  1. I bet you'd be able to get a ton of free stuff too Steve! I like your thinking my friend! B)
  2. Bottom line the way I see things If I am honest...with all the media attention this has gathered, I found that Toyota...itself (including it's PR people & right up & including it's new President Akio Toyoda - the Grandson of Toyota's founder no less!) & it's dealers came across as severly 'dazed & confused'...the service departments are the 'front lines' that deal with this sort of thing...that's Toyota's responsibility to relate all relevent info to it's dealers (or come out with a comprehensive & easy to understand statement which at the beginning they did not) to assure worried customers...to say that the floor mat recall is not related to the accelerator pedal recall was simply nowhere near good enough & possibly even confused things even more. The events that transpired lately left me with the impression that even Toyota Head Office didn't know what the hell was going on...nor how to handle things on both fronts...the floor mat & accelerator pedal issues...granted we are talking about millions of vehicles here & many models over their product line...but the floor mat recall was issued last year & the vehicles effected represent roughly 60% of Toyota's sales in North America, not to mention that credible complaints have been documented for over a year now with deaths occuring because of the accelerator problem! :chairshot: I sincerely hope Toyota learns from their 'public relations' mistakes should something this serious ever happen again...but I think many customers will be shopping other competitors at least in the near term...time will tell what severity this will have on resale values & Toyota's overall reputation long term...It should be interesting.
  3. What was the recall notice 3 months ago...the floor mats I assume? They didn't do anything about it yet? And you won't get a recall notice about the accelerator pedal...it does not effect your car.
  4. Another interesting read (a little long) which perhaps explain some things related to 'Toyota's Production System'... http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/too-good-...r-decontenting/
  5. No the all weather rubber floor mats are a Lexus accessory & need to be purchased seperately...but considering the recall & you have a brand new car...I would ask your dealer to throw in a free set (front & back) for your inconvenience. B)
  6. AFAIK, those 2010 ES 350's that are built from January 2010 on will have the new & updated floor mats already installed.
  7. Might want to double check with your dealer....but it sounds like that is related to the floor mat recall...not the accelerator recall.
  8. According to the link below...Japanese produced Toyota / Lexus vehicles are equipped with accelerator pedals supplied by Denso... http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/toyota-up...uld-take-years/ And also info from Edmunds... http://www.insideline.com/toyota/toyota-pe...t-affected.html
  9. Yikes...they are calling it 'Mat-Gate', 'Pedal-Gate' & The 'Pinto' Experience! Toyota is getting their A$$ES handed to them.....bigtime. Okay, I've got it... How about a truth in advertising campaign when the dust settles with this...? What would you call it? The Lexus / Toyota Total Embarrassment & Humiliation Event!! Slogan: Our reputatiuon is tarnished & your resale value is in the crapper...let's make a deal! :whistles: Or something along those lines... Included is a $25k voucher toward any new Lexus...with recalls corrected.
  10. You forgot to add...steer safely to the shoulder or side of the road. ;)
  11. From Motortrend.com via the L.A. Times (this is page 4 of the article)...of the summary of events... November 29, 2009: A new Los Angeles Times story claims a number of Toyota drivers say their vehicles had still accelerated out of control with the floor mats removed. The Times also reports complaints of unintended acceleration increased after Toyota began using its drive-by-wire system in 2002, starting with the ES 300. According to the Times, unintended acceleration complaints on Lexus ES 300s jumped from an average of 26 per year in 2001 to 132 per year in 2002, and there had been 19 deaths since 2002 related to unintended acceleration in Toyotas, compared with 11 deaths connected to all other automakers combined. The story also notes Toyota has been investigated for unintended acceleration more times than any other automaker, and that 74 of 132 complaints lodged against the 2007 Lexus ES 350 were for cases of unintended acceleration. Toyota has no explanation, but says its drive-by-wire system is not to blame, again citing the November 2 NHTSA report. However, the Times notes that the agency has only investigated the drive-by-wire system twice in its nine investigations and Toyota had issued three separate service bulletins for 2002 and 2003 Camrys concerning unintended acceleration issues with the drive-by-wire system. The Times says NHTSA had asked Toyota to look into an issue with the electronic throttle body on the 2006 Camry, which Toyota immediately delegated to the parts supplier. When the supplier reported there was no problem, NHTSA accepted the finding and quietly closed the report, keeping most of its 74 pages confidential. 12. 'Damage Control'...a summary of recent events...& yes the recall looks like it will be expanded, but details are vague... http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/toyota-re...-disaster-city/
  13. Have a look at this Youtube video...have a look at the ES model at about 1:08 into it...
  14. article came up with an error.. The 02 06 es are not effected. My 04 es seems fine. Use weather tech mats in the winter and don't use the hooks stock mats. The 06 to 10 ES and IS are in the recall. This really bothers me. I hope Toyota makes it through this. Pontiac Vibe is effected to, but GM won't recall them. My 04 es is a great car. I'll keep buying Toyota, Lexus. Tim found the article, hard to say what happened with that ladies o4 ES. Hope Lexus is looking into this. Tim Yeah, I re-posted it...not sure why the error came up to begin with. But it is a fair question based on that article.
  15. Based on this, I am wondering if the previous generation (2002 - 2006) ES 300's & 330's are also effected by either the floor mat issue or the accelerator....or both...? Please read the whole article & post your thoughts. http://www.sandiego6.com/mostpopular/story...IuxTtxrK4Q.cspx
  16. Okay, does anyone have any additional information on the accelerator pedal issue? I ask because of this article...and it mentions the 2002 - 2004+ Lexus ES 300's & 330's... http://www.sandiego6.com/mostpopular/story...IuxTtxrK4Q.cspx This whole family was killed...and he was a CHP officer. I'm starting to get a little confused if the problem lies with the floor mat or the accelerator pedal...or both...? My gut is telling me that this recall isn't quite over yet...
  17. Using Amsoil 0W 30 synthetic & Amsoil EAO oil filters. & I get fantastic fuel economy & engine protection. More info here... http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/sso.aspx http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/eao.aspx
  18. On the highway, I can squeeze out 500 miles (800 Km's) out of a tank in my 05 ES....did the same with my previous 2001....that's going consistantly 65 - 70 mp/h in good weather conditions (no heat or air on). On average (mix of city & highway) I regularly get 350 - 380 miles per tank...on regular 87 fuel. The computer on the dash tells me after a fill up that I can go between 530 - 555 Km's (330 - 345 miles) but I always get more than that...and hardly ever see the fuel light come on. Perhaps Lexus programs the computer more on the conservative side so people don't run out of fuel or risk running out?
  19. More on the accelerator pedal recall with a Youtube video... http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/toyota%e2...ences%e2%80%9d/

  21. And as I type this...Breaking News on CNN...Toyota halts sales (new & used) on 8 popular models... :( I really like the new styling of the new Taurus nc...I agree with you...I was almost drooling over the new SHO too! B) AWD, 365 HP....two big beefs though....it's 'portly' at well over 4,000 lbs for the SHO model....and I'll be damned if I pay that kind of coin for a Ford...it's over $50,000 Canadian! Ford must be S%&tting me! :chairshot: I'm gonna check it out at the Canadian Int Auto Show next month...& I'll get Ford to give me a list of SHO owners who only go to the grocery stores...that are over 60 years of age...and find out when they are gonna trade em in! When it comes to cars like that, I love depreciation.
  22. Maybe Toyota / Lexus should flip the bill for a set of Weathertech 'all weather' mats for owners.
  23. I've been the owner of 2 Lexus ES's & hold them in very high regard with being an overall satisfied owner & I definately have the 2010 ES on my short list for my next vehicle purchase in 2012. This article however (directed more towards the Toyota brand over Lexus mind you) does bring up some fair points I feel looking back over several generations of models (SW you have been mentioning the interior quality being lower in current generation ES compared to our generation for example)... Considering that Toyota is taking it on the chin bigtime as of late, is Toyota losing (or has lost) their way...? http://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/hammer-ti...toyota-reality/
