  1. i have a full synthetic Kendall 10W-30 motor oil done by Firestone. my mom bought some mastercare plan thing for pretty cheap, so i get full inspection and everything for free. i only have to pay $20 to upgrade from dino oil to synthetic oil. pretty good though... 110K miles and synthetic runs fine without leaks.
  2. lowering the car with springs will increase your cornering ability. if matched with a stb, it'll corner extremely well, since the car has a lower center of gravity, and the stb will hold the towers in place. i personally don't have springs installed at all. since i'm still only 16, it's hard to find a job in the dallas metroplex, and it's my mom's car (her real one is a '00 RX) but she lets me drive this one, so spending a few hundred on springs won't look too good in my mom's eyes. oh well. i'm hoping to trade the ES in for a remodeled IS, or if the IS coupes start comin' out, an IS coupe. :)
  3. i personally have MTEC racing headlights. they can be bought on ebay for $25 + shipping. link to a pair of H7's there's a pair of H7 MTEC bulbs on ebay. i have 9006 on my lowbeams. they are very clear and clean.so much more white than blue. since it burns at 4350K, it's almost stock Lexus HID temp which is 4100K. they look great.
  4. those silvervision bulbs are neat-o. i wanna get some for my '93, but since the car is my mom's... she controls what i'm allowed to change on the car. lol. since she's paying for it. too hard for me to get a job right now. stupid economy.
  5. yeah... what mike said. lol. the IS rims are on sale all over Ebay. i'm not sure about single rims for sale. i think there might be a few. but there's a whole load of set of 4 rims in ebay. maybe even consider going into a set of chrome rims :)
  6. lol oh yeah that's right... all earlier gen's were 4-spd auto and 5-spd stick. forgot. oops :) y`ah sk, i saw the thread. i replied in there. i haven't been too busy, but i guess i've been skipping clicking the LOC link on my IE. i come back... click the view new posts button. and guess what i see... 29 pages of new threads. scared the crap outta me. :D oh yeah sk - what's this custom body kit you got on? i don't think i've seen a pic of it. :D
  7. i personally got a different type of bulb. they're MTEC bulbs. they burn at 4350K and are more of a white color, but when looking at the projector, it has a blue tint. real cool. the problem with these bulbs in my region, is that the street lights are quite bright, so it drowns out my bulbs... pretty sad. lol. :) but MTEC's are just about tied with PIAA in quality. they are the two top brands in Japan.
  8. i personally use 93 octane in my '93. basically because i've been bred to use premium for premium cars. :D
  9. wow it's been a while since i've been postin'... anyone wonder where i've been? lol. i think of overdrive sort of like a 5th gear. but i'm probably wrong. i don't get the whole tranny thin'. skp? wanna help me understand betta too? lol :)
  10. i'm almost positive the TRD s/c won't work for the first generation ES300. the TRD s/c was designed for the newer '97-'01 engine. it may fit with some modification, but i'm not sure how major the modification would have to be. i don't think i ever heard of TRD releasing a s/c especially for the first gen ES300.
  11. well i found the problem, sk. the problem was a crack in the intake pipe. you mentioend the O2 sensor, so i checked everything related to the airbox and the O2 sensor area. when i ran from the air box towards the intake manifold, i noticed a crack. it's about 3 inches long. this would be the reason for the air to run too rich during idle. you were right, sk. :) well the lexus service shop isn't open today, but ijust duct taped the crack up, and the car works fine right now. i'm gonna go to the lexus service shop on monday and see how much the part is, and i'm wondering if i can just switch out the intake pipe myself. it doesn't seem too hard. maybe 5-6 clips. i don't want to spend money on labor fees. it seems like a DIY work.
  12. all right, thanks sk. so it shouldn't be a problem driving except for maybe stalling, or breaking loose from the brakes. but my brakes hold fine. i holds very well to the engine power surges.
  13. i have no clue where ANY of that stuff is... lol yes i'm mechanically-challenged. lol i don't spend enough time checking my engine bay. it's sad... i know... lol. i'll bring it to the lexus service people tomorrow and have them check it. thanks for the input, sk. would you drive the car in its current condition? do you think it would be safe to drive?
  14. i'm not sure. it sort of does seem like it almost stalls. i think the engine actually did stall at the red light when the check engine light came on. i saw the check engine light and i was still on the brakes. i let the brakes go, but nothing happened and i couldn't hear the engine anymore. so i turned the car off, and restarted it.
  15. it idles around 1k. i think a bit lower. i've never really paid attention to the idling rpm count. i was on city roads. maybe hit 50mph at most. i'm pretty sure the a/c works fine. and the rpm's rise normally in neutral. the only problem is in park and in drive. i don't think there's a problem in reverse. i didn't hold the brake down in reverse, so i'm not completely sure. i think the problem only appears when the engine is engaged in a moving gear.
  16. well i'm gonna get some sleep and take the car to a lexus service shop down the street tomorrow morning. if you've got any ideas, i'd love to hear what you think the problem might be, skp. i'm real worried about the car. i hope it's not an expensive problem or anything. the shaking just sort of scares me. :(
  17. the rpm's don't really move much. maybe from 1k to about 1.5k it's not a big surge, but it makes the car sort of shake forward everytime it surges. i only had the headlights on. i never got the chance to turn them off since it was at night. i didn't have the radio on or anythin' else. not a/c either. i'm just sort of scared because of the budging forward. the car doesn't move on the ground, but the car itself has a budging feeling like it wants to go forwards, but because the brakes are applied, it can't.
  18. and just fyi, the 300hp engine in the GS430 is a V8, not a V6. that would be one hell of a V6 if it had 300hp. the 2JZ-GE in the IS300 is a great engine and is capable of high numbers. i would keep any lexus or toyota over honda and acura. except for the NSX. the NSX is just it's own little thing. :D
  19. the check engine light did come up at one red light though, but when i started driving again it dissapeared, and when i took it around the neighborhood for a few test stops to see what happens after it starts showing the surges it didn't show up at all. it only showed up for a few seconds. maybe 2-3 seconds. but when i was stopped during the test runs and the surges started trying to throw the car forward, i would release the brake, and the engine would pass by 7 surges until the car went into a smooth roll in drive without gassing. oh and the car is a '93. it has about 104k miles on it. where exactly IS the air flow meter?
  20. well the car drives fine when it gets going. if the rpm surges begin after sitting at a red light for a while, the acceleration is really slow. almost like it's just in d without me gassing until it finally catches up.
  21. well today. i was coming home from a party... and i was stopped at a red light. after a few seconds of sitting with my brakes down, the car begins to shake. almost like there's not enough battery juice. the engine gives spurts of energy. it's not a constant engine revolution sound. i got home, and stuck the car in park in the driveway and stepped out. i looked at the headlights on the wall. and as the surges of power ran through the engine, the lights got brighter with the extra surges of energy. i'm not sure what's really wrong with it. i was in an accident a month ago, and had just gotten the car back a few days ago. i took a light to the timing belt and could see it turning like it had spasms. it didn't move smoothly. i'm not sure what could be the cause of this. whether electrical or what... i was thinking maybe the battery, alternator, or regulator. or anything connected to the timing belt or crankshaft. but i'm not sure. not all that good with mechanics. if anyone has any help on this, it's greatly appreciated. especially you, sk. :D thanks. leave me anythin' that's on your mind. kevin
  22. that altima looks errily like a G35 sedan... <_<
  23. well there are a lot of dash kits... i know... but not many of them have the smooth feeling like some kits. most kits like metra kits have this weird texture to them that completely doesn't match the stock look. it's all bumpy. i've been looking for one that matches the smooth plastic feel and look like stock.
  24. awesome pics of the GS, blue. nice to see the rims on. need to update your sig pic :)
  25. there's also one more that i have personally. they're MTEC headlights. they run the same quality as PIAA in Japan and are 4350k temp. they are much brighter lumens wise to my stock halogens. i bought mine on ebay for $25/pr of 9006's. they run 55w->100w. check it out.
