  1. it should be unless they determine that it rained hard and a window was left open. I am sure that is not what happened, but be prepared, they will ask you. if not the AC drain, a door seal or window seal may be leaking. Another possibility is the drain to the moonroof area is clogged. steviej
  2. 1. the 2002 ES had an annoying rattle/noise caused by improper fitting of the insulation in the rear doors. There is a TSB about that. They either resecure or remove the insulation. Noise gone. 2. The previously mentioned brake pad/rotor metal mismatch TSB from 2003. How many miles on the new ride? If your brakes have already been changed, then my guess is that they won't honor this TSB. 3. The infamous tranny "lag in shifting" TSB. I refer you to the 45 some odd page thread pinned at the top of this subforum. Find out the software verison you have in your car now. Consider upgrading if you exerience the original symptoms. There were two software verisons, the best of the two is the latest one from April 2005. Please read/scan the pinned thread first before asking questions. 4. If the moonroof is noisy in that it creaks when you go over small bumps, have the gasket replaced. There was a TSB on that too. Here is the www.alldata.com list of TSBs: (I have put the ones mentioned in bold) Automotive Recall and Technical Service Bulletin Titles for 2002 Lexus ES 300 V6-3.0L (1MZ-FE). 3. My empty light comes on when my count down range display shows ~20 miles. I then fill the tank it takes anywhere from 15 to 16.5 gallons to fill. Given that display is not the most accurate and that I have an 18.5 gallon tank, I would say that my 02 ES behaves similarly to your ES. you're fine. steviej
  4. I remember doing my rotors. One hole was so badly clogged/rusted that I couldn't thread the bolt in. Used only one bolt and did it slowly. I had that sudden sick feeling in my stomach when I heard the "THUNK". I didn't know weather the bolt broke or the rotor popped off the hub. It was the rotor. steviej
  5. www.lexus.com when you register as a new owner, you can request an owners manual and a supplemental owners manual. The latter has the schedule you are looking for. However, I do believe that the schedules are also downloadable from that website. steviej
  6. and idle air control valve while you are there. steviej
  7. on the 2002 ES, you sit in the back seat facing out the back window and slide the brake light cover towards the passenger side of the car (facing out the back it would be to your left) then the front edge (edge closest to you) of the cover pivots up and the cover can be removed. steviej
  8. I have seen that same technique used with a dollar bill. steviej
  9. do a search on "clear corners" you could also search for a huge thread dealing with "angel eyes". This thread had the whole process to clear the front turn signals. The rear, you may not be so lucky. But the topic has been discussed. steviej
  10. cam, read the 45+ page thread in the pinned section of this forum. steviej
  11. amazing how two $10 bushing can guiet so much noise. A couple of months ago I replaced the rear bushing and the noise was gone. Recently I have noticed the same noise in the front. I will be replacing the front bushings some time this week. An easy to do cheap repair for such a return. steviej
  12. I have had my 02 for almost five years now and it is as quiet as ever. The only wind noise that I ever had was due to a poor sunroof gasket which was replaced a gratus via a TSB from Lexus. steviej
  13. time is the more sensitive factor. The timing belt is made of rubber and rubber will slowly loose its integrity over time. 5 years was the usual norm for most timing belts, however there have been improvements in the quality in recent years. You have a 99 ES which has an "interference" engine. That means in the remote possibility that the timing belt breaks, there will be damage to the engine internals when the valves and pistons come crashing together. Personally, at 8 years, I would seriously consider it rather than wait the next year and a half to reach 90k miles. steviej
  14. yes they will, several have done it, but some wiring has to be modified. search, there have been threads on this subject with more detail. steviej
  15. looks really sharp. As for your ride: you will feel more of the road surface as there is less sidewall to cushion the surface imperfections and vibration generated. The suspension hasn't changed, you just feel more of the road through the floor, steering wheel, foot pedal, your butt, etc. However, you will notice that cornering is schweet and tight. Be careful of the road grates, raised manhole covers, potholes, and general crap in the road. Again, since there is less tire material to act as a cushion, these objects can bend a rim very easily if hit at a substantial speed. As for the vibration at 75-85 mph, it would be wise to have them rebalanced, make sure the shop uses a Hunter Road Force machine. Also, you might want to look into a 4 wheel alignment if you haven't had one done. Alignment should change with a new set of wheels if you kept within plus sizing (which you did with the 225/45-18s), however, it is worth a look. Make sure you keep your receipt if the rebalancing eliminates the vibration. If it does, speak to TireRack and they will most likely credit you the cost as good customer service. Or call them, they may have you go to one of their designated shops and have it done no charge. enjoy. steviej
  16. looks nice from that angle, but post a side view. also, what tread did you go with? steviej
  17. you don't need our permission, just go do it then. after the tank, report what you find out, but have some data like acceleration times before and after, mpg before and after, pre and post dyno information, etc. If you don't have any hard data then you only have what you perceive to be more power or not. my guess is that you won't notice anything better. steviej
  18. When you view each on your car via TireRack's viewer, the Sport Edition E1's look cleaner. The two rivet/bolt heads where the lip meets each spoke gives the KV5 a less smooth surface which subtracts from the clean look I like. Totally my opinion. (Plus the E1's will be easier to clean) Word of advise, go with a 225 tire or less. Any larger and the rears will hit the inside of the fenders when you hit a bump and have an adult in the back seat. I highly suggest the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3. steviej
  19. You would expect closer to 50k from the front pads. I know I got about 50k miles on my front OEM pads and 75k miles on my rear. I could have pushed them another 5-10k miles but I had the time to change them out so I did. What kind of braking do you or any other driver in the car do? Quick hard applications will dramtically shorten a brake pad's life expectancy. steviej
  20. should be in your owners manual and on a plaque attaced to the driver's door jam. steviej
  21. I would. Can't hurt and will only help. "gotta do the blue" (the Brake Quiet I have is blue) steviej
  22. why not use fuel injector cleaner instead? (Chevron with Techron has always worked well for me) Or have the top end of the engine professionally cleaned. steviej
  23. you will be fine. The 2003 ES engine is not a high compression engine and does not require premium. The manual says is will run fine on regular unleaded, "however for better performance then 91 or better can be used". steviej
  24. Octane booster is made for racing applications for vehicles and boats without emission control equipment, including catalytic converters and oxygen sensors. Good quality octane booster is rather expensive. The ratio of octance booster to gas is critical. If your vehicle requires premium octane gasoline, just use it and make other appropriations in your budget. The difference really isn't that bad. For example today I filled up, 15.748 gallons. The regular unleaded price was $3.02, which would have been $47.55. The premium price was $3.25 which totalled me out to $51.18. That's only a difference of $3.63. So I go with one less pint of Ben and Jerry's or one less latte until the next fillup. steviej
