  1. Not 100% sure about Canadian 97 - 99 ES models.....but the 97 - 99 ES in the U.S. came standard with 15" wheels & tires (205 65 15) with optional 16" wheel & tire package (in the 205 60 16 size from the factory) so I assume the Canadian ES models are simular. I know all 2000 & 2001 Canadian ES came with just the 16 wheels & tires but as I said....not 100% sure of years 97 - 99. B) Mighty, your stock wheels should be the 205 60 16 size, so check tirerack for all optional wheel & tire size upgrades. :)
  2. I changed the oil on my brand new Maxima back in the day with 1,000 miles (1,600 Kms).......Probobly didn't need it, but I just figured I dropped that kind of cash on a brand new vehicle & just in case any 'metal particles or shavings' were caught in the oil filter during the 'break in' period. I figure what's $20+ or so for an oil change just in case for peace of mind? Just my 2 cents. B)
  3. Best of luck Palacie! :) Happy Thanksgiving!! You should be fine tomorrow. ;)
  4. I can't help but think how much business this Toyota dealer is loosing with their attitude towards Lexus for simple maintenance Not to mention the bad taste it leaves in the mouths of customers......because word of mouth spreads like wildfire! :whistles: Sound like this dealer is operated by a bunch of "Gilligan's" & "Stumblebum's" :chairshot:
  5. I had a 2001 Nissan Maxima SE I bought new & I can say honestly that is was a great car......having said that, I was not impressed with Nissan service departments (I went to 4 different dealers & 3 of them were Nissan / Infiniti dealers). To get any ligit warranty work performed, they would give te customer a hard time till the point you were almost begging the dealer to fix the problem! :chairshot: I wouldn't purchase another Nissan or Infiniti product for that very reason again........plus it bug's me that the G35x isn't a full time AWD system to boot! The new GS will be however!! :D B)
  6. Exactly! But the so called 'factory trained tech's" at a this Toyota dealer can't do perform a basic oil change on a Lexus! :whistles: Whatever. One of the stupidist things I've heard in weeks.
  7. Double check everything in the morning with daylight......check for leaks under the car as well. Why not take a 10 - 15 min drive in your neighborhood so your still close to home.....park the car back in your driveway & pop the hood......from what your describing I think you should be fine if everything checks out at that time. :)
  8. Why not try Sunoco Ultra 94 for a couple of tank full's? B) It's the best gas available up here in Canada at least.
  9. Does your owners manual specifically say what type of fluid the recommend lenore? If it's Toyota type IV fluid....I'd stick with that. I always do a complete 100% tranny fluid flush when servicing the transmission......never the drain & fill method. That way they can drop the pan & clean the screen mesh & replace the gasket at the same time. For piece of mind, I'm much more comfortable knowing that I have all fresh fluid in the tranny.....especially with our extreme cold temps in Canada during the winter. Just my 2 cents. B)
  10. Agreed.....I don't think you would be getting any kind of odor from the bearings being dry......just some noise. You can check to see the coolant tank level even before starting the car (it has marking for both hot & cold levels). You should be fine if it's at the "full cold" level.....I'm just wondering with the work you had done if the shop spilled a little something on the engine & it's just burning off when the engine is hot which is te cause of the smell. As an example, I just had my car rust-proofed again & the detail shop also washed the engine.....when I was driving home after picking the car up, I had a slight smell & steam because of the residue from the soap & some overspray of the rust proofing from under the hood. It went away after a couple days.......my point is perhaps the shop sprayed some kind of lubricant on the pullies when they installed the new timing belt & the residue is the cause of the smell.
  11. lol 92Lex I'm not 100% sure to be honest if you can get 'upgraded' cup holders :( Perhaps call the parts dept at a couple Lexus dealers & ask them if there is more than one choice. I doubt you will be able to get any kind of aftermarket product.
  12. Major service might be one thing (even though most main mechanicals are the same as the Camry), but when they refuse to do a simple oil change?? I think that's shameful! :chairshot:
  13. Agreed.....check all your fluids before you go out. You mentioned the smell you notice is stronger......do you see any kind of smoke coming from under the hood area when your car is warmed up to operating temperature?
  14. Agreed.....I think the spoiler you guy's have choosen look sharp! B)
  15. I've heard the next gen IS will have AWD as an option? I read that in Motortrend a while back. It's going to be larger in size too. B)
  16. Agreed.....I'm suprised the ES in among the cars in the group.....G35 is RWD (unless one get's the G35x) so out of that group, I think I'd take the Avalon first followed by the TL.......if the ES was on the list, it would have been my first choice.....naturally. B) ;)
  17. Sounds like a pretty decent deal.....& sw is correct about the redesign info. B)
  18. If I ever encounter a dealership that has the 'reguar brand' (let's say Toyota) & the 'Luxury brand' that has models very close to them (Lexus of course) & they would do regular maintenance on my wife's car (Toyota) & not mine.......I'll fire a very well written letter off to the dealer principal, service manager of the dealership & head office of both divisions (in Canada that's the same building 10 mins from me) & Newspapers... telling them how much business they have lost from my wife & I, friends & family.......future children & down the line we go (I could go for about another hour with examples but you get the idea) :P This would be over a lousy oil & filter change of all things!! :chairshot: Oh yeah.......I'd have the service advisor's job too & tell him very calmly that.......you don't work on Toyota or Lexus anymore period! They probobly would have wished they changed my oil then huh? :P ;)
  19. Agreed, in addition to that you might want to check outwww.autotrader.com & check local listings to see what other simular LS are selling for in & around your area. B)
  20. I think this posting should be moved to the LX 470, 450 forums. :) Welcome aboard lee. B)
  21. That's strange bart, I haven't heard of any problems with people who want to move to the super long life coolant.......product states that it is in fact safe to use & is compatible with previous Toyota Engine coolants..... Jacob, I would agree with bart however to get a good shop (perhaps a Lexus / Toyota dealer if the price is reasonable) to get the cooling system flushed & check with a couple of Lexus dealers to see if the super long life stuff is safe to use with your specific model & year Lexus. The good thing with the super long life stuff is it is already 'pre-mixed' with distilled water in a 55% coolant - 45% distilled water mixture so chances are you only need 2+ jugs of it. B) I'll be switching to the pink stuff next time I'm do for a coolant change as I have just the regular 'long life' (red) stuff in there now. :)
  22. Perhaps an autowrecker or salvage yard is a good place to check if have not been able to find one yet. B)
  23. Can you clairify what you mean by "replacements"? Are you looking for the exact same ones that might have broken or "upgraded" cup holders?
  24. Agreed! B) If it does weep oil......perhaps even consider fixing the problem if it's not too costly & stick with the synthetic.
  25. How much is the shop(s) going to charge you to do the engine cooant flush? Also, I would consider getting the new Toyota "Super long life engine coolant / antifreeze" which is pink in colour as opposed to the "long life" which is red......it suppose to last much longer than the red stuff........should be available at every Toyota & Lexus dealer so check both for price. :)
