  1. Since the first day of my summer wheels I learned this. My summer wheels have totally different lugs than the OEM. I keep a full set of lugs for the OEM spare and the lug key in a box in a gym bag with a set of jumper cables, safety flares, a flashlight, a blanket and the first aid kit. this is good advice best NOT learned by experience. steviej
  2. not yet
  3. watch your oil consumption over the next 1000 miles not the next few days. If you have to add a quart in that 1000 miles, that is a little excessive. as for your filter, not any good quality filter will surfice. you might want to try a heavier oil, like a 10w-30 if you are running 5w-30 right now. This is totally acceptable too and might help any minor burning if present. steviej
  4. I fix for you. :D (I mean I will move the thread, not fix your scratch.) sj
  5. I'll be there. Hopefully the 05 tails will be on by then and the roof spoiler will have been reworked so that it fits. This will be fun, as I have never been to Toronto before. steviej
  6. your 2000 ES is an "interference" engine meaning that damage could/will occur the timing belt break while the engine is running. keep in mind, that the maintanence schedule is suggested by the manufacturer, you are free to perform any of these services when you see fit. You can pay them now or you can pay them later. :whistles: Personally I would shop around and find the best price. When my 02 hits 90k I will go for broke and do the water pump, pulleys, tensioner, thermostat, seals and TB. I have got a good inde up here who is lexus and toyota certified. Check out Toyota service centers as well as independents and Lexus. Shop around, this is a steep one. steviej
  7. exactly how much oil are your burning? In other words, are you having to top off your dipstick (add a quart) every 1000 miles, every 5000 miles, etc. steviej
  8. are you claiming on your insurance or paying out of pocket? the headlight (less bulbs) can be had on ebay for less than $100 and the same shells will house either HID or H7 bulbs from what I am told. SW is absolutely right about the millenium silver. They will need to blend into the fender and bumper. If you want it to look right then do it right, leave it to the professionals. You might want to ask (especially if paying out of pocket) if they will allow you to provide some of the parts. steviej
  9. Cohasset Collison Center, Rt. 3A Cohasset. They did all the work after I was swiped by a drunk in 2004. Awesome work, deal predominately with high end vehicles. Virta's Garage, Rt. 53 Norwell. They did the work when I was side swiped at a red light in 2003. Small shop but extremely good work with much attention to detail. steviej
  10. why replace it? just take it to a good body shop. where are you in MA? I can give you names of several shops on the South Shore. steviej
  11. go to Autozone or Pepboys and have the codes read for free. Then post them here and we will better tell you what is going on. steviej
  12. I think the question was why are there two different part numbers listed for the rear, not why is there a different part number for the rear. steviej
  13. yes!, dispose of the old coolant safely and properly. Don't flush it down the storm drain! the "pink" super long life stuff I believe comes in a premix 60/40 mixture but the "red" long life coolant is undiluted. do a search, as within the last six months, someone posted proper instructions for refilling an ES coolant system. It is not as straight forward as just pouring the new stuff in. The ES system traps air bubbles easily. steviej
  14. sedan
  15. crazyhorse, 1. contact www.lextech.org and see about pricing to fix your current dash. 2. do a search on "cup holder" as I believe another member has already posted instructions. 3. my 2002 cover has 4 allen screws in the front. I don't know what the 96 has. A torque head #30 if I remember correctly worked. An allen wrench should work also. Then is just unclips with a tug. IFixEm post excellent instructions for replacing the plugs on an ES about a week ago. Search on spark plugs and exact name of member (using his screen name) and you should be able to find it. steviej
  16. johnatthebar, Here is a tutorial I did for the 2002 ES tranny with pictures. click here. steviej
  17. Actually, I have read a few recent reports from Canada about the new Camry (3.3L V6 with electronic auto tranny) up there having the same hesitation complaints that the US ES 300 has been plagued with for the last several years. on a side note, your take/explanantion is superb. steviej
  18. this same thing happened on another members car. It turned out that his battery was getting low (the one under the hood, not in the key). As odd as it may seem, when the battery starts to die, weird electronic things start to malfunction. Go to the nearest Autozone and have them load test the battery. If you have had the battery for over 4 years, you might want to think about replacement anyways. As this other member did, once he replaced it, the lock problems went away. steviej
  19. check you receipt and let me know if they changed your spark plugs or PCV valve? I am curious. steviej
  20. yeah, they are Toyota/Lexus OEM parts from a large Lexus dealership in PA. They do a nice online distribution job too. I have used them in the past with no problems and their prices are as good as any online Lexus parts dealer. another site is www.lexus-parts.com and www.newlexusparts.com I haven't a clue why the two item numbers for the rear. You would have to call or email irontoad.com for a good answer. steviej
  21. barkat, what would happen if you left it plugged in and just removed the DRL fuse. Would you get a "bulb out" light on the dashboard? steviej
  22. Alan, the "going 40" problem is the tranny hunting. Tranny logic has shifted the car into 5th gear (OD) but other factors make the car think it should be in 4th. The car sets up a little vibration or joggle. It is annoying but either letting off on the gas or applying more gas smooths things right out. Another option is sliding the shift lever over to 4th thus eliminating the ability of 5th gear alltogether. Once you get to a spot in the spot that speed above 40mph is maintainable then slide the shift back to D. sonewsy, SW03ES is trying to say that the 2002-2003 ES's had this as part of the overall tranny complaint that the Aug 03 TSB was supposed to fix. At some point in 2003 all subsequent ES's were then shipped with the flashed ECU so that the factory programming of the ECU was that of the TSB. This would eliminate the "going 40" phenomenon from late 2003 to current ES vehicles. does that make sence? steviej
  23. if you are not likely to do the work yourself and have an independent that will allow you to bring in your own parts, then get the parts online. here are the prices from irontoad.com BRAKE PADS Front 0446533121 $34.94 Rear 0446632010 $35.64 Rear 0446632050 $34.94 DISC ROTOR Rear 4243133010 $79.30 Front 4351233041 $73.47 Rear 42431-33060 $78.81 steviej
