  1. Alan, Did I hear you right? He also fixed the partially burnt out needles? Michael
  2. 93LSOwner, I found this while shopping at lexus-parts.com. I think it was also mentioned in a previous post. http://www.daizensporttuning.com/products/...m_bushings.html Michael
  3. This is for a '92. It should be the same for a '94. TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS TABLE Application Ft. Lbs. (N.m) Intake Manifold Bolt/Nut ......................... 13 (18)
  4. I have a '93 with the phone still in it. No service but I keep it there since they said that you can at least use it to dial 911 in an emergency. Once in a while I will press the buttons and hear the beeps throught the sound system and wish, oh I wish that I can plug my cell phone to it. A diagram of the wiring for the Lexus phone system should at least get us going with an interface for newer phones. Where do we send the beer? Michael
  5. 93LSowner, There has been previous posts regarding this outdated keyless entry system on the '93 LS. I have a '93 with only 1 remote and I am considering the following options: 1. Buy OEM from http://www.lexustoyotamitsubishiparts.com. Their Two Key Chip and Key Set is cheaper than lexus-parts.com. 2. Buy an after market keyless entry system like this one. Stay away from '90-'94 LS keys from ebay. These keys only work if you have the matching ROM chip that goes in the trunk. Sorry, they are not programmable. This is a great car. I hope these little things do not keep you from enjoying it. Regards, Michael
  6. Steve, Yeah, I just didn't see the need to argue with him about that since the car just came with it. It's still nice to know that it's there. Michael
  7. My '93 came with those LEDs (green/orange in the center and 2 red ones beside it) on the instrument cluster and reflects off the gauges like the hand brake lights. At first I thought it was an aftermarket alarm until the seller informed me that it was a 'factory installed' radar detector - then the beeps started making sense. It works but I turn it off when I'm in San Francisco or in a shopping district since those motion sensors on the automatic doors can set it off from across the street. I don't have a manual and I have not been under that side of the dash to find the unit. Michael
  8. I thought this repair manual on CD was useless. I found this in it, I hope it helps if you want to check the lower ball joint yourself. BALL JOINT CHECKING Upper Ball Joint Clamp ball joint in vise. Move stud back and forth 5 times through its entire range. Install nut. Using INCH-lb. torque wrench, turn stud at rate of 2-4 seconds per turn. Measure turning torque on fifth turn. Replace ball joint if turning torque is not 9-30 INCH lbs. (1.0-3.4 N.m). Lower Ball Joint (LS400) 1) Raise vehicle. Place 8" wooden block under one front tire. Ensure wheels are positioned straight-ahead. Lower vehicle until approximately 1/2 of wheel load exists on one coil spring. Place jackstands under vehicle. 2) Move lower arm up and down. Measure ball joint vertical play. If play exceeds .012" (.3 mm), replace ball joint. See LOWER CONTROL ARM & BALL JOINT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. (How do you measure 0.3mm!!!???) Michael
  9. VMF, Yes, I was going to do that, then I read this post and thought it might be a better way to do it. I'm off to get an extension hose. Thanks, Michael
  10. 1993 LS400 No traction control, no air suspension, no height control. Nakamichi sound system 2nd owner $7,450. Bought it on Ebay on Oct-25-2003. Shipped from Houston, TX to Hayward, CA using DAS. 102,000 miles at time of delivery. Started driving it on Nov, 2003. Here's her story. 1. Passed CA smog/emmision test. (Whew!) $80 2. Paid Oakland Coliseum Lexus $180 for a safety inspection. They recommended about $7,000 worth of work which includes replacing the timing belt, "torn" CV boots (I don't think so), etc., etc. 3. Successfully registered and titled vehicle with CA DMV after receiving Texas issued title from seller. $800. 4. Removed window tint - DIY. $0. 5. Fixed defective door speakers - DIY. $38 on Ebay for 2 pairs of 4" Polk GXR4 2-way speakers. Sub and tweeters are still working. 6. Flush transmission fluid - tried 2 qt of Chevron Dexron III even after reading the posts to use Type-IV. I still have that very mild rumbling at low acceleration. I will flush again using Type-IV. 7. Flush power steering fluid - will DIY. Still reading the posts for a good way to flush it. 8. Bought hood struts from Ebay. $70. Buy the one from Pepboys instead. 9. Bought a "Lexus Repair manual on CD" from Ebay. $15. It's better to get a Chilton or original Lexus manual. 10. Bought key blanks from Ebay. They work but don't buy if you want a key blank that has the real logo on it. 11. Intrument cluster - has the famous fuel gauge problem. Light flickering problem started today since it has been unusually cold the last 2 days - will try DIY or send to Jim Walker. Tachometer and speedometer used to work intermittently in the beginning but is now working fine . 12. Grey leather is perfect (except for minor cracks on steering wheel cover) and conditioned using Meguiar's leather conditioner. 13. Cleaned a/c filter. 14. No mods on this car. I might go for the Daizen Polyurethane Bushings. 15. Replaced burnt interior lamps (even the one IN the rear ashtrays, what a car!). Many thanks to the members of this forum for providing technical information and inspiration thereby making it possible to get the work done. "Please only post once and if you have a question either pm the member or make a new thread . This will keep the page from being filled with excess. "
  11. This is getting intersting. I was going to try mig25's way of flushing the power steering fluid but if the fluid drains after taking off the solenoid screen would that be a good way to flush the system? Michael
  12. Sebastor, Go for the JBL P432 for better frequency range and power handling. It's also better than the Polk GXR4 speakers that I installed and they already sound great! Remember that the stock speakers are actually 4-1/2 inches so the holes on a 4 inch speaker is off by a few mm. This was my problem with the Polk GXR4. I had to open the holes so I can install all 4 screws properly (see attachment). You shouldn't have this problem with the JBL P432 since the holes are open. Mike
  13. Bob, You can find him here: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...&category=46100 or you can email him direct: jimlwalker@sbcglobal.net Mike
  14. 1. (From a previous post which I can't remember) I believe it does... if you change all the caps listed in the previous post. 2. Read pinned post on "Replacing Burnt Out Needles In Instrument Panel" or click here: (thanks to Jim Walker) http://www.lexusownersclub.com/Lexus_Circu...ard_Removal.pdf 3. Sorry, I don't have the pioneer unit on mine, but I don't think you have to worry about the code if you disconnect the battery first. If you're lucky, the previous owner probably didn't set the code on it. 4. (Thanks to ukamath of Club Lexus) http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread...12&pagenumber=6 Take heed of tansupplyman's post: "Remember .. that you need to disconnect the battery before you start removing stuff .. and wait a couple of minutes ... I made the mistake of not doing this and my Airbag warning light would not go out ..." If you forget...there's also a thread on the fix...sounds like fun.
  15. If you are not very skilled with a soldering iron then the cheaper alternative to going to the dealer would be: 1. take the instrument cluster out (we have instructions for that if needed) and ship it to: Electronics Master Repairs Lexus Department 2131 Pleasant Hill Road Suite 135 Duluth, Georgia 30096-2303 Here's their curent offer on ebay. A few members have used this service. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...gory=46100&rd=1 2. take the instrument cluster out and ship the circuit boards to Jim Walker. He is a member of this forum and his service is reliable. Here is his current offer on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...item=2448271736
  16. jbsmithsa, You're welcome. Happy to be able to give back to this site.
  17. I have a '93. If you have a '90-'94 then it'll take more than 2 bolts to get to it. Take off all the bolts and screws that attach the plastic cover under the engine then you will see the filter. I didn't even have to jack up the car.
  18. Steve, Thanks. I'll just get a pair of new rotors. Take wheel off, take caliper off, remove screw take out rotor, put new one in, push out brake pads and put ebverything back. I think it's that simple...
  19. I noticed the same thing but it only does it when gently braking at 40+ mph. and it feels like it's coming from the front. No shakes when I slam on the brakes. I've been hoping it would go away if I get the wheels balanced but after reading this thread I am now concerned it might be something else. (I have'nt had the chance to get the wheels balanced.) Is there a way to determine if the shaking is caused by: 1. wheels that need to be balanced. 2. rotors that need to be resurfaced. 3. warped rotors. My pads are at 50% per Lexus dealer. I think it's at 25% when I peeked at it after taking the wheels off to examine the suspensions.
  20. What year is your LS and how many miles do you have on it? The experts in this forum would probably need that in order to help you out. :)
  21. In case you are out of options you can try using clay on it. After seeing what it does to the paint I tried it on the windshield and it worked. It does take a lot more work to do.
  22. My '91 Acura Integra was doing the same after 8 years. It turned out to be a hairline crack on the plastic top section of the radiator. I didn't catch it until I topped it off, drove for about 15 minutes and lifted the hood. Steam was coming out of the crack. I bought a kit from Acura (seems like a common problem) which consisted of a new plastic top section only. I took some work taking the radiator out and taking the top off and replacing that section but I didn't have to buy a new radiator. Lexus is definitely built better but it's probably worth checking.
  23. jimH93, You can do a search using "timing belt" and find a lot of very interesting and useful posts. Refine your search to include "any date" otherwise it defaults to posts during the last 30 days only. Here's a few: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...&hl=timing+belt http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...=4&t=2392&st=0& I believe it was VMF who replaced his timing belt by himself and also posted pictures of it. Very inspirational. Too bad I can't find that post, seems like it disappeared when the server crashed.
  24. 3 complaints in 3 months - not good. It seems that her membership has been cancelled or it's been suspended from trading on eBay. Good. Yes, there are crooks out there but there are also good deals and good sellers. I've bought a lot of stuff from ebay which includes my '93 LS400 and so far I have not been ripped off.
