heh sorry to say guys, my '93 ES300 is gone. my mom finally realized there were too many things wrong with it and thought it was best to get a new car. i looked for an '01 ES300 but to no luck on a good deal. i looked to an '03 IS300 5-spd but no luck, i was sold... then my friend sends me this one link... Tafetta White '02 Acura 3.2 TL Type-S $16000 // 21k miles i just couldn't pass it up. went to check it out the next day, put down the deposit, and picked it up the third day... traded in the ES for $3000... but not before i stripped it to hell :) took out my HU, and my bulbs (which fit right into my TLS fogs) :D well i'll still be around guys, since the ES will still be my most well known car. i'll still provide help to this great site and the great people. take care of those cars, and don't do anything stupid :) kev

the cuts are used to redirect the light and make it brighter. without the cuts, the light wouldn't be as bright as it is with the cuts. it's a light diffraction thing. it does help. kev

there is a way to rig the wires to do it. but the problem with the ES is that the wires are connected to the turn signal arm and the wires go through the steering column. that one's a hard one to figure out, but if the wires can be accessed easily, an easy mod to do once you find the right wire to trick the car into thinking the headlights are on. kev

dang stevie. good to hear vacation wasn't too bad with your mind on the Lex the whole time. good to hear it's getting worked on and being babied just like you treat it. :) if they work on high end cars like Lexus, BMW, MB, Audi, and any exotics, i'm sure they'd be a well trusted body shop. and if a guy's willing to pull procedure to help you fix somethin wrong that lexus did. that's gotta be somewhat reassuring. hope this experience goes all well. i'll bet you can't wait to get that Lexus back and get back into the smooth clean feel of the ES :) it'll come, stevie, it'll come. :P kevin

i actually had that problem with my old stock headunit in my '93... it was really really loose and the volume wouldn't come on at all. i had a lexus mechanic check it out and he tore the whole thing apart and found out something had come loose and had to be resoldered. he decided the HU still wouldn't be right with it so he told me to get something new. but since it's about the same thing, i'm guessing it's a tape inside that's loose and needs to be reconnected along with anything else connected to the button. it would most likely need the entire head unit changed out. the car should be under warranty... so why not take it to lexus and show them their problem. kevin

dang that's gotta suck... and you can't really ask him to pay for your car... since he already got a beating from it. lol. the fender couldn't be more than $300/400 painted and installed. the hood repainted maybe $200. gotta do it right. but also make sure that it's lexus OEM parts... the last time i had my front end replaced... dang... i got this ugly butt grille... but i had to, because it was my fault, and yeah... tried to save money out of my deductible. kevin

i personally don't have much experience with the self-leveling HID's, but that could be something wrong with the leveling sensor, telling it to level too low from it's original height. i'm not sure though. anyone with self-leveling HID's could fill you in, but it's always worth a shot to just go to lexus and ask someone there if they know what it could be. but then again they always want money, so they'll say the most expensive thing on your car is broken and needs fixing. lol. shouldn't be too hard a problem to fix though. good luck. kev

ebay does have the stuff... but i got mine at best buy. or actually any audio store should have them. car toys is usually most places, so try there first, but you can order from crutchfield online as well. most everywhere carries the same Metra kit. it has the wierd grain to it that doesn't match the a/c control smoothness, but it's all good. it's a kit, and it works, so why not. :) kev

i got one at my nearest Best Buy. it was about the same price as that site... or actually it was like $15 + tax. it's the same thing though. but i trust a local shop better. it's easier to see if the harness is the right one that connects onto your plug. crutchfield has wiring harnesses too. kev

there is actually another place you can order all this from... or just go get it. i got all my stuff from best buy. the dash kit, wiring harness, rca 2-to-1 wires, and headunit from there. everything was installed perfect and is powerful through the stock amp and stock speakers. it IS possible to use the amp. but if you really want a powerful system with new components and subs, etc. i would still recommend rewiring the entire thing with new wires straight to each component from the HU. kev

dang stevie... sorry to hear bout the ES. hope the body shop experience goes through quick and painful. i would still keep the car. it seems to be just cosmetic damage. no mechanical most likely. but best thing is that YOU'RE okay... cars can be replaced and fixed... lives can't... especially by drunk drivers. stay safe out there guys. the LOC stickers are great... i have WAY too many... matt made way too many designs lol. i can't finish them all... my windows would be covered if i used every design he made... i swear. matt's a maniac. :) (in a good way, matt...) kev

now THAT is dead on info. lol. i really haven't heard anythin about direct sunlight setting off the LASER alert. i have quite a few friends with V1's, and i guess they've been working pretty well. personally i would get it since i've seen the arrows work pretty well here in the dallas, tx region. they've been dead on accurate many times. but i still see it as quite expensive... if i had $100 extra laying around i'd opt for it i guess... but best deal for your money... i'd still have to say 8500S hands down. that was a looooonnggggg read. but totally helpful :) btw. welcome to LOC. :D kev

hahah sk actually i might have to disagree with you... i'm using the stock amp... wired through a rca hookup to an aftermarket HU and wiring harness. it's quite simple... RCA connection, basic wirehookup minus the extra pull for each speaker and straight on the headunit. the power i've seen from my little $100 Pioneer HU is actually stronger than the stock HU i had before. the only thing i've lost is the ability to move my sound from left to right... but i don't really see the point of that at all anyways... i've always played music straight through all speakers on the car. never used the fader and balance. there actually IS a way to wire a HU up to the stock amp. lol. just took a while to figure out... and a nice experienced audio tech at Best Buy. :) i would've done the total new amp hookup... but didn't really want to spend too much money on audio for this car... since my mom's thinking about trading it in for another car. maybe the IS300/IS330, G35 Coupe, or maybe i'll try and find a nice used 240SX for a nice little red top SR20DET drop-in as a college project car. :) kev

lol lexusk8... those're basically the same things neil said :P nice cover guys. got to this before me. but the guys covered it... basically from '92 - '01 the same things were changed... but some with a different design i.e. wheels. the coach ed. main difference is the COACH perforated leather. and the fact that you get a free COACH product with the car :) but mannn i wish i had coach leather with those nice emblems in my white ES :D kev

some of y`all also gotta put in the mental effect. your mind knows there's something new on the car... just feeling it could be a majority of your mind saying wow this feels faster b/c i spent money and added things to it. the dyno is the only true factual representation of any horsepower/torque gain from any bolt-on. many bolt-on's produce minimal gains that could only be seen by a dyno... if any gain at all (those no name intakes and exhausts). $25 really isn't that bad for 2 pulls on the dyno. i mean you'll know yourself for a true fact how much hp you're pullin at the wheels and see how the two compare... stock air box vs injen intake. i still wonder if the AEM V2 intake is gonna be made for the older gen ES300's :) calm down, sk :) we don't want this getting outta hand :P haven't been on here much lately... how've all y`all been anyhow? kev

if it's a jammer it's supposed to send out a mixed signal back to the radar... unless it just completely takes in the signal and eats it up... but i don't understand how that would work lol. gotta agree with stevie. i ain't buyin their story... rather spend $300 on an Escort 8500S :) kev

it's all right... i'd rather have my MTEC bulbs than the POS bulbs that were installed after my dad's accident. dang... i couldn't see ANYTHING with those bulbs... happy i changed... they're quite bright actually... not as much distance as actual HID's... i know... but for $25... pretty darn worth it :) kev

that IS a nice avalon... there have been quite a few people who have nitroused their ES's. quite a few from the first gen... they've seen some pretty good power gains... but i would have to question the stability of my engine's condition before i venture to put more pressure on it. good luck to anyone that wants to add this to their engine. it is quite do-able. kev

welcome to the club!! heh my pearl white 93 ES actually probably has worse paint chips. i've got chips runnin from the lower grille to upper grille to hood. i've got random paint chips all over the place... man this just reminds me how much i hate dallas highways... too many rocks and small pebbles all over the place. one of these days i'm gonna be so mad when a large rocks flies and shatters my windshield. lol. hope ya enjoy your stay here at the LOC kev

i personally have MTEC japanese bulbs, and silverstars for the fogs. they are much brighter as the H3 fogs. i haven't gone out to get hte high beams yet. but i'm using 4350K MTEC bulbs... not usre about lumens rating. it's hard to find for japanese companies. since i don't understand japanese... heh. but hey dropspace, where around dallas are you located? i'm in plano, right by davenport lexus service shop. kev
