  3. The Toyota/Lexus intervals according to the service manual for conventional oil is 5000 and 7500 miles. I would never go 5000 miles with conventional oil. I do go 5000 miles with synthetic and have never had a problem. I have read that synthetics can go from 7500 to even 15000 miles. I am not sure I would be comfortable going above the 5000 miles. The main reason I use synthetic is simply for the extreme cold temps that I get in New England. Synthetic is far superior at temps below 0°, so extreme cold startups are much less harmful compared to conventional oil. Mr. monarch, you seem to pick apart every statement I make, here and on CL. Don't worry, I don't take it personally and encourage future conversations. My statement is based on personal experience of mine and experience with my LEXUS dealership. 1. There are several nationally syndicated radio auto-talk shows. One of whcih has the famous duo know as "Click and Clack". My statement is a repeat of what they state. The second is from another auto talk show host know as The Auto Doctor. The host's name is Junior Demato. He has a radio show based out of Boston and a nationally syndicated newspaper Q and A column as well. Would you like the phone number? His opinion/statement/belief is the same. 2. If Lexus/Toyota don't want you to switch back, then it would be in their best nature to monitor what oil they put in....don't you think? But this would be a nightmare in tracking all oil changes. Recently, Lexus even put in conventional oil in my Lexus that has been using synthetic since 15k miles, initiated by Lexus. No problems from the car or even a comment from Lexus. 3. My father and brother are mechanics with a combined >60 years experience. I put a lot of trust in them. They concur with both radio shows. as for break in periods, many high end autos are now shipped from the factory with synthetic oil already in them. my statements are just my opinions based partly in fact and partly on my and others experiences, so far it has worked for me. steviej
  4. I think the sign in the window should be done, if anything to give credit to the owner in any pictures that may be taken of your car......and so we can find one another. I would say get there and grab a corner. I have not heard if they are going to try to group the cars or clubs or models together. We did this at a previous meet and it worked well. Most of the formalities are worked out on site. It would be cool if LOC could group together......but it ain't our meet, we a but guests. Let's just go with the flow. steviej
  5. first off, where in Boston are you. I'm on the South Shore and work in Boston. second, you coming to NJ next Sunday with a bunch of us to the Lexus car meet? thirsd, I suggest the LOC IS forum sponsor Lextasy.com: http://66.240.194.212/scart/public/scart/d...topic%3D8670%26 If you ever see a roof spoiler for an 02-04 ES, hit me up with a PM. steviej
  6. two points. 1. If you use a throttle bottle cleaner, just read the can and use one that says "Safe for O2 Sensors". 2. The myth about not being able to switch back to conventional oil after using synthetic is a total myth started by the oil conglomerates to keep you buying synthetic (it costs more). You can go back and forth as much as you would like. steviej
  7. I have to decide this week if I am going to commit to the black pearl badge makeover on my ES. If I do, I want to do it my Sunday to show next weekend. We shall see. If I don't like it, I will sell them to you. Of course I will decide this before I peel the protective strip off the adhesive. You hit the wheel right on the valve stem. They look dirty. When I saw them in person I was thinking they looked like primer, or brushed gun metal. steviej
  8. The car was repaired. I am not completely satisfied with the right front passenger door. The trim doesn't quite line up on the inside and molding doesn't quite line up on outside. Paintjob is flawless. I will be in touch with you this week via PM. There are a couple of us meeting on I-84 after the Strurbridge tolls. Then we meet up with another bunch in Danbury. You can hook up with us in Either place. I am going to try a link to a CL thread that has caravan information for MA/CT/NY and for DE/MD/PA. steveij
  9. thanks for the tips. B) steviej
  10. low oil pressure or level. go out pull the dipstick out, wipe it off, put it back in and pull it out again, then read where the leve is. my ES has two oil lights. The oil can with wavy lines is the oil pressure and the oil can with drips coming out of the spout is the low oil level light. steviej
  11. look at it this way, LOC got the gold, CL took the silver.............will that help? :D steviej
  12. my point was that the filter for the 92-01 ES is NOT in the glove box as asked in your original question. yes-they do have a cabin filter yes-there are several brands out there yes-they can be purchased from non-Lexus dealers on the web. maybe we are just on the wrong communication lines. steviej
  13. store bought CD or home burned CD with your own label on it? yes it is covered if the car is under factory/manufacturer warranty. Bring it in. steviej
  14. Hey SW03ES, is this better?????? :whistles:
  15. post a pic if possible. Pre-02 ES's didn't have the cabin filter in or behind the glove box. They are down under the dash board to the above right of the gas pedal. It may just be a heat vent for the CD player. steviej
  16. exdotcomer, last one, i hope they helped. steviej
  17. different view.
  18. here are the clips that the net hooks onto.
  19. Awesome. Any idea that you think will make your car look good and you feel good looking at it is a good idea. I like the IS with a body kit. As for a rear lip, are you talking on the trunk, like a lip spoiler or are you talking like a skirt. If you do the skirt, then you should (IMHO) do the whole car all the way round....it will look odd if you only lip the front and back. The sides won't be even. check out the thread sponsor for a lip spoiler.....they look really cool. Add a rear window spoiler to match. Make it really hot and add headlight eyebrows. remember, the mods are done when you run out of money. (just kidding) have a blast.......and always post a pic to show what you've done. Try setting it up in the garage. steviej
  20. oil filters comparisons and the dialogue about synthetic vs conventional is just like Lite beer: Tastes great or Less filling. Many places do there own independent oil filter comparison. here's one that I caught for my motorcycle. I know this is a car site, but the manufacturers of the filters are pretty much the same. http://www.twocreeks.net/toby/oil_filters/index.shtml steviej
  21. I have to agree. I'm a big guy and the 325i, C230 and A4 were all too tight for me. But, the ES300/330 is juuuuuuuuuuuusssssstttttttttttt right. :) The 5 series, A6 and E class are just a little too much money, about $15,000 too much. The 7 series, A8 and S class....well Donald Trump didn't pick me. steviej for my money $ to $, amenity to amenity, the ES was the only way to go.
  22. Andy, have a sit down with the service manager. While in his office, ask to use his phone, explain to him/her that you are calling the 1-800-25-LEXUS number and press the button for customer service. If he says yes, conference the service manager and the 1-800 customer rep in so all can be heard. If he says no, get his name and leave. Call from the 800 number from home and tell them that the dealership would not allow you to call from there. Explain to the rep what the situation is and what the dealer quoted you. If the car is still under the original warranty, they will probably cover it. Press the issue and get corporate involved......you may be surprised at the result. steviej
  23. check ebay. sometimes these come uncut and can be programmed. The question is whether or not they can be programmed for a 1998? That I don't know. steviej
  24. very nice, but too many crevices and angles for me to clean. :whistles: oh yeah, I meant my detailer to clean. steviej
  25. To the LOC members going, update on the meet. A. I will have the following LOC flyers (lets put one on every Lex in the parking lot). :whistles: Plenty of large LOC window stickers (gold letters) and small black retangular LOC window stickers with gold lettering. I have a limited supply of medium size LOC window stickers in some really cool colors (yellow, gold, silver, blue, and white). The blue is wicked nice, but it won't go with my silver......I don't think. Let me know your preference first, or they will go to the masses. +++++++++++++++++++++ B. If you plan on doing so, it would help to make a post within this thread stating the item(s) you are bringing and selling at the meet, description, and asking price. In this manner, everyone can see what is going to be sold at the meet and can plan accordingly. PAULGS430 is selling (3) HYPER REV Aristo 2 mag. vol. #69 = $30. steviej is bringing a new set of Lexus black pearl emblems for a 1997-2001 ES300 = price unknown. Djdelite is selling a VIP Lexus JDM catalog = $20. C. Get there early. There are about 165 potential cars going to be there. The meet orgainzers have secured a permit for the parking lot for up to 100 cars. If all are on their best behavior, then there shouldn't be any problems or anyone turned away. Everyone please read the following! (1) No speeding, erratic driving or racing- If there is any of this type of behavior, it will not be looked upon kindly. There is a great danger when a large number of vehicles are speeding on public roadways. The last thing we want to do is endanger the safety of our forum members, and that of people on the roads in general. This includes any overly aggressive swerving, cutting people off, etc. As there will be a few caravans en route to the meet, there could be potential for catastrophe if someone decides to do their best "Fast and Furious" impression. Maintaining a safe speed on the road and not tailgating other cars can easily reduce this. (2) No Loud Music, Burnouts, Excessive Revving- Since we are going to be gathering in a public area, we will most likely be under much scrutiny from park security and local law enforcement. This meet could be ended very quickly with a "loud music" call to the police. The same holds true for excessive revving, burnouts, etc. The organizers of this meet understand that there will be people present that have EXTENSIVE audio/visual mods done to their rides, and want to showcase them. We fully understand and endorse that, but ask that you keep your demonstration short and sweet to avoid any unwanted attention. Those with exhaust mods, will be asked to do the same, just a couple revs to "show what 'cha got" not sitting there bumping against the rev limiter. Burnouts/donuts, etc will simply NOT be tolerated at this meet. (3) No Cross Brand flames- This meet has great potential to birth a wealth of hybrid meets/collaborations in the future. This could be a networking opportunity of great proportions! Just think of all the tuners, shops, online resources, etc. that could be shared amongst 3 premier luxury vehicle groups! The last thing we want to do is let a few snide comments undermine this effort. The fact of the matter is, we all drive what we drive for a reason, that reason being solely important to us as individuals, let's respect that decision across ALL brands. No matter what, WE ALL STILL LOVE OUR CARS! So let's leave any pre-conceived notions at home and come with an open mind and respect for each other and have a GREAT TIME! (4) Alcohol Consumption- Due to the rules & regulations of the public parks, we are going to ask everyone to refrain from bringing alcohol to this meet. D. Rain date: In case of rain cancellation. the alternate date will be Sunday, 5/2/04. Please watch this web site up to the last minute if weather becomes questionable. E. Contact information. My cell phone is 781-775-9264 and I will have that with me. steviej
