  1. i used to have this problem when i was going to mechanics.:) no1 cared that its a high mileage old car, when they hear word lexus they think ure a moneybag and try to squeeze as much as possible from you. dont do mechanics anymore:)
  2. thats a pretty good procedure:) ive used it on mine and my friends LS already:) it is described in the timing belt howtos around the forum many times, but thanks for refreshing our memory. he he
  3. hows that famous wiring harness in the trunk?
  4. i dont think its been documented here. but i would recommend signing with alldatadiy.com. to get access to factory repair manual.
  5. the only reason for you to resurface your rotors is if they are in a pretty bad shape and have groves on them or you overheated them and have deposits from the break pads that would cause vibrations when you push the break pedal. i personally do not resurface the rotors during every break pad change, there is no point and it shortens the rotors life significantly. the usual price to machine the rotor is 10$ per rotor.
  6. if you are talkin about the car manual, not a repair manual, if you register in lexus.com you are going to be able to access it in the electronic format.
  7. did you check the harness in the trunk?

    Bulbs

ive seen threads about this before, it a big pain to remove all the covers to get to those bulbs, but they can be replaced. i think you can just buy a new bulb and solder it yourself if you have enough skills. i might be wrong thought, you are better off searching the forum for this problem.:)
  9. cheaper repair manual can be found at http://alldatadiy.com/ for mere 27$ you can get annual subscription to exactly the same material that can be found in the toyota repair manual. i got alldata first but then bought all 3 repair manuals so i had a chance to compare the 2 before alldata subscription expired. alldata subscription is worth every penny:)
  10. yeah, my bad. thats what you get for working too hard:)
  11. these codes are no good, they are for the first gen LS, 2001 is 4th gen LS. actually i jut remembered, autozone does error code reading for free. and they even give you a print out of what the code means.
  12. dont call the dealer, take the car to independent mechanic and ask them to get the code. i would not trust the dealer coz he can give u any code u want, just to go mechanic and ask him to pull the code in front of you. they usually charge up to 30$ for the code checking and its worth spending them if you dont have to spend another grand on a repair you might not need. even if it is a cat, pulling out an oxygen sensor and cleaning it can solve the problem. dont rush into changing the cat. usually when cat is going, it collapses and u notice a degraded perfomance and if you look unde the car you can see malfunctioning cat glowing.
  13. ditto, i always use the park place and iron toad
  14. i got exactly same colors inside and outside:) minus chrome rims and nak audio. too bad they dont put them into newer ones:( but the mark levinson plus the navigation do they job just as well:)
  15. yes they do, but since ur lex is older then 95, you cant really connect obdII scanner to your car. you have to read the code manually. look at the tutorial in the link from the lexls site and to it yourself. its gonna save you 60$ u were about to spend on the trip to mechanic.:)
  16. hard to say, do you have check engine light on? define "transmission was stuck" did you feel loss of power? how is the temperature gauge?
  17. michelin pilot sport A/S, over 40k miles on them and still going strong. got plenty of thread left and no noise whatsoever.
  18. currently i got 225/50/17 rims with a 5 lug pattern, found nice chrome 235/50/18 rims from ls460 is it the same lug pattern?
  19. they are corner lights and they do have a bulb, very easy to take off and change. not sure why yours didnt come up, lets hope that the bulbs are bad.
  20. i would also check bushings first. and none of the parts u mentioned cost over a grand, even with install. i changed, bushings, shock absorbers and ball joints, all by myself and i spent lil less then a grand on all the parts.
  21. does the car overheat when you drive it on the highway? if yes, then it might be your thermostat or it might be your water pump, if no, then it might be your clutch indeed.
  22. upper ball joints are not sold separately, i think you have to get whole arm, this is why didnt changemine, they are 300$ a piece, you can check newlexusparts.com for the prices:) dont remember about the wipers.
  23. ls400 has only one belt on the outside of the engine. you can either buy it online or go to your local dealer to pick one up. it should be around 50$. i would not recoomend getting an aftermarket one.
  24. problem is that engine dies after highway driving and then coming to a stop, it is a know problem and there is a recall on that, as mentioned before, majority of 95 LS develop this some time in their lives. just like suggested previously, contact the dealer and arrange an ECU swap, if i remember correctly that what has to be done. make sure you dont agree to any "extra" services from the dealer:) since they are not going to be free:)
  25. i activated mine back in 2005 and it was fine, no hold wait, spoke with live person. had to call back in a week, and got a live person again. may b lately they are cutting back on losses due to enormous salary of mr howard stern:)
