  1. do you have a regular mechanic you deal with that can have a look at it sofresh?
  2. I didn't like the fact the X-type has a smallish fuel tank considering it has AWD. I have a larger tank on my ES & it's lighter to boot! Styling on the X-type looks nice IMO.....not breath taking, but not bad either. I totally agree about the resale value as well. B) Ive seen thosespy shots 1990LS......the new Avalon is going to have something like 270 HP so I'm looking forward to seeing it without that black coat. ;)
  3. If you can live with it for the time being untill you have the funds go for it. As a rule of thumb, I always get a 4 wheel alignment when I get a new set of tires. It is possible that they could need a re-balancing (I had to go back to my tire guy when I put my Michelin Pilot Sport A/S tire on.....they put the weights that sit on the lip of the rims instead of the adheisive weights that 'hide' behind the rim spokes which look 100% better). Keep us posted & don't forget to check to make sure all 4 tires are the correct air pressure. B)
  4. Make sure you use the correct tranny fluid.....I believe it's Toyota Type IV fluid & nothing else.....double check your owners manual. B)
  5. How about a chairshot Brad? :chairshot: ;) B)
  6. If memory serves, that's the same oil filter I use in my 01 ES. Your best bet is to e-mail Mobil1 (www.mobil1.com) & ask them the same question or cross reference the filter with the correct Toyota oil filter. B)
  7. A question one should ask Toyota head office perhaps to know exactly what 'ingredients' are in that specific fluid. :D
  8. Parts I would replace as a 'preventitive maintenance' (also known as a major tune up & other fluid changes) measure would be: - Spark plugs (check your owners manual for the type your 91 LS requires & you may also be able to upgrade to say Iridium plugs & make sure they are gapped correctly). - Spark Plug wires (if so equipped) - Fuel Filter - PCV valve - Air filter (consider getting a reusable K & N air filter) - Consider doing a transmission tune up which involves either a drain & fill (only about 30% of the fluid is drained this way) OR you can find a shop that has the flushing machine that can change 100% of your fluid......check with your owners manual or Lexus dealer & make sure you use the correct type of tranny fluid. - Throttle body cleaning - power steering fluid flush (many Japanese cars use automatic transmission fluid for the power steering fluid......my 01 ES calls for ATF so again, look at your manual). - Brake fluid flush - Engine coolant flush (Toyota / Lexus has a new 'pink' super long life coolant now so find out if it's compatable with your LS). B) Good Luck!
  9. I didn't know Toyota Type IV had synthetic additives either. Good to know I guess......how low does it flow in the cold? It's MUCH colder for a longer period in Alberta than say the Toronto area right daffy? :) What year is your LS? I changed the tranny fluid in my Maxima to Mobil 1 synthetic & never had a problem sk......I wouldn't do it in the Lexus mind you. ;)
  10. Thanks for the link amf. :) Not intrested really from what I have read. It's a gimmic mxl, what wrong with the new formulation of Mobil 1 with their tri-synthetic formula? You've lost me You would think that if a popular oil company 'modifies' their best selling synthetic oil that it's a much better product than what it replaces wouldn't you? Please explain your views. B)
  11. noddy, I replied to your other posting that asks to suggest a Lexus dealer in Toronto. Have a look there & welcome to the club! Nice to see more Canadians (and fellow Torontonian's to boot!) :D Welcome to you as well Imran! Post pic's of your baby when you can. Call the parts department as a few Lexus dealers for the shift knob. What dealer did you purchase your new ES from?
  12. What part of Toronto are you from noddy? (I'm in north east Scarborough). I bought my 01 ES last January at Lexus of Richmond Hill on Younge St. (www.lexusrh.com) which is owned by the Don Valley North Group which also ownes Don Valley North Lexus Toyota (www.dvnlt.com). If it's a brand new 05 ES were talking about here (the base model or 'special edition' as Lexus Canada calls it for $39,900) remember that EVERY dealership pays the EXACT same price for their cars.....it comes down to which dealer is willing to take the most off the asking price to get your business. This is the case for most cars.......I do not know for 100% how it works on a Lexus as they don't sell as many units as say Toyota so I don't know hw much they 'discount' on new ones. Your best bet is too make a few calls to some Lexus dealers & 'feel them out'. Do me a favour & let me know what they say & the amount (if any) they are willing to discount. I don't think it's going to be thousands of dollars mind you as they hold their value well compared to other luxury brands. Good Luck & keep us posted. B)
  13. The front strut tower bar (or brace as some call it) is one of the best & least expensive suspension mods you can do.......it's a wise first mod. I can't get one on my 01 ES as it's got the factory AVS (adjustable variable suspension) so it's got steel caps & electronic wires coming from the strut towers. You can do a search on here for places to get the bar. :) I souldn't worry about trimming the weight of the car......keep everything that is needed & make sure junk dosen't collect in the car overtime. B)
  14. Did you have your ES towed col?
  15. ok, I won't tell you. You will just have to look under my hood in May. :whistles: steviej (The 02-05 ES oil filters are in the same place ) ← Is that a 'hint' that I should be purchasing Blue Jay's / Red Sox ticket's some time soon steviej? :whistles: :) So oil filter is in the same location on the current gen ES eh? ;)
  16. My wife's kind of leaning to get a 6 cyl next time although she loves the Matrix. Were not minivan folks, not do we want to have the heavy fuel expense of an SUV. I think were going to test drive a 2005 Mazda 6 Sport Wagon as it's practical with loads of cargo space (for kids & their stuff down the road) even more than many compact & mid-size SUV's actually I like Mazda's 3 year or 50,000 mile (80,000 kms) warranty which is 14,000 miles more than what's average these days. The 2005 has a new 6 speed Automatic transmission as well, along with the 220 HP V6. :)
  17. Let's wait & see what her mechanic has to say about things. B)
  18. I bought the part & had my mechanic change it, I'm not sure if it's in the same location as my 01. It's suppose to be kind of a plug & play kind of thing....from what I've heard at least anyways. B)
  19. I've personally never heard of this product What's the website? B)
  20. Sounds much like the 'minor' problems I was having with Nissan during the 2 1/2 years I owned my 01 Maxima :chairshot: I was on my 4th dealer before I found the ES. B) I do take my ES to an independent mechanic for basic maintenance, I was just commenting on the fact that my wife is intrested in one of several cars when her lease is do (Toyota Matrix is one of them, as is the Mazda 6 Sport Wagon) & if they would do her oil changes at the Toyota dealer & refused to do mine.......it would be the last time she would ever go there simply because the ES is so close to the Camry in it's mechanicals. Lucky for us, there are quite a few Lexus/Toyota dealers that sell & service BOTH brands. B)
  21. Keep us posted......you should be fine driving that distance to take it back in. Good Luck! B)
  22. I've thought about it......I'm just worried that (knock on wood) if something were to happen when of course I did the oil change (use to do all oil changes on my old Oldamobile 88, Buick Riviera & still do on my dads 90 Buick Park Avenue & never a problem) & all I could provide is the reciepts of the oil & filter purchased.....they would refuse any major engine repair or something stupid. :whistles: Does anybody know where the location of the ES 330's (04 & 05) oil filter is located? Tell me it's not in the same place as the 97 - 01 models? :(
  23. Agreed! I thought the LS sounded great in the video clip as well. B) Keep in mind that when a car company give a 0 - 60 time, it under 'ideal' conditions which includes the best roads, weather & other factors in getting the lowest time possible. Always read the 'fine print' of vehicle testing to get a better idea how it was tested & where (many are tested inside under controlled conditions & results vary in the 'real world'). :)
