  1. there is no reset other than replacing the bulb that is out. If the indicator light is always on, then it is a tail light or signal light that is out. If the indicator light only comes on when you step on the brake, then it is one of several brake light bulbs. steviej
  2. you would need a power flush machine....which the dealership uses. This is not always a good idea if the tranny has never been power flushed before or it has been a long long time since it has had any service before. In that case, then it would be safer to do successive "drain and fills" over a period of several thousand miles. Drain 3-4 quarts, add same volume new, drive 500 miles, repeat, repeat, repeat. It won't do a total exchange transfusion but it will gradually replace old with newer. Because it is a simple drain and fill, there is no force behind the fluid entering or exiting the tranny which has been known to damage older trannies by dislodging built up sediment. steviej
  3. If you can get a set of Michelin Pilot Exaltos A/S then go for it. I little less expensive than the Primacy's but maybe not as quiet. Great traction in light snow and heavy rain. steviej
  4. you absolutely do not have to have the Lexus dealership mount and balance any tires and rims you buy. The only thing you have to have the Lexus dealer do is register any tire pressure monitor sensors into your ECU......if your car has that option. The 04 ES did not come with this feature. 20s may make it look like a mud buggy. 19s are about as big as I would go. I put a set of 18s on my 02 ES and they looked classy. As a matter of fact, I just found out that they won't go on my GS so I am about to put them up in the Buy and Sell forum for short money. They will fit the ES perfectly. steviej
  5. have your ECU checked for the version.......it sounds like you have the most recent version. steviej
  6. Hey can someone help me out with new wheels and tires for my 06 GS300 AWD. Currently I have the stock wheels and really want to get a lower profile look without sacrificing too much ride. I live in snow country and will keep the stock wheels to swap out in winter but want a more sporty look for the summer. I have gone into tire shops but because I am a girl I don;t think they take me seriously and don't encourage me to change the wheel size! My color is glacier frost and am thinking about an 18 or 19 X 9 either chrome or anthracite/chrome mix. I have researched a few online tire places but get a little frustrated with offsets and such. Thanks for any advise and/or pics. 18" wheels should be 18x8, have a 5x114.3 bolt pattern with a 45mm offset. Tire size should be 235/45-18 to maintain correct plus sizing. Can't help with the 19s cause I have never looked into them. go to www.tirerack.com, you will get all the info you will need. steviej
  7. sounds like a good deal. steviej PS. I edited your title for you.
  8. If you have to hold the smart fob near the push button to start the car, that usually means the key battery has been discharged. Try replacing the battery and see if the key is then recognized. See owner's manual, page 27. steviej.
  9. do you have to get a second or third job just to fill the tank on that thing? :whistles: best of luck to you and the new wheels. steviej
  10. because the 2005/06 ES came with the most recent tranny reflash as standard programming. However, there are other "quirks" that remain with this tranny. steviej on a side note, the 6 speed tranny in my GS is like night and day compared to my previous 02 ES (even with the reflash).
  11. better yet, here is that section in PDF form 06_GS300_Touch_Screen.pdf
  12. the manual is available online at www.lexus.com. Click on owners, then register yourself as the new owner and set up your vehicle. Then click on Search Owners Manual in the blue section. Then click on the chapter for the Touch Screen. steviej
  13. While you are at it, pick me up a medium vanilla chai at Dunkin Donuts. you owe me one. steviej
  14. Actually, no, not anymore. I said that just after coming back from Autozone which listed a spin on filter K&N oil filter (HP-1002) and Mobil 1 (M1-102)for the 2007 GS350. Since your post I have delved into more research and am finding that that printing in Autozone may infact be very incorrect. Those are infact the filters for the GS430 though. I retract my statement about the filter on the 2007 GS350. Thanks for making me think so late at night. B) I still think it was a bonehead move on the engineers part. Nothing was wrong with the spin ons in the first place. steviej
  15. in my 02 ES, I was getting 22-23 mpg around town and 28-30 in all out highway driving, so your 22 sound about right. as for the mats, check ebay or an online lexus dealer. I use Sewell Online all the time. steviej
  16. I am thinking it is time for a new battery. Even though you load tested fine a few weeks ago, today's batteries will die or drop a cell at a moments notice without any indication before hand. Expected battery life today is only about 5 years, anything beyond that is a gift. Do you know anyone with a portable jump box. If so, hook it up and see if you start right up. (Do you have AAA?, if so, call them, they will jump you with a portable unit.) If you start right up, then it must be your battery. steviej
  17. best tire I ever put on my 02 ES. They were great in rain and pretty decent in snow. Enjoy. steviej
  18. Bren, I looked into visors years ago. My opinion: as long as they don't cover up the chrome trim of the door, then they would look somewhat decent. If they have to tape onto the crhome rail of the door, then it will look totally "add-on" and very cheap. The first one you listed says it installs in the window channel and actually still shows the chrome trim in the picture, so that one I would vote for. However, will it create a draft when the window is closed and will the window now leak since something else is in the window channel? Lastly, the big question is how far out to the side do they protrude. It is fine on a truck but if you get a 2 inch protrusion out from the side of the window you will remind me of my grandmother's Buick. I saw a set for the ES than actually has no protusion, they literally came straight down from the window channel, but I forget where. I do remember they were over $200 too. Too much for my wallet. steviej
  19. This is HUGE, thank you, but where can I get this part ? Any good auto part store maybe ? The link I gave you is to an reputable online Lexus parts dealership. Order it from them. As for putting it on, you have to look at the current hinge and see how to take it off. I think it is simply two allen screws, at least it was on my 02 ES if I remember correctly. steviej
  20. I may just do the picture thing. I would guess they went back to the spin on filter because all the service techs probably hated the cartridge type filter change or a bad publicity from the DIYers. steviej
  21. I have closed this thread becasue it is a duplication of a post made in the pinned 02-06 ES tranny thread. Here is the link for continuation of this discussion. steviej
  22. get the ECU relash that came out in April of 05. That is the only thing they offer. I personally found the reprogramming on my 02 ES was better than the original programming but still has some quirks. They are not going to offer you much more than that. Now if your ECU has already been reflashed make sure it was with most current verison. If memory serves correctly I think the TSB was number TC003-04R. The R stands for revised. The original TSB that come out in 2003/4 was not good at all. The revised programming was a major improvement, but not a total solution. steviej
  23. I know, I know. I go through that scenario everytime I pull up to fill up. It is more of a prinicple thing. I hate giving the oil companies any more money than I have to. steviej
  24. How much do you want to spend? Sylvania Ultras are a decent bulb. They run about $50/pair. If you want to go more, then look into PIAA's Xtreme White bulbs. As for the yellow fogs, I always used the PIAA Ion Crystals. steviej
  25. as for the idle problem: it sounds as if a good throttle body cleaning and idle air control valve cleaning (or replacement) is needed. Common problem for an 11 year old vehicle. steviej
