  1. Update : dealer says that Lexus is working on a solution for this problem on the 09, and that at this time they don't have a fix. Thats nice...I'll just keep the sunroof closed so I can use the rearview mirror. I think you could say the perfection Lexus is pursuing is rather elusive. Also a huge drop in the quality of sound using the iPod interface, either with the fancy one in the glovebox or the aux one in the armrest. Both are terribly poor. This is after being totally impressed with the one in our 07 IS. Dealer says they can't find anything wrong whatsoever. No, it's not the ML, but in our 07, the sound was quite sufficient. In the 09, not so much. Supposedly the exact same unit and speakers. Maybe so, but the sound is not exact. And yes, i've tried every possible setting. Some are better than others, but nothing close to the sound in the 07.
  2. OK...you hear a "motor sound"? I've never heard of such a thing, especially after you stop. RPMs at idle the whole time? I'm stumped. Which isn't really to hard to do.
  3. ABS can sound disconcerting the first time you hear it. Totally normal tho....every car I've had with ABS will make that noise.
  4. The new battery may or may not help. Same thing happens with ours, and has from day one. As for the engine shutting off....is it warmed up at all when it does this or is it cold. I'm just guessing that maybe if it was warmed up just a tad it might not stall?
  5. I have noticed that the deflector that pops up when the sunroof slides back may be the source of this vibration. If you just put your hand against it, it stops. In any case, taking the IS in for its first oil change. We'll see what they can do for us. Might have to just keep the mirror and change the car out for an IS-F...:)
  6. Seems to me like plugs are way over-hyped. No way a plug by itself will do anything "extra" for your car. Just use OEM, quality stuff. Of course you don't want to skimp and buy cheap, but OEM should be fine. I could tell you when they need to be replaced, but I won't. "give a man a fish...." yadda yadda....
  7. Only when the sunroof is open... yours is shaking with it closed? I am amazed that this even happens in this car. Will take it in at 5K for the first oil change and hopefully get it fixed. Totally unexpected in a car of this caliber. Can't even see the cars behind you...safety issue for sure...missin out on all this sun in Washington!
  8. FWIW the Kia does have a better warranty than the Lexus :) So does Ken Shaw Lexus do warranty repairs like Kia does? Probably not. 10 year 100K miles....how do they do that anyway?
  9. I see something just about every day on the road that could *BLEEP* me off to the point of it escalating. Just need to let it go. WAY easier said than done, of course. Deep breathing helps, and just remembering that it really isn't worth your energy, time, money, etc, to get too upset. And yeah, more power would really be nice to have at times, but there is always going to be someone out there with more. Saw an awesome IS-F, and an Aston Martin yesterday....we were stuck in traffic...power didnt do much for any of us then :)
  10. YIKES, that must have been a little disconcerting. Probably didn't break anything, but I'll make sure and not buy any used cars from you ;)
  11. Wow, first of all, congratulations! That must be quite a kick to drive your new 350! As for your exhaust sound and your reluctance to take it in...I'd at least mention it on the phone or when you take it in for its first oil change. I know it's not uncommon for high performance cars to have a little pop as they are decelerating.
  12. Well, one would think one would get more than 24K out of a clutch. I know of other Toyota products getting 150Kplus on a clutch. I'm pretty sure I could burn out a clutch on any car if I wanted, even a 250K car. It doesn't matter how much the car is worth. What matters mostly is your driving habits, I'm sorry to say. I know a co-worker with a $7995 Hyundai Accent and it has 120K miles on it. He actually drives it pretty hard too. Do you race your car? Do you sit on a hill and hold your car in place with your clutch? I hope not, or you have no case. If you are certain your driving habits in no way have contributed to the premature failure of your clutch, then state that in your hearing. Bring proof of some sort that you are in fact a competent driver. But whatever you do, your case will have much more credibility if in any documentation you bring, you use proper grammar and spelling. My opinion and mine only.
  13. OK, we cant keep up with Trina, but we are on our second IS. Love the cars. No, not perfect, rattles and all. But they are beautiful, perform well, handle nicely. The 250 has decent economy even! Sure there are things to complain about, but overall, great cars. New annoyance....the rearview mirror vibrates terribly when the sunroof is open! But she's all spiffed up and looking mahvelus, so I'll deal with it...
  14. Well, alloy doesn't bend back. Can you see the bend, or feel it? Most likely it' can't be repaired unless its very minor. If you are feeling a vibration from it, I'd say it isn't minor...my .02.
  15. Which is slightly cheaper than a new IS, if my math is correct... :P
  16. FWIW, have factory sat. radio in my Subaru. Rarely if ever drops out...XM.
  17. Sure Trina. I know how you fixed that problem ;) Congratulations BTW!!!
  18. What's the saying?....teach a man to fish... Google Amsoil New York. You'll find a dealer who is somewhat close to you I'm guessing. You can go there or have it shipped. The internet is a wonderful thing. You're high on the Amsoil huh?
  19. You can't replace them. You just have to get a new car. That's what we did. Well, unfortunatly we did it AFTER I just replaced the blades with new Bosch ICON's. We had an 07 IS250 and now have an 09. They are the same. Just a little tab you flip up, then slide the blade towards the open part of the U-shape. I'm guessing the nice folks at your local auto parts store would gladly show you how. If I were really industrious I'd post pics....
  20. That would be a tough call. We just got our second IS, an 09. We like them very much. But I know a couple of friends with A4's and they say they are great too. You can't be certain you won't have any issues with an A4, but I couldn't argue with someone wanting one. I think they are great cars, and no doubt will feel quite a bit faster. Let us know what you decide, and show pics!!!
  21. And I used to think it was only BMW drivers that were arrogant *BLEEP*s. Could we possibly respond to the OP's question with something like "well, you might want to reconsider, as perhaps you haven't thought about possibility X,Y, or Z..."? No we have to pile on and say just how stupid could you be to ask such a question. Amazing display of humanity. Nice job guys.
  22. Well, they must have a 45 minute minimum then. If you've changed the oil on an IS even a few times, you can do it in LESS than 1/2 an hour. Those who know better will go somewhere else. Those who don't won't. Profound, I know.
  23. "More premium gasoline"? "Rule of thumb"? Whose thumb, yours? So if it's good enough for the Nascar experts, you want it in your car too? Their engines have 750 HP. You don't have HALF that. Currently even the Nascar racing fuel is 98 octane. If you want to run anything more than 93, knock yourself out. Use your "butt-o-meter", or whatever works for you. I must respectfully disagee. And leave my Suburban out of it ;)
  24. Put simply, it sucks. The climate control in our old Volvo S40 worked much better. I have dual climate control in my Subaru Legacy. It works as well as the Lexus, which isn't saying much. You still have to turn it up or down some. It doesn't make or break the car being a nice car, but the climate control leaves much to be desired.
  25. I could be mistaken, but it often is used preceeding "of the piston". Thus it is referring to the "power stroke" of a four cycle/stroke engine?
