  1. actually I find the actual shifting of the tranny to be extremely smooth and quiet. steviej
  2. yep.
  3. Alan, thank me only if it works. Does the 2003 ES have that light? The 2002 does not. I thought it was introduced in the 04 models to the IS/ES/and RX. steviej
  4. can't say.........never met him in person nor have I heard his voice. I can say that the girl next to SK's car certainly does NOT look like Nell Fenwick. :P ;) :D steviej
  5. Haynes has a manual for the 97-01 ES300/Solara/Avalon. It can be had on Amazon.com for $20. steviej
  6. just so we are on the same wavelength (sorry, a light joke there, get it lite....light.....oh nevermind). You speak of the little light that reminds you to change your oil and rotate your tires and stuff like that, right? You do not speak of the Check Engine Light, aka CEL (yellow and looks like and engine), right? try this if it is the reminder light to change your oil and stuff. 1. With your car OFF, place your key in the ignition and turn to "On". Do not start the car. 2. Find the odometer button and press until it reads the total odometer setting, (not the Trip A or Trip B setting). 3. Turn the key to OFF. 4. Place your finger back on the odometer button, press and hold. At the same time, turn the key back to "On". 5. Hold the odometer button in until the MAINT REQD light goes out...should take about 8-10 seconds. Good Luck steviej
  7. no Alan, not Brendan Fraiser. I meant this guy:

    Which Suv?

The Range Rover has one thing the other don't: A solid front axle. This will give you the feeling of a truck. The others have independent front suspensions and will be a little more forgiving in the ride. Ask yourself, "what am I going to use it for?" Are you going off roading? Are you going to take it in the back woods, trialriding, on the sand dunes or hill climbing? If your answer is yes, then look into the torque ratings of the vehicles in question. Are you going to tow anything with it? If you question is yes, then look into which one has the better tow packages and load ratings. What kind of mileage do you expect? If you are gas conscience then look into the RX400h. The list could go on. If it were me, it would be between the Porsche (even though it reminds me of a turtle) and the RX400h. steviej
  9. I on the other hand, would NOT buy a car WITHOUT them. I find the illumination to be far superior than halogen bulbs. My car has the autoleveling feature and I have never been flashed (unless of course my highs are on and I forgot to bring them down. :whistles: ). I can agree that some other cars do not have them aimed properly and that hurts oncoming traffic as well as the driver immediately in front of the HIDs. These bad apples do sour the public's like of HIDs. steviej
  10. I kinda pictured one to look more like Dudley Doright. :D but, I don't have a picture. steviej
  11. I searched on "DOGBONE", a common name for the one motor mount on the ES that is user replaceable. I searched: 365 days and newer and in ES forum. These threads came up. 12. What about taking the whole enchilada {the radio/steering wheel/ wiring harness(es)/and anything else invovled} from the 05 and transplanting it into your 04. That should work. The big question is really..............what's in your wallet? steviej
  13. I also look at it this way. If plugs are intended/expected to stay in the head untouched for 60-120k miles now, then I'm putting anit-seize on them. I want them to come right out in 4 years with no hassle. steviej
  14. is the jack secured tightly? how about the jack crank? Both of these are way over to the right. If those are eliminated as possibilities, then start looking into suspension as noted above. steviej
  15. As did I. I thought VVT-i wasn't introduced until the 99 model year. Either way, look at the plenum cover, it should say VVT-i on it if there. steviej
  16. what were the exact code(s)? Did they happen to tell you. Some EGR problems can be solved by a simple and thorough cleaning if you know how. Other problems, not so lucky. Dealerships will ususally go for part replacement before they try to salvage or repair an existing malfunctioning part. steviej
  17. If the plug is easy to get to then it can be done with an "easy-out" and without removing the head. The easy-out grabs hold of the inside of the plug, and bites in. The easy-out rotates in the opposite direction of the threads so once the bit takes hold, the threaded part of the plug unscrews right out of the hole. I think Pearls stuck plug was the middle on the rear cylinder bank. That's kinda tricky to get at, so you may be right. steviej
  18. even when driving in 4 and you stomp it, the hesitation is still there. driving in 4 only eliminates the joggle that is felt when the tranny hunts for 5th but the car actually is not going fast enough to maintain a smooth ride in 5th. steviej
  19. I have taken the liberty to pin the thread on Angel eyes and included clearing corners in the title so that we can put this to rest now. steviej
  20. I second that motion. They are high quality with a no questions asked full replacement lifetime warranty......and Sears is everywhere and open on Sundays when you break the tools. Other good names are Snap-On and Matco but they cost more. Go with Sears. Cruise their website, you can usually get a good deal on a multi piece set including a floor standing cabinet or bench top tool drawer set. steviej
  21. This is what is in the 2002 ES manual. Fuel selection: Select premium unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating of 91 (Research Octane Number 96) or higher for optimum engine performance. However, if such premium type cannot be obtained, you may temporarily use unleaded gasoline with an Octane Rating as low as 87 (Research Octane Number 91) steviej
  22. I don't know why you said that! I have used high temperature anti-seize compounds for many years (probably before you were born), when installing spark plugs on my cars, boats, etc. This type of product worked very well on aluminum or iron cylinder heads with absolutely NO problems. as have I, my father (who taught automechanics for 33 years), my brother and every other mechanic I know. I also use dielectric grease in the spark plug boot. steviej
  23. sk, you might want to edit the title of your thread. It says "Toronto Lexus Owners Meet Saturday May 29th, Come out and meet other Lexus owners" your meet is Aug, 15th. steviej
  24. Lexus hasn't offered any AWD cars in the past. The first is scheduled for 2006 with the GS. steviej
