but most models will go into "limp" mode when the MAF isn't reading correctly.
  21. Does the engine temperature guage come up to normal? If not, the thermostat may be bad. The thermostat stays closed until the engine warms up, then it opens and allows coolant to circulate. If the thermostat is stuck open the engine won't warm up completely in cold weather and you won't get much heat from the heater. This is usually easy to replace. It should be located near the water pump. Have someone check that out. They don't cost much and it''s worth it to just replace and see it it helps. This is one of the most common problems causing a no heat condition.
