  1. Interesting logic Lucky 13. For your reading pleasure : http://chemistry.about.com/gi/dynamic/offs....com/octane.htm Old argument, old article really. Google "too high octane" and you'll also find lots of good reading. Addage : if a little is good, a lot must be better, right?
  2. Simple answer...no it's not worth it and can actually do harm. Just put in what the folks who designed the engine say to put in it and you'll be fine if you keeping your car for a week or a thousand weeks!
  3. FWIW, the alignment/tire wear issue was one of the reasons my wife traded in her 07 for an 09. Only had 24K on it, but you could see the beginnings of some very odd tire wear. Tire rotation was done every 5K, and yet the inside tread of every tire had an unusual inside tread wear. We'll see what the 09 will do, but with all the folks having similar issues, there is something up with the tire wear/alignment on the IS.
  4. Boy, they are TOTALLY different cars, for one. As for maintainence costs...4 vs 6 cylinder, for one, the four should cost less. IS is a much heavier car, so it will probably go through brakes/tires faster too. Just my initial thoughts anyway. I think the IS would be substantially more to maintain, but I could be wrong.
  5. Hmmm...I think that's an excellent question, and I'd love to hear the answer! And I'm betting SOMEONE on here must have a pretty good answer. Unfortunately, it's not me...but I'm listening!
  6. The OP just can't seem to help himself. That and his youthful exuberance takes over. I don't have the advantage of being able to see his IP, but his wonderful qualities are quite manifest. In any case, he is who he is. I suppose there are worst qualities than trying to stir things up, but I think there could be more useful things to do with one's time. Odd what makes some people happy. I'm going to go admire my tint now :) I think IT looks TIGHT man!
  7. Oh, thought it was a quiz for us, a riddle maybe? WHATEVER they did, let us know!!! Yeah, I could use another 6 to 8 mpg! Of course that would put me in the mid 30's, which is kind of unrealistic. Do tell though!!!
  8. Apparently I have a "!Removed!" 18% tint, smokey graniite IS, and it has the "lame" 250 on the back still. Guess I don't rate with Ris, but frankly, I don't get on a car enthustiast forum to ask "if I should get tint". Grow some balls dude and do whatever you want! It's your car and your money.
  9. We had an 07 IS 250 AWD and now have an 09 IS 250 AWD. O7 had Dunlop SP Sport 5000's. The 09 has Bridgestone Potenza RE 92's. Here's what tire rack has to say about both tires : http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...00+Asymmetrical http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?ti...el=Potenza+RE92 Try as I may, I see nothing about the tires being "run flats". Either I'm missing something or you have been duped. And if you have been duped, someone needs to inform the "duper" that he is giving out mis-information. Whether it's intentional or not is debateable, but he needs to speak the truth! As for the OP, yeah, low profile tires suck in heavily pot hole infested roads. Not sure what Lexus can do for you :(
  10. So we recently traded in our 07 IS250 AWD for an 09 IS 250 AWD. I am almost certain shortly after we got it I read a thread on these forums about programming the fob so that as you walk up to the car all the doors unlock. I did it to our 07 and we were very pleased to be able to do that...now I can't remember how to do it and I can't find the thread...anyone help me with this? BTW, she's in getting 18% tint all the way around as I right this...kind of excited. Although the 07 had it too....
  11. Was chatting with a guy who has a Volvo S60R AWD...he was complimenting me on our new IS 250 AWD, I was complimenting him on his car as well...i chose to not ask for a race ;)
  12. FWIW, we now have an 09 IS 250 AWD. We've had it for a week, but haven't driven it much. Next week will be it's turn to take us to work....we'll see if the 09's still have the infamous dash pop.
  13. I'm thinking sabatoge or a rodent ate through your power steering pump hoses or something like that....no way this just "happens".... Let us know what you find out!!! Car is still under warranty, yes?
  14. So was I mistaken in thinking with an AWD you had to replace ALL the tires if something like this happened? Something about the circumference having to be exactly the same or you could cause problems with your drive train? I've gone through the owners manual and can't find anything that states that....I guess I stand corrected? BTW, yeah, don't ever mix tires. Car will totally handle differently, unpredictably.
  15. FWIW, my wife just traded her 07 IS 250 AWD in for an 09 yesterday. Got an amazing deal. I think at least up here in the NW dealers are very willing to make deals, probably similar throughout the country now. Haven't put the new stereo through its paces yet, neither car has the ML system, but the stock system is very adequate. New car has the ipod interface, which is cool, but even the old aux. jack in the console worked very well. With the ipod interface, we can charge the ipod and use the stereo controls to work the ipod. We have a Garmin and are quite happy with it. Just doesn't seem like the nav is worth the cost. Took the Garmin up to the Canadian Okanogan for some wine tasting last November, and I was amazed how it even had wineries listed and took us right to them, even in fairly remote areas.
  16. Ugh. Why do I read ANYTHING started by the OP? Just by a REAL fast car and be done with it. Maybe a Nissan GT-R will suit you? Or will you want to debadge it too? Trouble with the "R" maybe? The truth seeker is on to a scandal all right! Save us truth seeker!!!
  17. Just couldn't get myself to take the IS to Jiffy Lube or any place like that. An excellent "how to" on these threads on the oil change. It's really pretty easy, easier than my Subaru. Or take it to a mechanic you can trust. But not Jiffy Lube...my .02.
  18. And how many old Ford Taureses do you still see on the road? A plain and boring car, yes, but many are still out there going strong.
  19. I can understand the ECU learning how you drive and resetting might give you tad bit of hp. But I'd be willing to bet you could not tell the difference. Maybe the dyno will show a small gain, but you will not feel any significant increase in hp. The most helpful and accurate information for the OP is, just keep your car maintained according to your manual. That will optimize the cars performance w/o any "modifications". Having said that, and having read numerous posts from the OP, I think you really are not pleased with the IS250's performance and are longing for something with a bit more pep. It's not that unusual. The 250 just isn't a fast car plain and simple. And you aren't going to make it a fast car, plain and simple. Many of us who drive one are happy with them. They do what they are advertised to do, and we love them. But we didn't buy them for their exhilirating performance characteristics. I'm afraid that's what the OP is after here.
  20. I'm thinking through the sunroof? I ALWAYS hit the knob when I climb in that way. Very poor design. And sometimes, when I'm running to get in the car, although this requires the door to be open first. If you have just a tad too much speed, the knob acts as a stop so you don't slide across the dash. It should be bigger and more solid though. Knee pads help using this approach. In reality, I have tried and tried, and still can't visualize this, so we need the four or five pics, or a youtube link ;)
  21. I remember my first AUTO-REWIND cassette deck....yeah baby, that thing was awesome. It had the FF to next song feature. Dunno about the ML system, other than it's mind blowing with a 5.1 disc. Just got the plain one in ours (only 13 speakers), and I think it is very adequate.
  22. In case you didn't know, in some car forums POS kinda stands for something rather negative....
  23. An acquired taste, no doubt. Not sure you'll see too many cars like that on the track. Functionality not the objective. Bling, show, yes. On the road, pushing the car to it's limits on the track, not gonna work. But hey, anyone who is an enthusiast has got to appreciate what you are doing.
