  1. That's probably a first.......AND LAST! lol I believe sway bar links are also much cheaper on the Mercedes (by a factor of 10).
  2. Hey! I resemble that remark! I have an early first gen in burgundy with the matching red interior. Even my kids comment "What the hell were they thinking?" glenmore 1990 LS400 1991 300CE 2000 C280 Could you share some pics of the interior? Is it an LS400 Type R?
  3. That Burgundy you have looks great! It's much better than those dirty white Camry-esque colored ones. :D :D
  4. Please take the poll! A lot of people seem to use only genuine Toyota parts on their Lexus cars. What say you?
  5. It's all relative, though. What kind of car are you driving now? When I drove a Miata, going on a road trip with the Accord was a big treat! But now that I have the LS400, the Accord seems like a noisy crude piece of junk. :)
  6. I'd probably go ahead and used Lexol pH Balanced Leather Cleaner. It's available at most auto parts stores.
  7. I have experienced this with other RWD cars, but not the Lexus. It is usually the motor mounts/transmission mounts allowing the engine to shift positions a lot and causing a lot of play, which results in bucking. It's usually most noticeable when getting on and off the gas. Maybe not so much when shifting (at least in a car with an automatic transmission) because there is not as much of a cutoff in engine power/drivetrain load.
  8. Are you going for the world record or something?
  9. Haven't driven a 2009 Camcord, but I have driven a 2005 Accord V6 EX extensively (when it was brand new). There is really just no comparison. My '97 LS400 with 95k miles on it redefined my definition of refinement. The Camry/Accord, while not much fun to drive, will still probably be light years more fun to drive than the LS400. The LS400 is a great car to get you home in comfort after a long day's work, but it rarely puts a smile on my face by the way it makes me feel when I drive it. The LS400 is not immune to the increased maintenance costs of an older used car, although it is probably considerably better than most. Good luck!
  10. I don't think it looks that bad.
  11. While you have that all removed, take some Invisible Glass and clean it right up!
  12. I just got my car and did my first oil change with Mobil1 Synthetic. I plan on using the 7500 mile interval. I'm not sure if there is a special procedure when switching over to synthetic. I doubt it matters. Aren't there even some oils that are "synthetic blends"? (Like part dino part synthetic?) You'll find a lot of hocus pocus on the internet when it comes to synthetic oil.
  13. You know the car can be restarted in neutral, right? [EDIT]I'm an idiot. You already said you start it in neutral.
  14. Actually, the reason I tried the sanding block was because I was in the middle of doing some cheap "Mexican" style bodywork for my parents' minivan.
  15. you have a total weight capacity. take the sum of the passengers weight, and subtract it from the total cap. That is most you can carry in the car... My son took a voltage converter with him on a trip. Blew a few fuses, and burned a wire off the plug wire in the lighter socket where it was pluged. Tire pressure should be posted on the door post on the driver side. A few extra pounds would be on with extra weight. Do remember to check the air in spare and make sure it is same as the others... (This is for newer cars with pressure sensors.),, Low pressure would cause the tires to overheat. I'm more worried about volume! But I guess I will just have to test it out myself when it warms up!
  16. 92LS99, I have found the link. http://search.ebscohost.com/Community.aspx...9E321E336133503 Go there, and then navigate to the appropriate vehicle. There is a bit of information there that should get you started. By the way, "strut rods" in this case are not the same thing as shocks/struts. Here is a slideshow showing exactly what the part is and how to replace it: http://photoshow.comcast.net/watch/Fj9WH6CM
  17. There is a database online that has free stuff. Let me see if I can find the link.
  18. Athough much less likely, are you confident of your wheel balance? Typically you see the problem come up at 62, 72, 82, etc., but once in a while, a weight comes off, and the problem seems to be worse at one particular speed. It would be cheaper to check this first, but as I said, it's much less likely IMHO than a problem with the struts or geometry. Just covering all the bases. ;) Absolutely. Although it's likely that his strut rod bushings are bad, it would be silly not to balance the wheels first.
  19. I disagree. The max pressure is the tire's maximum pressure...or the most pressure that particular tire can hold before it may fail. I don't know about you, but I don't want my tires aired up to the maximum they can be aired to safely. The max pressure is just that, a maximum. I tend to agree with you. I don't mind bumping up the air pressure by 2-3 psi, though. (32-33psi.) Anybody know approximately how many full size suitcases will fit in the trunk of the LS? I'd go out and measure but it's too darn cold here. It's gonna be 8ºF tonight!
  20. Yes it's a sign of bad cats. I couldn't tell you which one.
  21. SK. Front or rear or all four corners?? I need a manual, Im gonna flip out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The cheapest one I found is $$$150, it's factory though.. Call Carson Toyota. I got 2 for $220-ish shipped. If you are experiencing a lot of vibration on the car when cruising on the highway, and the steering wheel seems to jump out of your hands when you go over moderate to large bumps, replace your strut rods!
  22. At least on the UCF20, I love the stock grill. When you get up close, it has a great looking shape that looks very stately.
  23. Looks like that article needs to be changed. According to the Lexus specs sheets, '90-'94 models are limited at 150mph, and '97-'00 models are limited to 149mph. I wonder what the '90-'94 models are really limited at, because I have seen many YouTube videos of LSs driving at an indicated 155mph.
