  1. Thanks for the advice. I was able to replace the low-beam headlamp bulbs without too much trouble. I used Osram Sylvania H7-ST Silverstar bulbs that I bought on the internet for ~$45. I had a little trouble getting the rubber boots off. It took more force than I was expecting, but eventually they popped out. Also, it takes quite a bit of force to unhook and hook the looped end of the wire that holds the bulb assembly to the headlight fixture. My one additional suggestion is to make sure you have good light. I did the job in the driveway and positioned the car so that the sun was shining in the right direction. By the way, after replacing the bulb on the passenger side so I could get the hang of it, I was able to replace the bulb on the driver's side without removing the battery.
  2. The driver side headlamp bulb (low beam) is burned out on my 1997 ES300. Would somebody please provide some instructions on how to replace the bulb? I can pull the wiring connector off the back of the bulb holder, but I can't seem to get to the bulb itself. The bulb holder appears to be attached to an elastomer cup, and I'm afraid of ripping the elastomer and destroying the seal to the headlight chamber. Also, the battery seems to be in the way for accessing the driver's side bulb (I've been working on the passenger side for practice.) I think some advice here may help a lot of other ES 300 owners. Thanks in advance. thanks in advance.
  3. Based on a similar experience, I think it is a wheel balance problem. See my post on vibration.
  4. Just to clarify, the Michelin tires were installed by a tire dealer (NTB), not my Lexus dealer. I drove on the Michelin tires with the vibration for about 9 months (it was just a small nuisance...only occurred at speeds between 60-70 mph). The vibration was the same as with the prior set of tires (they were another brand). This is why I think that the key to fixing the problem was a careful balance job. By the way, NTB rebalanced the tires at no charge. I'm posting this because I saw some other comments on the Lexus club boards about vibration at 60 mph.
  5. Thanks for input. I ended up asking a window tint shop to cut a rectangular piece of the high performance film and put it temporarily on the inside of the back window over the radio antenna. They did this by spraying the window with a water/surfactant solution to hold on the film without removing the throw-away protective layer covering the "glue" layer. I then checked the radio reception. I could not detect any difference in reception with and without the film. This science experiment took about ten minutes. I ended up going with a bronze "high-performance" film from Llumar. It looks great! And there does not appear to be any interference in radio reception with the film on the entire back window and the side windows.
  6. My 98 GS 300 had a vibration problem at 60 mph. The vibration was slight, but still a nuisance. Upon advice of a Lexus dealer, I bought a new set of Michelin Energy MXV4 Plus tires (they were needed any way). The new tires were installed and balanced (I observed the technician balance the tires). However, this did not fix the vibration problem. I then took the car back to the tire dealer (NTB), and they rebalanced the wheels and tires. Result: the vibration problem completely went away!! The ride is now smooth as silk at all speeds. I think the 60-mph vibration problem was due to the need for very careful balancing of the wheels. Just wanted to contribute this.
  7. Does anyone have any advice regarding window tinting a for a 1998 gold GS 300. In particular, has anyone had any problems with the "high-performance" films (those that contain a metalic layer) interfering with radio reception? The concern is that the film will interfere with the antenna that is embedded in the rear-window glass. I don't want to go with a "dye-only" film because of fear that this type of film will change color with time (I've seen some that have turned purple). Any recommendation on film brands or color? Thanks.
