  1. I found out what P0031 code is. Can someone please tell me where the 02 Sensor is located on a 2003 ES 300??? Bank 1 Sensor 1 Thanks http://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/ P0031 - Oxygen (A/F) Sensor Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 1) OBD-II Trouble Code Technical DescriptionOxygen (A/F) Sensor Heater Control Circuit Low (Bank 1 Sensor 1) This O2 sensor #1 may also be refered to as an air/fuel ratio sensor since on some vehicles it is. It detects the amount of oxygen in the exhaust gas compared to the outside air and then vehicle's computer adjusts the air/fuel ratio going into the engine. The sensor is less effective when the exhaust gas temperature is low, so it includes a heater which is activated to help get better readings from the A/F O2 sensor. Essentially this P0031 code means that the resistance of the heater circuit is lower than normal. In most cases, that resistance level must fall below 0.8 A to trigger the DTC code.
  2. The CEL was out in this morning and then after about 10 miles of driving it came back on. So I got the code read P2238? Any ideas? They said it was an AF sensor...or maybe a 02 sensor. Never heard of a AF sensor. Thanks Dakrri
  3. Is there a way I can check for engine codes/system diagnostic on my cars inside led display? My check engine light came on. 2003 ES300 Thanks Dakrri
  4. My front fender(s)arond the wheels, about half way up the body, is pulling away from the the "black" inner plastic fender well, on our 2003 ES. Is there some sort of clip that is missing? I searched the fourm but could not find a simular problem. Thanks dakrri
  5. Well I did it….I sold the LX450 and bought a 1999 F250 Crew Cab Diesel. This truck will serve me better in the North Woods of Wisconsin. I will own another Lexus in a couple of years, as the LX450, was my 3rd Lexus. However, it will more than likely be a sports car IS, GS, etc. This site and its members have been great to share information with and I will visit it from time to time. My vehicle is for sale at Quality Truck and Car Sales IA.(AutoTrader.com) The Dealer was an !Removed! and sold me a F250 that was misrepresented. The back wheel fell off exiting the highway at 70mph, no jack or spare tire, and miles from the nearest garage to name a few of the issues. Thank God for the decent people that stopped and helped us (me, my wife and 14 year old daughter) out. He did not stand behind the sale at all!! I hate car dealers that screw people. There are other issues that I won’t go into at this time. That’s one thing I can say about a Lexus Dealership, you always get the Red-Carpet-Treatment. Take care, Dakrri
  6. I bet its you O2 sensor(s). I had to replace mine. Go to Auto Zone they will read your code for free. If it is the O2, make sure to get a new gasket with the new sensor. I replaced them both right away. They are a 75-100 bucks on ebay. dakrri
  7. The reason for selling, has to do with practicality. This is my 3rd Lexus (94 SC400, 96 LX400, and 96-LX450) and they have been exceptional vehicles. If I do sell, I know that I will own another Lexus in the future. I bought a cottage in northern Wisconsin 2-years ago. The 450 LX is just not a functional hauler when it comes to ATV’s, Food/beer coolers, cloths, tools, building supplies, etc. I do pull a 100 inch x 10 foot trailer, but that’s becomes a pain after awhile. I’m looking to buy a used diesel pickup truck with an 8-foot bed. I appreciate all the feedback and your all right about pricing, it’s what a person is willing to pay and the demand for the vehicle. Has anyone ever sold or bought off “autotrader” or “cars.com”. I’m thinking of maybe using one of them as a seller. Thanks for the feedback Dakrri
  8. I’m contemplating selling my 96 LX450 with 101,000 miles on it, and would like opinons from aroud the country. I have been looking around at websites and it seams they are getting between $15,000 and $16,500 for LX450's in my condition (excellent). It has the 3rd row seats, dark green with tan, new tires, moon-roof, luggage rack, back wind spoiler, CD exchanger, etc. I was wondering if anybody knows of an internet site that has "high sales" (not eBay) when it comes to SUV’s. I live in Wisconsin and did most of my research on pricing in this state. I know we can post on this site, and I probably will, but has anyone bought or sold on autotrader.com, or cars.com, etc? Do you think the pricing $16,500 obo, is fare? dakrri
  9. I had a 94 Toyota Land Cruiser and blew the front axle seals out ($650.00) by pulling a 6,000lbs camper. I too had the electric brakes, but the killer was the “weight distribution hitch”. The function of this hitch is to put 35% of the load on the front axle of the vehicle. After talking with the Toyota dealer and Toyota Customer service, they do not recommend the weight distribution hitch for any "fulltime" four-wheel drive Truck/SUV. We pulled the camper for a couple of months before the seals blew. But when they went it dam near put us in the ditch. You'll also know by the excessive grease/oil spots under each front hub when you park the Cruiser had 67,000 miles on it when this happened. Please check with your dealer Dakrri wisconsin
  10. I use the "Fram Double Guard" filter and change my oil (Mobile 1) every 5,000.00 miles. With almost 8 quarts of oil in the motor and frequent oil changes I think you’d be hard-pressed to find a bad filter of any Name Brand Company. It’s one of those things you could argue about all day. I drink Budweiser (K/N filter) and my friend drinks Bush-Light (Fram Filter) but at then end of the night we are both Fu#*#ed up!!!  Dakrri
  11. I had the same issue with Fram filters. The Fram website shows one number and the store catalog shows another. The difference in filter size is doubled. I use the larger one figuring it filters more particles. Out of curiosity, I look at the Fram filter for a 96 Land Cruiser, and it uses the larger one. 96 LX450 dakrri
  12. When I bought my LX450 from an independent high-end dealer, it came with a 1-year motor and power train warranty from The Penn Warranty Corporation. They say in the contract that it even covers head gaskets. The truck can go to any Lexus dealer in the USA for repairs. They just sent me a renewal notice and the cost are as follows. 6-months $180.00 12-months $300.00 24-months $480.00 36-months $540.00 I never had to use it, and I never researched the company. My dealer swears by them and does not sell a car without at least the one-year warranty worked into the price. He sells Lexus, BMW, Porsche, so on and doesn't want to take a chance. The number of the company (Penn) is 1-800-356-9441. You must have less than 125,000 miles on the vehicle. Dakrri
  13. TIA, Just a thought………. I recently had an automatic starter installed on my 1996 LX450. It came with (2) new key fobs. I got mine installed at a discounted price of $99.00, regularly priced $180.00. So my thought is that you could get a remote start with 2 new key fobs cheaper that a new master key. All my alarms still work and the new key fobs unlock the doors. The only down side is that they do not have the Lexus emblem on them. dakrri
  14. I put one in my 1996 LX450, for just the opposite reason though. We want a warm truck in the cold Wisconsin winters. The unit I had installed is called VALET and the asking price was $180.00 installed. There is a new automotive electronic shop around town that was running a special deal for $99.00 installed. For that price I put one in my 1999, 4-runner also. Things to note: 1. The unit I bought has a small (4-inch) very thin antenna that’s mounted on the windshield to pick up the signal from the remote key fob. On one vehicle they mounted the antenna right underneath the rearview mirror butted up to the edge of the roof liner. On the Lexus ….for some reason they mounted it in the lower corner of the driver side windshield. The one mounted under the mirror can be started from 800 feet away, the other one is half that distance. I may go back and have them relocate it. So far though it has not been a problem. I can sit at my desk and start the vehicle parked in our employee lot. 2. I had to give up the Lexus and Toyota key fobs for an aftermarket cheaper looking version (vanity only) 3. On the 4-runner, I lost the capability of rolling down the back window with the new remote key fob. I felt it was a fair exchange. 4. They had other versions at the store that ran $300 – $400 that might have more bells and whistles, but I just wanted a warm truck in the winter. 5. All alarms still work and it also unlocks/locks the doors. Dakrri
  15. 1996 LX450 I know that you can bypass the automatic control by just pushing the “auto” button to off. But even in manual mode, when you first start the engine, with the air-conditioning on or off, the recirculation switch goes to inside air automatically. Doug you mention an override switch on the backside of the module?? Do tell. The squealing noise was probably from overexerting the 4-wheel drive system Sorry about the slow response to the forum, but I only check it when I’m in the office at work.
