  1. then maybe that is it. I do notice that where I have no XM (assuming it was trees) I also have one (two max) bars of reception if any signal at all on my cell phone. I guess AT&T hasn't got all of their 5 bars on the coast. steviej
  2. the whole story of the car dying is familiar. It will go away in about 24 hours as the ECU relearns all the MAF, O2, A/F ratios, etc. It happened to me everytime I disconnected the battery. Just drive the car, but be ready to keep you foot on the gas when you come to a stop. I would through it in N and keep the RPMs up a little to keep from dying. Because power was cut to the ECU the programming returns to factory default. However, in a 2002 ES the parts are not what they were from the factory. There is carbon build up on the idle air control body, throttle body, the A/F sensors are not brand new. The car is learning and it takes a little to come back. as for the original problem. there are 100s of combination of trouble codes that could be the culprit. We can't help if you don't post the code(s). The codes stay in a memory and should still be there even though the power to the ECU was cut. Autozone will read them for free. post them up when you get them. most likely since the car ran fine, it will be an 02 sensor or A/F sensor that was sensitive. Did you use carberator cleaner/ fuel system cleaner or specifically "fuel injector cleaner"? steviej
  3. don't put it on trip B, it should be on total mileage. hold down the trip mileage RESET button, don't step on the brake, press the start button while continuing to hold down the RESET button. Hold until you see the message OIL MAINT RESET. steviej
  4. I have XM and it sounds the same as a CD. It sounds much better than FM. I too have the black square on the trunk lid. My only complaint with satellite radio is when it is stormy, cloudy or I have a tree branch canopy over the road..........reception is impaired. steviej
  5. Thanks for the reply. It will shift out of P but when the Shift lever is in the "D" position the LCD will display "4". Also noticed that driving at highway speeds the rpms are higher than it normally would be. I think I'm going to take it to a family friend who's mechanic tomorrow to see what the error might be; hopefully I don't need an entirely new shifter. I realized that my initial post was a little incoherent because I was not to pleased by the response "coincidence" I got from my dealership. Car isn't under warranty or CPO and has about 90k. if you shift it to the "4" position does the LCD stop flashing? The higher rpm suggests that it is not shifting into overdrive (5th gear). have the codes read....Autozone will do it for free. steviej
  6. I was actually quite fond of my ES. I haven't driven an ES350 so I can't comment there. In response to the original gripe: I will suppose that you could say the same thing for any car manufacturer when you compare a higher level sedan with a lower lever. For example, I am sure a BMW 7 or 5 series is going to feel different and probably more refined than a 3 or 1 series. Same goes for the Infinity Mx versus the Gx, or the Acura RL vs the TL. What about the MB E class or S class vs a C class . steviej
  7. the ecu with part number 89666-30361 is for the AWD model. the ecu with part number 89666-30351 is for the RWD model. steviej
  8. you confused me a little. If it won't shift in to drive, how did you get it out of the dealership? Or did this occur after you got it home? Are you able to shift out of "P"?, if not then that may just be the brake lock switch. Can you shift into "R" or "4"? Is the warranty up, or is it a CPO? Is the dealership covering the cost of the new shifter? steviej
  9. Danny, where abouts are you in the Baystate? I know a couple of good inde's if you don't want to go to a dealership. P1130 and P1135 point to A/F sensor Bank 1 Sensor 1. This is the hardest to get to if you don't have a lift or floor jack and stands. It is the one before the cat on the set of cylinders closest to the windshield. How good are you with a wrench? The Denso sensor can be had on line for about $200 or a little more than that from a Toyota dealership, or a little more than that from a Lexus stearlership. steviej
  10. here are a few pics that I snapped when I got home tonight. First sun since Friday. I installed the CarsonTuned roof spoiler as well. steviej
  11. definately all four while you are at it. If you don't the unpainted rears will stick out like a sore thumb and they you will kick yourself for not doing it. If you are going to do it, do it all the way or don't do it at all. steviej
  12. only when the bass on the stereo is turned up. steviej
  13. try this website. it has a pretty good wheel fit calculator and will tell you if you will be close to brake/suspension system or fenders. plug in your current size into wheel 1 and the size you want to go to into wheel 2. Wheels Master steviej
  14. sounds about right. chalk it up to normal wear and tear. steviej
  15. Lexus had to do the install, at least the first time, it is the only way the second set of TPMS sensors would get programmed. steviej
  16. Its 8am on a saturday morning and here I sit patiently awaiting the balancing and mounting of my graphite G-Spyder wheels. Thank god for free cappacino, bagels and cream cheese. I'm bored.......can you tel. Pictures to follow later today. steviej
  17. how many miles on the car and what were the stored trouble codes that initially set off the TRAC and CEL lights? keep in mind, the coil pack is an electronic device that in time will need to be replaced. Depending on the model year, you have three or six coil packs. If one goes then you can be sure that the others most likely will follow suit. If they are the three up front, then they are an easy repair for any shade tree mechanic. . . .thus saving you the Lexus hourly repair rate. Depending on who you talk to, most repair technicians will tell you to replace them between 100 and 120k miles. Think of older model cars with spark plug wires, those wires of yesturday are similar to the coil packs, eventually they break down as well and need replacing. What causes it? most commonly is age. steviej
  18. one simple way to find out. Drive till little light comes on, fill it up, subtract the amount pumped from you total tank volume = answer to you question. on my 2002 ES it was about 2 gallons. steviej
  19. as can OEM glass, hence the TSB on the 2006 GS. steviej
  20. I disagree, because I have seen it happen. Maybe not Lexus "corporate" but Lexus "salespeople" will tell customers that they can use regular unleaded to make the sale. Most people buying cars don't frequent these types of forums so they are not privy to these types of conversations. Many consumers don't go into the physics of octane rating, they just know that if the book says you got to use premium and premium gas is 20¢ to 40¢ more expensive per gallon, then they may tend towards a high end vehicle that does not "recommend" premium. Now, if the salesman says, "you can use regular if you have to, the engine will compensate" then the sale is most always made. As for "Lexus recommended brand oil"..........DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON THIS TOPIC AS IT IS A BEATEN HORSE. use the search function and look for a member named "monarch". DON"T GO THERE!!!! Tranny fluid is a different story, I agree there, use Toyota T-IV or WS if it calls for it. steviej
  21. Interesting, I found the Exalto's to be superb on my ES200, especially in the winter light snow, rain and dry pavement.
  22. on #1, you can't control that. That song title, message data etc is in the RDS and is sent along the airwaves by the radio station. Some stations subscribe to it, others do not. There is a round about way to remove the preset number. program all your buttons to a station you don't use, then dial in the station you want. The station ID will show but not the preset button number because you didn't use the preset. Kinda defeats having buttons. on #2, I don't think you delete. I think the memory is simple FIFO (first in first out) once it hits its maximum messages. steviej
  23. I do and it works fine. I know the diffence between a tank full of regular and a tank full of premium (figured on 15.5 gallons) is less than $5.00. So I have one less Grande double expresso mocha latte frappachino this week. On the other hand, I just hate giving the ever so "boasting a profit" oil companies any more money than I have to. steviej PS. the owners manual does NOT say you CANNOT use regular.
  24. I painted the calipers then when they dried at least 24 hours, I put on the caliper stickers. They are from this site: LOC stickers, got them from Steve. steviej
