  1. I think the "Ultra" would be a winner if you would look at "vincentestsq" post and have the windshield noise problem taken care of under warranty if it has not already been addressed. Hence, I would opt for the "Ultra".
  2. Mine did the same thing and it was the + connector on the battery. It was loose but didn't appear so. I went to Sears as I have a Die Hard, and the mechanics checked it and it was fine. I went home and the same thing. I twisted the connectors and the + was loose. end of problem. Check the tightness of the connectors and if they are tight go to autozone and they will check the battery for free.
  3. I agree with vcv10guy, you may want to use a" little" dwd40 around the edges and let it sit overnight and try again. Proud of your mileage also.
  4. I was refering to the $300 replacement. I understand both should be replaced.
  5. Craig, Sounds like a starved engine......ie: fuel, exaust, ignition, emissions, or fuel injection. I assume you have tried different gas stations as they are notorious for selling regular at premium prices. Once again I would try an additive and do a throtlle body clean out. There are some real engine jockies on this forum that can figure this out if we push the right buttons. Sometimes it takes a "brain !Removed!" to find the answers and we will help you figure it out.
  6. Repalcement drawings should be in the owner's manual, if there is one. That would give him the tools and bulb to take with him. I'm sure someone will help on this forum before long, I can't as mine is a 1990.
  7. Hi Craig, Sorry to hear the news but I would try what Armyofone suggests and get the additive for a couple of tank fills and then see. I also would ask a friend to follow me to a highway and compare 100kmh speed. If your speedo is off that would make a significant difference. That's why they use the wheelie speedo on test runs.
  8. Although the pictures clarify what I asked about.
  9. Great job!!!! The only things that are missing, for me, are the dual exhaust that are new in 04 but were on gen 1 and the ls400 logo was added when? I found it very informative and once again BRAVO and Thanks.
  10. DCFish...I believe you may be correct..but I find myself a little bit concerned by your adament replies...maybe as if you are connected to the LCD company..We at LOC will decide through our own initiatives what will save us money for other things such as PS pumps and the like. Let me, an engineer, decide if there is an alternative to the needle problem and you give it a rest and wish me luck for the rest of us with 15 year old 400's. The short fuse may be behind you. Give it a rest!
  11. Always one for a challenge, I will inspect the needle with a magnifier and see if there is a break in the conductivity and "lightly" spray with conductive paint and give it a go. If it works fine!! I'll post it..If it fails...then.. I will order a new one. worth a try.
  12. Hi Guys and gals :D I believe that my freon is leaking from the evaporator area under the glove box as I put leak detector in and it showed on the garage floor. I have looked for threads and have only come across how agonizing this can be. I have a 1990 with no passenger air bag. Can someone point me to a tutorial on the easiest way to get in there. I consider myself quite adept and DYI, but would like to hear from somebody who has been there. Thanks.
  13. I have noticed, at nite, that when I hit the brakes my lights dim for amoment also. My thought is voltage regulator if there is one. Any Ideas?
  14. Has anybody tried painting the needle backs with "conductive" paint?
  15. It seems to me that the ac does come on in the colder weather to dry the hot air in the vehicle and this cuts down foggy windows.
  16. It seems as if your drain plug for the AC coil is Plugged up. The coil is under the glove box. The drain is behind the right wheel well. If your AC is running you should see condensation dripping to the ground and not to your floor mat.
  17. I have always changed my oil and filters at jiffy lube every 3000 miles. As for the transmission fluid you should buy it at Toyota and take it with you to Jiffy Lube. They have no problem with it here. Same goes for the anti-freeze. They keep records which are handy on re-sale. There are no lube jobs on Lexus I am aware of. $90 is way too much. :)
  18. Not dust off..it is contact cleaner and Radio Shack would know what you are talking about. I is a liquid Spray that cleans electronic contacts which is what points to your dash lights from the gear shift.
  19. I would get some contact cleaner at radio shack and spray down in there. Hope that helps
  20. mine did that and it was a loose battery connector
  21. Type in on (search this forum) "power steering" and you will get a wealth of knowledge.
  22. I agree with the advice of finding a good, reliable mechanic. Ask around and you will find one. Fortunately I can handle most of the repairs myself, but I do have a mechanic for the time consuming and special tool jobs. He doesn't mind when I get the parts myself. If you shop e-bay, Auto zone and Pace in Tampa you will save a bunch. For example the compressor $340, evaporator and drier as quoted by Pace, the price is $199.99 plus shipping for the evaporator. You should also replace the receiver/drier when replacing any A/C component. The price of the receiver/drier is $32.00 plus shipping. The total price for everything should be roughly be $250.00 that includes shipping. Pace Compressors Tampa, FL 813 888-7991 I paid $149 for the power steering pump from auto-zone. So you see the big numbers are not there unless you rely on Lexus service then, Selling it would be your only alternative. Good Luck to you
