  1. Just wonder Have you ever had/see/feel it work ? yesterday rainning heavy in NJ... while driving.. the two wheels on the right side of my ES... hit water.. (about 3-4 inches deep) (*) When my old Daytona hit water like that... the car slow down... the steering wheel.. vibrate and swing... I have to use lot of force to hold the steering wheel.. to keep the car go straight This time.... the ES slowed down a little (the Daytona body is lower.. => some part of body and the wheels are in water; ES is higher.. so just the wheels are in water => more force holding on the Daytona than the ES).... but I didn't feel the steering wheel vibrate or swing ... Is it b/c the VSC and traction control have activated ?.. (I didn't see any warning light on or flashing)
  2. Just check the battery feature of ES and Camry: ES : 65 amp hours (Ah) battery Camry: Battery with run down protection "This prevents excessive power drain on the battery. Battery run-down protection leaves enough power reserve to restart the vehicle" Just wonder why ES.. doesn't have this nice feature... (Battery with run down protection)
  3. SW03ES: you can use the seat memory... for the folded down mirror... The ES has 2 seat memories..... (if you are the only driver) use the second one for reverse... I set the second one with side mirror down and seat swing a little back and a little higher.. ( better rear visibility) So anytime... I make a reverse ... or make a parallel parking... I just press the second seat memory.... after done... switch back the first one... to get back to normal driving position
  4. steviej:... thanks for the tip...
  5. With light setting at auto mode... If you turn off the engine.. the light.. still on.. for a while (I think 60 sec) To shut off the HID light: when I turn off the engine... I turn the switch to DRL off.. it will shut the HID light... then I turn it back to auto... 60 seconds or so of HID headlight.. I think it will be like a day for stand by mode...
  6. I commute daily by bus... and 03 ES is my weekend car (just has about 2000 miles for 5 months) Last Friday eve, I couldn't start the car... Sat... lost power again... :-( (the battery status indicator is red)... Brought to dealer... they changed the battery for me... But, the service rep. told me that I have to drive the car at least 2 hours (spreading during the week)... not just weekend... Question: ES doesn't have battery run-down protection... ? ES in stand-by mode eat that much battery power... ? and Have you ever lost power if you not drive for a week...? Thanks, PS: My other car , the 90 Daytona...(since the day I have the ES)... I even drive less... sometimes I didn't drive for almost a month... but never have problem with battery...
  7. "It starts as silver mirror at the bottom of the window and fades/transitions into just dark/black tint at the top of the window" steviej: that is the silver metallic tint... (like a mirror)... depend on the angle you look at it and angle of light (the sun)... it will be silver reflect... and the other part will be black... silver: (I like most)... silver metallic probably will make ES looks more sportier.. but.. yeah.. I'm afraid of the crown victoria... dark black: is it too dark for silver car light black: light black will keep the elegance look of ES... front light, rear dark black:... "20 in back.. and 35 in front" chillaxin: how does it look..?... or should I go 35 for all windows (uniform)... Thanks all,
  8. I have a 03 Allabaster Metallic.. (looks very much like silver) Should I go for black (non-reflective) or silver (metallic) ? and how dark should I go ? Thanks
  9. I mean the other way... The computer problem (hesitation) may cause... the VSC operates not properply / functionally...
  10. IC..... that's explain why NJ will ticket for people who eat while driving..... probably... for speed and fuel improvement... Talking about weight: A lot of time, I see.... (production version) car racing... I always.. see they have 2 people.... (driver and front passenger)... why ?? b/c long drive... => switch driver... or b/c for weight balancing... left and right ??
  11. not just weight reducing... when you have less gas in the tank.. the car weight distribution will be shift up front => nose may be go tiny down... => you also gain.. little drag... :-) Yeap... water weight is about 8 lbs per gallone 1 gallon of gasoline is about 6 lbs.. When gas light almost come up... you are about 16 gallons less than when filling up 16 gallons * 6 lbs = 96 lbs But only right after we stopping at the gas station... Most the time... we are driving at half tank or 3/4 tanks... 3/4 tank: 5 gallons * 6 lbs = 30 lbs half tank: 10 gallons * 6 lbs = 60 lbs In your case you are just about 36 lbs to 66 lbs less.. than normal.. driving condition ES (3.0L - 210 hp) probably has no problem to handle the above amount.... So reducing weight (from gas) is distribute very minimal to the super speed ... that you got... or is it because you were rushing to the gas station...???.... :)
  12. About the mpg: Observing the mpg on the information driving status display... give me an idea.. (probably) can increase our mpg (*) It requires little interactive from us.. Hey... I don’t know whether it is harmful (for the car) or not Assume you want to travel a distance of 60 miles... let's say on highway.. Assume the slope of the road is minimal.. (you are driving on very smooth turnpike ) 1. Constant: If you hold your gas pedal steady...(like you using your cruse)... your car moving at 60mph ... the mpg will be for example 30mpg => it will take you 1 hour to complete.. and 2 gallons 2. UP/DOWN: (theory as the multi-information display on the odometer) UP : If you speed up to 65mph.. (gas: 20mpg).. DOWN: then release gas pedal...car gradually slow down (gas: 99.9mpg).. then when it slow to example 55 mph... repeat cycle a gain.. speed up to 65 mph => 1 minutes to reach 65 mph 20 mpg 1 minutes free drive 99.9 mpg your speed avg will be 60 mph... => you still complete your distance travel in 1 hour your gas consume avg ( 20 + 99.9 ) / 2 = 60 mpg Of course.. we don't want to drive like a hiccup 1 up/ 1 down... then up.. then down.. Unless you want to achieve 60mpg (as the theory) :-).. if the gas price go up $5 (and the theory is correct)... just imagine... on the turnpike... cars are all driving that same pattern... We will have a radio station... broadcasting the rhythm.. so everybody will drive in that harmony.... :) For our daily driving: if we can use the acceleration (UP).. for passing.. and do a lot of release pedal (DOWN) when cruising... according to the computer calculation.. => we can increase our mpg..
  13. Little thought about the Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Traction Control With Electronic Throttle Control System... allows the computer.. easy to control the car.. by applying brake, power (or little gas)... to keep the car go straight... If computer has little hesitate with quickly acceleration.... the equation already complex... then if also applying the VSC control, Traction control.. if it also has hesitate then: a sudden acceleration... with (unknown when/which) some braking apply.... on (unknown when/which) tire.... =>.... roller coast experience may occur.. We all love our beauty ES.... so I don't think... you want to sudden change acceleration at sloppy curves...rite ??...... Hey... don't test it ... (unless you check financial report of Lexus and discuss it first with your lawyer :-) =========================================== From Lexus web site: "... Lexus Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) is an electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether VSC will be effective in preventing a loss of control..."
  14. Yeap.. agree... I pressed the pedal little too quick.... . Just tried again... slowly..... it... flawless... - When I accelerate slowly.. gear doesn't change.. only rpm.. gradually increase... (that's why it smooth) - When I did it quickly.... I think gear dropped... So (I think) probably it just the way of how Electronic Throttle Control System works… - With the traditional cable: You press pedal => vale open => gas come out => engine response => car move - With the Electronic Throttle: press gas pedal => signal send to computer... computer get the current information (how hard pedal press, current gear, current speed) and execute its if/else logical => after solving that equation then decide what the best (as programmed) to do You: suddenly press hard on gas pedal Computer: "... Everybody.. listen... the result of our Alzheimers program show that our boss want to speed up... So let do it quick ... Transmission: change to low gear... And you.. gas: the gas pedal has been pressed so hard... so pump more gas to engine... "... (That explain for the dealy) and as the result of lower gear and more gas…... => vzooom.... :) Happy driving everybody...
