Just when you fill up, fill up at a pump to the point where the pump shuts off the first time. Then drive it almost gone. Then return to that same pump and fill it up just as before. here is the deal. If you DO NOT have navigation AND the Screen Setting is set ON for Automatic transition from Audio/Air conditioner to navigation then it will go to a blank screen after about 20 seconds of not touching the audio screen or the climate screen. If we had navi, then it would go back to the navi display. Since you don't have navi, then it goes to a blank screen. If you set the Screen Setting to OFF for this selection, then the audio or climate screen will stay on indefinately. You, however, can make it go blank by one of two ways. 1. Press the associated screen button located on the bezel. This button now becomes a toggle on/off switch for the screen display. 2. When the screen is on, press the DISP button on the bezel, then touch the SCREEN OFF button on the display. When you press the climate or audio button on the bezel, then that screen will appear. steviej

gentleman, keep in mind this is not the range until empty. It is the range until you reach the built in reserve. Your emtpy light will come on when there is about 20 miles left on the "range". This light is a warning that you need to put fuel in the tank. The tank actually has about 1.5 to 2.5 gallons of gas left in it. If you are calculating your mpg based on your tank volume of 18.5 gallons then your calculation is wrong and going to be lower than actual. steviej

Dave, you still have not answered my question. You have to drain the oil from TWO places, so here is a quick procedure. First: There is a plug in the bottom of the oil pan, that must come out and over 6 qts or oil will drain into your collection pan. This takes a 14mm or 17mm socket to remove it (I forgot which at the moment). Be sure to reinstall the plug with a new crush washer before putting in the new oil. The old crush washer can be reused successfully a couple of times if you don't have a new one. Second: You should drain the oil from the oil cartridge cannister before dropping the cannister to replace the actual cartridge. Use a socket on the small molded nut at the end of the cannister. Remove the end cap and discard the old O-ring. Toyota and aftermarket filters come with new O-rings. There is a plastic hose adapter that comes with the new fitler. Attach a short length of old garden hose to it and then shove the other end of the plastic adapter into the now open recepticle at the bottom of the oil filter cannister. There is a spring loaded valve that this plastic spout pushes open. The small quantitiy of oil in remaining in the cannister will now drain out. Once this is done, just push the plastic spout to the side. It will snap and break, thus falling out of the hole. Put the new O-ring on the end cap and screw it back in, tighten with socker. Be careful, not too tight as this cannister is alluminum and very soft. You can strip it easily. Now using the proper size cap wrench a strap wrench, remove the larger section of cannister and discard the larger O-ring. Remove the old filter, place in the new one, remove the old large O-ring and put on the new one. Screw the cannister back into the housing. I hope that answers your question. steviej

are you talking about the drain plug in the oil pan? If so, a 14mm socket on a breaker bar works best. if you are talking about the plastic drain thingy that you insert into the bottom of the oil filter canister, you push it to the side until it snaps. It will then fall off in two pieces. You get a new thingy with the new filter cartridge. steviej

have you called around to your local salvage yards, check the yellow pages, you may have to pull them yourself though, but much cheaper that way. steviej

The 2006 GS Showroom brochure lists "Bluetooth Technology" as a standard feature. I don't have the ML sound system and my phone works great with it. The Owner's Manual gives instruction for the touch screen (regardless of the sound system you have). So I would say that they all have it. steviej

I like them very much. Very smooth and quiet. Haven't had any substantial rain to try them in and they won't be on for the snow. Dry traction is awesome. They are a 245 so it takes some getting used to. At this width, the steering is influenced by every curvature and imperfection of the horrible New England roads. More pictures are forthcoming as soon as I remount the roof spoiler. The sticky tape that came with it didn't hold. I should have it back on this Sunday. steviej

I don't intend this to sound sarcastic, but have you read your owners manual? When the CEL and the TRAC light are on together, that is the ECU telling you that the car is in "safe mode". Now any number of trouble codes will set off this warning illumination. It could be anything as simple as the gas cap not being screwed on properly to something more involved like an emissions sensor detecting to much or too little fuel in the exhuast. The easiest thing to do is to stop by your local AutoZone and ask them to pull the trouble code(s). Write them down and then post them up here. We can't help you until we know what trouble codes are being triggered. steviej

Lexus will only program Lexus brand TPMS sensors. I know that Lexus sensors are made by Pacific. (TireRack doesn't sell these). You can get the sensors at Lexus or from an online Lexus dealer (~$106 each + ~$6 for each required fitment kit) , have them program the sensors into the car (~$100) and then mount them in the rim of your choice. Don't buy wheels and tires prebalanced as they will only have to be remounted and balanced after the sensors are installed. steviej

none. The DRL uses the high beam bulb at about 50% power. Any bulb you put in there will look yellower than at full brightness. steviej

It may not be your struts! If the tire you put on the car is wider than a 225 then the outside of the tire is hitting the inside lip of the fender. Go out and look at the outside wall of the tire close to where the tread meets the sidewall. I will bet you a buck you will see what look like very shallow cuts into the side wall of the tire. This is from the inside edge of the fender flare hitting the sidewall. Happened to me when I put 18 wheels with a 235 tire on them. Additionally, If your offset is not quite right on the RX rims, that may have pushed your sidewall further out too, thus increaseing the chance of you hitting the inside edge of the fender. Easiest way to prove it is the tires besides looking at the sidewalls, is to put your stock 16" set up back on the rear wheels and go hit the same bumps. If it doesn't make noise it wasn't the struts. If it does then look into the struts or strut mounts. Post up your findings. steviej

Interesting. I called two Lexus dealers, the first told me about $200/manual, for a 2006 GS manual (and there are about 4 volumes). I then called another dealer who told me that there are about 3 volumes, and that it would be about $200 for the whole set. Can anyone throw some light on what the difference could be? go with what you know in at least the tire brand. In all honesty, you most likely will only feel a difference in your mind from V to H. I went with a set of H rated tires once on my ES and didn't know the difference from the Vs just coming off. Now mind you, I didn't do a controled study and have two sets of the same new tires, 1 H and 1 V, to compare. Inquire from your tire guy; if you are not satisfied with the H rated tires--how long do you have to return them? Most tire dealers give you 30 days. If you don't like it, trade up. steviej PS, I really think you should look at a set of 245/40-18 Michelin Pilot Sports A/S's that would be attached to a 2008 GS350 AWD. :whistles:

given the vibration when you brake and at some speeds without braking, I can most assuredly say your front rotor(s) is/are out of round/warped. Happened to my ES a couple of times. If the rotors have never been cut before, don't replace them. Have them cut/resurfaced. This is cheapest and simplest. If you are replacinc pads for the first time, the rotors may still have plenty of life left in them. They can be cut provided the thickness remaining will still be within specs. steviej

You should report this to the original dealership that told you that the shifter was in need of replacement. Then inform them that you will be taking you business to another dealership. In the same breathe, you need to ask them for the Lexus regional representative's name and phone number (just to make them nervous). steviej
