  1. just a joke on that last post :chairshot: but should be taken into cosideration. I tried to start my ex-wife on wd 40-30 on cold mornings probably should have tried synthetic and still be married............On second thought "Bad" idea
  2. Hey Daffy, I think you may have a point, Since cold weather killed the Dinosaurs.
  3. At least 90k. Much too young, and low mileage. My 1990 will have a replacement at 90k in about 3 months if that gives you any idea. Your owners manual should be your guide and I don't believe it refers to age, only mileage. If I were you, I would not let that dealer tear down my car. Some people on this forum are well aware of dealer income/bottom line on maintenance and maybe some will chime in.
  4. Since I just figured out how to add pictures...here is my engine bay on the 1990
  5. VH, I sent the picture let me know if you didn't get it. I added it here as well. ps_picture_7.jpg Daffy, Thanks for the info on amsol. I'll definitely do my homework on it. Regards
  6. Sorry guys, I got to the pump and found the return line bolt at the "bottom" of the reservoir was loose. I tightened it and all is well. No more leak.I did take a picture and can e-mail it if you like since I don't have a site to refer it to. Thanks!!
  7. Since I have a lifetime warranty on the pump from a year and a half ago I will replace it rather than the seals. The problem is leakage and serious to the life of my alternator. At the time I was a new member and was not aware of the lower screen. When it started leaking a little bit about a month ago I started looking at the forums and became aware of the flush and cleaning of the lower filter. It made a drastic change in ease of steering and I made a post about it then. I didn't know at the time if the leaking would stop from release of back pressure because of the maintenance or that I had actually blown my seals. Well I guess my seals did not make it and I will change the pump, which is free, and flush again and clean the lower screen again. Daffy, the amsol synthetic oil sounds interesting...........is it a high temperature oil and what is its normal application?
  8. I knew somebody would ask me that!!! :cries: I will do my best, as I know it is a major undertaking for some of us. I did not pull the radiator last time and don't plan to this time as it was not a problem. I won't plan on documenting the flush and lower screen cleaning since those are topics that have been well documented and covered here at LOC, and those are the tutorials that I will use.
  9. A year and a half later my pump goes out again. The replacement had a lifetime warranty.. so no charge from "Autozone" Lucky Me!! I'll change it out tomorrow and will remember to flush it this time. "Stupid me" Live and learn. Great car though :chairshot:
  10. In the "Search Topic" box type in "backlighting" and you should find some answers. Good Luck and Happy New Year.

I, in all my depth of sorrow, I wish to convey to all the suffering people in Asia and around the World my deepest Sympathy and respect in this hour of need and heartfelt tradgedy. I am so saddened by the misery and destruction and the heartfelt sadness in such a tragic time and pray that God, in all our religions, believes we all Love him still. I don't know what else to say....such sorrow, such a wake up call and still we Love you. We all Love one another and the Devil cannot split us. I am not religious, per say, other than I know in my heart of hearts that we are all prone to be bad children of the Almighty in what ever name we choose in our religious affiliation and we get wake up calls and this is certainly one. This is just a personal heartfelt observation and in no means embraces an affiliation with LOC other than to say from a member of LOC I feel your loss. Such sorrow!!
  13. Seems like low mileage for those problems but all depends on your road conditions or too many speed bumps. In any case I would try the silicone spray as was on a recent thread on all the ball joints and see if that doesn't quieten things down. It worked for me. But as you are in Hawaii, cold weather stiffness should not be a problem. But shimmy and shake point to a more serious problem. I'm sure when you do the rotors you will be in a better position to assess the problem. Good luck and let us know what you find.
  14. Thanks Monarch...Excellent pictures.. what a help. thanks again.
  15. Hey Monarch, Can the reservoir be pulled without pulling the Pump?
  16. Therein lies the confusion mine is horizontal on my 1990 LS.CCW is the rule "Lefty loosey righty tightie".
  17. From top to bottom: 1.That is the tab 2.That piece does pull out..and the big one has to be pullled out afterwards with a twist and a pull. 3.Channel locks in the middle 4.Rotate CCW .. the confusion lies in that the solenoid is "horizontal" to the undercarriage so CCW is "Down" The picture shows it vertical as the camera is turned.
  18. Hey VGR, Very simply, remove the wires by pressing on the lock and pulling the cable out. Then twist the main cable and pull it out of the socket. My 1990 had this and it wasn't in the tutorials. But give it a 90 degree twist and pull it out. Scribe the position of the solenoid and body attachment. Take a pair of Channel Lock pliers and pull down on the solenoid and it should loosen. Pull down and pull down at least twenty times <_< until the solenoid comes out. A mess will happen and fluid will come out. About a half a quart, Catch it for mother earth. Take the solenoid to your workbench and clean the little screens around the end with a toothbrush and brake cleaning fluid, sparingly mind you, as it is a foreign agent. Replace the solenoid and wires. Put fresh fluid in the reservoir or flush as recommended. Hope this helps, And some guys will jump in and discuss the flush, which is very important
  19. It is the same as an oil filter, many fine threads and I used adjustable channel lock pliers to remove it. Lots of help here for "power steering solenoid" in the forum section, pictures and all, or else I would have taken them. When you pull out the solenoid, On the end are the filters which will be hard to detect because they may be obscured due to filth as mine were. I am not familiar with how to pull down these tutorials but, I am sure someone will as they are a fine group of guys.
  20. Seems like a lot of people are having power steering problems. When it got cold last year my pump started screaming until the engine warmed up. I replaced it myself and all was fine. Well, this year it got cold and it started leaking and I kept having to put fluid in every third day to stop the howling and stiffness. I have been following the threads and realized I hadn't cleaned the solenoid screen. Today I followed the advice given and pulled it and cleaned it. Then I flushed it. What!!! a difference..I've had this car going on three years and didn't know the steering was so effortless. I thought it was the old road feel stiffness German type i.e. Hard at low speed and easy at highway speed. I highly suggest as others, that this simple procedure be done ASAP if you are having any problems. I just hope my new pump survived it and it wont have to be replaced. I'll let you know in a few days it the pump quits leaking. But what a difference.
  21. I Sure do wish all of you A Merry Holiday and a safe one too. It is 28 degrees here with sleet and flurries...cold, by our standards in Louisiana but a good excuse for Gumbo. I'm sure you guys up north are bundled up. Anyway, I want to thank you all for being so forthright in helping fellow LS owners with our "Quirks" and I find you all to be a great bunch of guys and gals. No matter what religion or ethinicity I wish you all safe and happy these Holidays and great prosperity in the coming year.
  22. Could be the starter solenoid relay which is, I believe, on passenger side under hood toward the front. That's where you would hear the click of the relay. Loose or corroded battery cables can give the same indications..enough juice for lights but not enough for the starter. But you should hear the relay click. the relay location should be in the owners manual.Sometimes a good whack will clear the carbon and get you started. Sometimes :chairshot:
  23. Depending on mileage and Insurance company it could go either way. It appears as if you were hit front and the light runner spun to the rear. That would indicate some major damage to the front end but missed the suspension. That is a good thing! Beautiful car, I hope everyone is unhurt and it works out for you either way. Sorry to see that, but things "eventually" even out.
  24. Hey Craig, Just had to give it a go tonight and my 1990 "screamed" compared to your ,"video capture", in 8.2 seconds. I chance we are all breaking the law to help you out. Just keep on trying as we all feel for you!! Much faster through all gears.
