  1. The kwickkool is a similar idea to the Redline Water Wetter.....was just wondering if I would get any benefit as I just did a coolant flush a short while ago so I'm considering adding half a bottle to my recovery tank & the other half to our Forester. Quite popular with the Subi's actually. B)
  2. Can you elaborate on that Mike? I'm not really considering it for the benefit of freeze protection. Have you used it?
  3. Bigtime! :D
  4. Is anyone currently using (or has used in the past) Redline Water Wetter in their cooling system? I've heard it's pretty good stuff & am considering giving it a try in my ES & Forester. Any feedback on the subject is appreciated. B)
  5. Josh, As I mentioned due to the AWD system on the Matrix, insisting on a directional tire is redundant to begin with because you do not criss cross them anyway.....so a non directional tire will act as a directional tire. ;) That problem is solved. - My suggestions (which will come as no suprise) would be the GY Triple Treads.....H speed rated here too bud with an 80,000 mile tread life! (740 rating). Never mind 1 year, these will be good for several my friend......is that not worth a few extra bucks? In the end, what will you save if you spend $15 - 20 less per tire only to have to replace all 4 in a year? Make 'long term' economic sense? B) They are on my wife's 2003 Subaru Forester & my 01 ES.......Safety & longevity were the top 2 priorities in this decision, cost was way down on the list & they are still MUCH cheaper than Michelins! .....Those who say the TT's are noisy need their hearing checked.....they are super quiet & the traction is absolutly fantastic...especially in bad weather! They are far & away my first choice (and currently on sale at Tirerack!). Your doing yourself a big dis-service if you don't seriously consider them........shop around for prices. B) http://www.goodyearassurance.com/ - The BF Goodrich Traction T/A isn't a bad choice & you can get them in 1 of 3 different speed ratings (T,H, & V....at different prices remember) but they only have a 440 treatwear. No personal experence but I hear they provide very good results......but are more performance oriented. - Another one to look at would be the Yokohama Avid V4S......very reasonable prices, fairly long treadlife (500) but winter traction is a bit questionable......very good value overall. Stay clear of the MXV4's......for the prices they charge for your size, I don't know why the folks at Michelin don't just wear masks & carry shotguns! :whistles: Other than that bud, you will get a year out of a set of the Falken's for a decent price......but your going to have to do this all over again upon your return as they are only good for 30k miles. Those are the best suggestions I can give out of all the selection you have in your size. Keep us posted on your decision......hope this was of help.
  6. This video is pretty cool.....Enjoy! B) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=54...60829459&q=race
  7. Isn't the 'stock' size of the 2006 GS 300 (RWD or AWD), 225 50 17?
  8. lol, he had her fooled right up until the end.
  9. Josh, What is the factory size of the Matrix & are you sticking with the OE size? (I'm getting either 205 55 16 OR 215 50 17....not 205 50 16) Remember the AWD system on the Matrix is not a full time AWD system like Subaru's are. Having said that, I would stick with an OE size because of the AWD system......just my 2 cents. Why are you only concerned that the tires last a year? Why not spend a bit more & get something that will last much longer? Give me the above details & I will be better able to suggest very good choices. B) Not a huge fan of the GY RS-A's personally......but don't be overly concerned about a directional tire. On an AWD system, it's best to keep the tires on the same side of the car once they are mounted when doing rotations to begin with so it's just a front to back switch (no criss crossing).
  10. Agreed. B)
  11. All my CD's are burned that I have in my changer........never had a problem whatsoever. Use quality CD's & you should be good. B)
  12. Mag, What is the service/maintenance history on your tranny? All fluid changes at the proper intervals accounted for up until now? If not, I would suggest you get it done sooner rather than later as a preventitive measure.
  13. Gotcha. Looking forward to hearing how you like the Michelins......not a bad looking tire at all. B)
  14. Once you factor the exchange rate, S&H it's just not a good buy (plus they want to sell me that pump to boot).......next time around I hope I have the $$$. But all things considered, the Castrol should provide good service. Several members of my Subi sites concur it's pretty good stuff (although I know not the very best) with no problems reported (I know it will be better than the conventional 'Subi' stuff). B) Other choices were Motul which was close to the same price (and available only at the Subi dealer that I know of in these parts, +75% mark up) as was Red Line. :(
  15. My dealer (about 35 mins from me) want's like $17 a qt! (I'm doing some other stuff to the car as well) And the online folks want to clean up on the shipping & handling charges. :( Amsoil would have been my first choice, but a little tight with $$$ for the time being.
  16. I wanted something better than conventional when the time comes to change the diffs of our Subi Forester, & I have had good luck in the past with Castrol products (and the price was very reasonable).......I gave serious consideration to Amsoil & Motul & Red Line gear oils......but they were astronomical in price & very difficult to find in my neck of the woods. Castrol it is.... B) Thanks for the replies.
  17. I agree with the first part, but the second is a non issue if all maintenance has been performed on time....it's such a small percentage.
  18. Hope that's all it was. B)
  19. Kewl Steve......did you get my response to another thread on here & the new Yoko's on the market? Just curious is all bud.
  20. Lol, I didn't want to be the one to say it! :whistles: Exactly! B)
  21. Better late than never I guess. :whistles: And 5w40 synthetic for the Malaysian market......interesting. B)
  22. I had the same problem programming my 2001 ES300. It finally worked when I followed the instructions from the beginning of the non HomeLink/Rolling code instructions. Once that process is completed, and the system rejects the code, then continue with the HomeLing/Rolling code instructions. Now it works fine. This worked for my ES, but I assume most models are programmed the same way. If you live in your own home with garage, you can get it to work.......in a condo (because of security apparently) it's not possible unfortunately........I overturned every stone possible to get around it (other than calling for a 'Condo board of directors' vote to change it - my hand to god, I am sol lol). :(
  23. How long after you had the tires rotated & balanced did the vibrating start? Are all air pressures set correctly & did you get a 4 wheel alignment? We'll start with the easy stuff first. B)
  24. From the folks who have tried kumho's, they are not rated highly at all on this site I'm afraid. No experience with them personally. But after reading many comments about them, I doubt I ever will.
