  1. After you put in the replacement coolant, did it overheat again? Have you had the system pressure tested to make sure there are no small leaks. What was the cause of the original overheating.....bad radiator cap, waterpump going? The coolant level drop is probably just air bubbles working themselves out from when you added the replacement coolant. Coolant heats up, the bubble comes out, the level goes down. Just add more to the overflow jug and watch the level. If the jug has a hole in it, replace the jug, it ain't there for looks. The jug should have some coolant in it at all times. my big question.....why a 70/30 mix? steviej
  2. I said it before HoeBag, and I will say it again. Daaammmmnnnn, that is one sweet ride. steviej
  3. please search on this topic. There have been several threads in the past (6 months or so) that give detailed discussion of how to remove/replace the cabin filter in a 2nd generation ES. It is up under the dash, to the above right of the gas pedal. The 97 should have two filters that sandwich together and then fit in a slot. try searching on "cabin filter" steviej
  4. If you do it the last week in July, I might even consider driving down for it. That way I could stop in DC on the way home. Kinda make this a vacation. steviej
  5. yeah, but read their description of "normal" driving. That don't describe my normal driving. I would say the most people's everyday normal driving is their description of "extreme" and thus I go with the 5000 mile interval. steviej
  6. nice parents. would they be willing to adopt me? I had to buy all my own toys. have fun and be careful. steviej
  7. here is a link to tons of pictures from the day. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...9265#post879265
  8. Here are some pictures that I took. Lexus11 gaining on me: Hook up in SUNNY Danbury, CT. En route to NJ. PharmGuy in the lead, JiffyPop to the right. At the meet just before the clouds emptied. Pump up the sound in the RX The Raffle, during the rain. Now that's better. steviej
  9. that's a big no on the steering wheel controls too. Unless of course you remove the stock radio and insert an aftermarket one that has a remote. The acceleration ain't that bad. Not a GS430, but not a Corolla either. steviej
  10. I like the color. Very futuristic looking......I like that, too. Good luck with it. Is that your fiance sitting in it (second pic)? And is that you butt hanging out of your car at the car wash..... :D steviej
  11. es300man, you went and did it....... you opened pandora's box again. Here we go with the Less Filling/Tastes Great arguement. es300man, flip a coin, buy whatever is on sale, do whatever makes you feel comfortable.........just remember to change the oil and filter regularly. steviej
  12. I left Edison at 4pm and I pulled in my driveway at 10 past midnight. Even though it rained, it was worth the trip. Made multiple stops on the way to hook up with people. When we left Danbury and then Vince Lombardi, we had a pretty good sized caravan of nice shinny Lexi. I did snap a few shots and will post tomorrow. lexusk8, thanks for all your hard work....as ususal. The only variable we can't control is the weather.............oh yeah, and the traffic. It took PharmGuy and I almost 3 hours to from the 80/95 split in Jersey to the CT border. It was not a total loss, the people that stayed had fun, lots of cool givaways. I am actually using my Lexus koozie as we speak. And to top it off the RedSox were in the Bronx and in the rain and THEY WON. (Lexusfreak...that was for you) steviej
  13. Have faith boys. It never rains when I going to a meet. I'll see you all tomorrow. It's late and I got a long drive. Paul, I got your email.....see you in Danbury. I contacted Lexusk8 (black 01 ES 300), he will keep and eye out for you at the mall. steviej
  14. I have a sign in my lab that says: "FAILURE TO PLAN APPROPRIATELY ON YOUR PART DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN EMERGENCY ON MY PART!" mburn, I thought you might identify with that. steviej
  15. the 1MZ-FE and 3MZ-FE oil filters are located in the same place. For the RX it may be helpful to stand on a milk crate. jbarhorst2's got it. Stand in front of the vehicle, and look down between the front exhaust manifold and the back of the radiator/condensor. You will see the butt end of the filter sticking up at you. Yes the filter is angled down, so when you take it off, the oil pours out and down the side of the engine............damnn engineers. :chairshot: Don't worry, not that much oil comes out and there is a bracket/guide to direct the flow of the oil to one stream that exits next to the plastic splash guard. Word or note........have a large catch basin ready. Getting the filter wrench in there is also a exercise in patience. It can be done and best if the filter wrench is positioned like the letter p with the handle pointing down. Wear long sleeves as the manifold heat shield is very warm. The filter will be very very hot, work gloves help. Unscrew it and then quickly tip it upright while still under the manifold, then you will be able to direct it up and out without spilling any more oil. It only takes once to do it, then you will be a pro. Currently I am using the K&N gold filter now (HP-1002). The advantage to this filter is that it has a 1" nut molded into the bottom of the casing so that maneuvering a filter wrench in and out is no longer needed. good luck steviej
  16. contact member JPI and see what he might be able to do for you on pricing. also, try www.lexus-parts.com O2 sensors are easy to put in but you need two things: 1. you need to know which ones are bad and where they are located. 2. using a O2 socket is extremely helpful and recommeded. Usually they are less than $20 but worth it. steviej
  17. thanks for clearing that up. I thought it was lawyers and car salesmen. steviej
  18. I'll save the last two for you. They are easy to put on. I'll bring the windex wipes so that you can clean the window, too. steviej
  19. I just love fellow gear-heads. Lexusfreak, ask and ye shall receive. I have to caution (no, no caution is too harsh), suggest, that you keep and open mind when reading. It is published by Amsoil so the findings may be worded in their favor. I find this alot in the medical journals that I have to review. Studies submitted by companies tend to favor their product. steviej
  20. :D I'll photocopy every page for you my friend. We got one of those fancy schmancy copiers at work that will do heavily bond books perfectly. steviej
  21. it's a common problem with many cars nowadays. The filter is the best place to start as I did all suggestions here on my ES last May. I can say that after you spray cowls and ducts with Lysol or Simple Green, your AC will blow this smell for a couple of weeks. I tried it with both heat and AC. The problem lies in the filter. Changing the filter totally rid the AC of the horrid smell......kinda like really bad feet. I just change it once a year now, right before heavy AC use (May). The dealer nails you with the cost. I get mine now at www.irontoad.com. They are half the price. steviej
  22. cool, I'll add you to the list. check out the thread. bring what you want for yourself. Don't try to feed the army...over 200 people will be there. No beer....public park and it is not permitted. http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...st=0#entry46815 steviej
  23. Alan, it is planned as my 2004 Christmas present to myself, just as the basic warranty runs up. 00245-RM911-U1 - R/M 2002 ES300 Volume 1 $157.56 00245-RM911-U2 - R/M 2002 ES300 Volume 2 $125.76 quoted from Sewell Lexus. steviej
  24. Kevin, alot of the serive items can be done in one's driveway with a good set of tools. Knowledge being the first tool. It is simply fluid changes and inspection. It is not listed but the coolant system should be flushed. This may be best done by the dealer but can be done easily at home. Even though it is 5yr long life coolant, Lexus dealers are saying they don't trust it and want to flush it at 30k or 2 years. You can do the oil change, wiper change, air filter change, tire rotation, tranny fluid drain and fill at home. The brake fluid flush and PS fluid flush (if you opt for this) may be better done at the dealer. The biggest problem with doing it in the driveway is the proper disposal of the old fluids. steviej PS, are you going to the big Lexus meet in Edison NJ this sunday?
