    Garmin Info

I think you misunderstand. Yes, you can download updated software free, but you have to pay for updated maps. Very similar to the Lexus NAV systems yearly upgraded DVD maps, except Garmins are a lot cheaper. BTW: Your Garmin C340 has been discontinued.....just like everything in electronics. :)

    Garmin Info

I bought a Garmin Nuvi 350 a couple of months ago and it came loaded with the latest map(City Navigator North America NT 2008). I think the best thing for you to do is call Garmin on the phone and ask what the latest maps they issue, and if you're entitled to get a free upgrade, although I doubt it....Normally Garmin charges $ 139.27 USD You can check if you have the newest map here: http://www8.garmin.com/unlock/update.jsp
  3. I'm not familiar with the Aviator, but when I was in Scottsdale, AZ a couple of weeks ago, I was using my son-in-laws '06 Lincoln Navigator with about 40k miles on the odometer. I was really surprised with the quiet, comfortable, ride...no rattles! It was great! As far as the gas mileage.........now that's another story. LOL :D
  4. No, I didn't have the exact same problem on the '03, but I still think the 5th generation NAV is head and shoulders above the 4th generation Mainly because of the high resolution screen, and areas of accurate tracking. So, after reading what it said in the NAV manual, as illustrated in my above post, I guess I shouldn't even mention this problem when I bring the car in for service. That also holds true for ALL the generations of GPS tracking devices, including the Prius.
  5. I found this page in the Lexus Navigation Manual, but the question is, how come there are such inconsistencies between NAV's in different cars, especially since they're using the same satellites for positioning?
  6. So......what do we do now? All I know is the NAV in the Lex cost mucho bucks more than my portable, so the least I could expect was great or greater accuracy! :whistles:
  7. I noticed that when I had my car a few months that the NAV system, on occasion, would show the position of my car in the wrong place on the screen. I brought my car to the dealers service dept. and was told that they were aware of this problem and they had to change the DVD disc to upgrade the firmware......NOT the mapping. This change was done, but yesterday, I programmed the NAV to go a short distance....about 15 miles away, and I noticed that the position of my car on screen was approximately 200 feet behind where it should have been. It should have indicated that I was in the intersection. I might add that sometimes the indications are correct. I tested the same route on my portable Garmin Nuvi and the indications were dead on! Did anybody else notice that problem? I don't know what Lexus will do for me as far as correcting this glitch. :cries:
  8. You probably could get a DVD player to fit, but it still wouldn't work since the built in electronics were not designed to decode DVD's. I suggest that you find a proper CD player replacement, unless you can find a geek type person to modity the electronics.
  9. I'm sure that many members would be interested in the seriousness of the transmission problems/issues that you seemed to have skirted over. I have to agree with the statement SW03ES' made in the above post. Furthermore, this holds true for ALL auto manufacturers all over the world.
  10. Ohhh.......I certainly would complain, but so far I'm very happy with the new 6 speed transmission on my ES. :)
  11. You will never know until you check out this upgrade on a NAV system that has the 7.1 installed. Everything on the upgrade depends on when the company did the mapping. Example: Was the elevated freeway/streets there during the mapping?
  12. Welcome to the club. :) Lexus will NOT retrofit any car that originally came from the factory without NAV or an ML system. Even if they did, the cost of parts and labor would be super expensive, like in the $1000's. My suggestion is to buy a portable GPS system......I just bought a Garmin Nuvi, and it works every bit as good as the unit in my ES350.....and alot cheaper. Also, If you decide to upgrade your radio, I would go to an Auto Electronics company and check out what they can offer in aftermarket units....but it won't be a Mark Levinson unit.
  13. That's a very hard question to answer accurately, since there are too many factors to consider, such as mileage, condition, factory accessory packages, etc. You can get some sort of idea by going to a site like edmunds.com
  14. Thanx 1990LS, and a Merry Christmas to you too.
  15. You my friend are the most irritating poster on this site with your hypothetical reasons on many subjects......and in all cases I find you a blowhard that try's to intimidate others by using abbreviations, and unfounded knowledge. A perfect example is the link that you provided for another thread....where other members didn't even understand what the hell you were talking about! :chairshot: Cool it pal!
  16. Climate control systems use many methods to keep the car temperature comfortable. The reason the compressor goes on at lower temperatures is to control the humidy of the air that blows out of the ducts. As an example: If the outside air temperature is 40 degrees with high humidy, and you have the climate control set to 70 degrees, the air blowing into the car will regulate the car to 70 degrees, but the humidty will also be much higher without the compressor running. When you have the climate control set to auto, it constantly regulates the interior air temperature, humidity, air flow speed and direction to give you optimum comfort. Another example: You'll notice that in cold, high humidy conditions, if you use the climate control without the compressor turned on you'll get fog(moisture) on the inside of the windows, even though the temperature is correct. At this point, turn on the compressor, and the fog will disappear. If the outside temperature is cold, and the humidity is low, then you can use this system without the compressor.
  17. I think you have it backwards. A lighter pressure on the accelerator pedal will let the transmission shift to a higher gear at lower RPM's. This is the way ALL automatic transmissions work. :)
  18. I don't know if this helps, but here it is: http://p207.ezboard.com/bchryslersebringco...blemessageboard .....or this: http://www.sebringclub.net/board/
  19. I suppose you mean a place like the Moonshadows Lounge on the PCH? hee hee
  20. Yep, sure do. I live in the county of l.a. but not the city...... Thank's guys for the info, but I've already been to the Petersen Museum a few years ago. I know they keep changing the exhibits, but I'm getting lazy, so I'll just hang out in Brentwood, and watch the pretty cars go by. :)
  21. Steve- Of course you realize, if you buy an Infiniti you have to give up your position as Manager of LOC. LOL :)
  22. I really liked the Bentley Sportcar the best, mainly because of the super quality of the interior(leather, wood trim), plus the glass like feel of the paint job. Like I said in another post, there were very few cars that had as good a paint job, and Lexus was one of them. BTW: I noticed that you're located in LA. I'm going to be in Santa Monica this Friday and I was wondering whether you know of any auto shows around? I'll be there until December 3rd.
  23. Here's some pictures I took last Saturday at the Arizona International Auto Show.
  24. Ah Ha..........Your engine computer is showing signs of Alzheimers. LOL
  25. Last Saturday I went to the Arizona International Auto Show in Phoenix and one of the cars that impressed me was the Infiniti M's. I sat in it, played with the controls, kicked the tires, and mainly compared the interior size to the ES350. I still feel I get a more spacious, luxurious feeling in the ES..........but I'm predjudiced. LOL Tomorrow I'm driving from Scottsdale, AZ to Palm Springs, CA and than up to Santa Monica, CA. where I'll be able to test drive my cousins '08 M45 which he just took delivery. I'll report back and tell you my findings........including some pictures. BTW: I rented a Toyota Camry SE from Hertz, and I'm using my 'Garmin Nuvi 350' GPS. I gotta tell you, I like the Garmin better than the unit in my Lexus because it's easier to program, and mainly it also announces the name of the street, highway, etc. instead of announcing just the turns........and it cost me a fraction of the amount that I paid for the NAV in the ES! P.S. At the auto show the best, smoothest paint jobs were on ALL models of Lexus's. Most all other manufacturers offerings had varying degrees of orange peel in the paint........and that included the Infiniti's. Next to the Lexus, the closest quality paint job was on a $250,000 Bentley that was on display! :)
