  1. when you get quotes for $1200 and $1600 for timing belts, make sure the dealer specifies what they are doing or make sure you specifiy what you specifically want done. They may be giving you the quote for the 90k service which includes timing belt replacement in most dealerships. So you may be getting the whole shabbang for the high price. steviej
  2. I am sure that when you are ready to sell them you will carefully read the rules and guidelines about posting items for sale on this website. :whistles: steviej ES/IS Forum Moderator.

  4. I would be most happy to Ray. 2002 Tranny maint. thread this will work for your 2003 too. steviej
  5. Luccetti's on Rt 139 in Marshfield. excellent prices and serives. Sullivan Bros AutoMall of Rt 3 in Kingston (Toyota dealer but Lexus certified). I am very satisfied with Lexus of Norwood, but I have also developed a good repore with them. steviej
  6. no way!!!! I hate doing that crap. The underside is cleaned by the LaserWash 4000 and the topside is cleaned by my detailer every 4 months and every 2 weeks by the LaserWash 4000. on a sunny saturday you won't find me washing a car...I'm zooming away on my zuki. steviej
  7. The tranny plug is the drain plug for the transmission fluid. This is even easier than doing and oil and filter change. I do a drain and fill every 15k miles. Look in the tutorial section for the thread I post on this. It's on page two in that section. thanks, not bad for for 45,000 miles at the time of that picture. steviej
  8. I knew that was coming. :whistles: Mindy
  9. I like the one vcv10guy linked up. smaller/subtle yet much more distinctive. steviej
  10. I think this will help. the oil drain plug is a 14mm I think. The filter is the PITA to change. wear a long sleeve shirt--trust me. steviej
  11. I am not surprised. The charcol canister is known to give out. lexusk8, member here, had this same problem. You dealer should give you a break but they probably won't go the whole route for covering the cost. As it is part of the emissions it is not considered part of the powertrain. CEL (check engine light) + TRAC OFF light = the car is in safety mode. The ECU will limit the cars functions to run in a reserved state until the offending malfunciton is rectified. I always say this....you never know what the problem is or could be until you get the codes read and post the exact codes to find out. There are hundreds of codes and code combinations that will trigger the CEL light inaddtion to other reminder lights (TRAC OFFm VSC, Battery, Oil pressure, Oil level, etc). Lastly, I think you will find the original warranty is up 4 years from the initial registration date of the car or 50,000 miles --> whichever comes first. steviej
  12. It is a 7440 (same as mine) but I don't know if it is an amber or clear bulb. all you bulb numbers are HERE steviej
  13. have a shop check them for balance and run off. They will be able to tell if they are bent. however, your comment about being sure to bring cash.....walk away from this deal right now. If you do decide to go through with it, insist on a money order or bank check. That way you have a way to retrieve your funds should they turn out to be crap. Get everything in writing and agree on a "not satisfied buy back agreement". If he won't go for it, do take the deal. steviej
  14. A major blowout is happening at Floyd Bennet Field on May 15th. It is a ClubLexus event in conjuction with MB and BMW. Read Here I apologize, I haven't hyped it on LOC simply because I will not be there. That is not very fair to the Northeast membership on LOC. Sometimes I'm not much, but I am all I think about. Sorry, I will do better in the future about alerting the Northeast to upcoming car meets. steviej
  15. I take it the car was originally registered before March 30, 2001. If not then the original 4 year/50k mile warranty should be in effect. If so then any Lexus dealership should cover it. Was it a Lexus dealership that you purchased from? If so, is the car a CPO. If it is, then the CPO 3yr/100k warranty should cover it. If not a Lexus dealer, what kind of warranty did you get. You should have at least gotten a 30 day one. Either way, go to Autozone, they will read the codes for free. post them up here and we can better help you. steviej
  16. I got them on www.stealthauto.com Talk to Todd if you have any questions. I bought three sets thinking if one blows or they are premature in their lifespan. Then i read the back of the package and they are guaranteed for life with free replacements. They are not as bright as stock but they are definately noticable. Since posting, i have also seen bulbs by APC called "Titaniums" that come in a 7440 config. The fronts were as easy to install as the rears. It is a tight squeeze to get your hand at the one by the battery, but very easy. So, if you want the third set I got, we can talk. steviej
  17. My rear turn signals always reminded me of a fried egg. Many turn signal today are amber bulbs hidden in a reflective dish behind a small silver barrier so you can't see the amber bulb. The 02-04 ES was not so fortunate. We get these honker amber bulbs glarring at everyone. Sylvania makes a bulb called "Silvervision" but not in our format. PIAA just came out with the "Mirror Orange" bulb in our format but that still has an orange/amber sheen to it. I even tried to replicate the Silvervision bulb in my garage, but that was not great. Recently I found a silver coated bulb in the 7440 format. I installed them today and here are some pictures. STOCK BULBS STEALTH BULBS They flash well enough to be seen in the sunlight but not as bright as stock, but that was expected. However, the car looks really streamlined now. Not a bad alternative to the failed 05 taillight transplant. Between installing them and the StopTech stainless steel brake lines, I had a productive day off. steviej
  18. I'll be 41 in two weeks, but mentally I am still 21 or so. steviej
  19. If they are so cheap then what is wrong with them? I wouldn't buy until a professional shop tests them to see if any are bent or damaged. steviej
  20. If the dealer performed a TSB on the vehicle it should be in the computer database. If you are not under warranty, then it is an issue you have to take up with the dealership. Some may honor it, some may meet you half way on the price in good measure and some may say too bad, you gotta pay. You never know until you ask. If under warranty, original or CPO, they are covered. sorry Alan, I didn't read the brochure, let alone even have one. :( I got the DVD though. steviej
  21. try here other places are www.irontoad.com www.newlexusparts.com and browse the Buy & Sell forum on this site. You might find a member selling some. steviej
