  1. Here is a link to owners manuals for Genie openers: http://www.geniecompany.com/GenieCompany.aspx?cid=322 Everything I'm reading says that Genie Intellicode garage door openers have a button on the motor housing. The "learn" button on some garage door openers (I've installed a lot of them) are not obvious -- I've seen some that look like a little diode and not like a button at all. You might need to clear the Homelink in your Lexus before starting -- instructions should be in your IS250 owners manual. Timing is everything when programming these things -- I've programmed a number of garage door opener remotes including ones built in to cars, including my Lexus, and it sometimes takes me a couple of tries to get it work.
  2. Here is a thread that has a couple of links to other threads on fixing the twisted seat back: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...&hl=twisted Like I said in one of the threads, it must be an easy fix since an indie repair shop fixed the twisted seat back on the 90 LS I used to have and they didn't charge me much.
  3. is that fuse 31 or a relay /circuit breaker ? I have to give the car in for some repairs and the seat settings are always tampered with whenever i leave the car at the mechanics.... People of various sizes and shapes such (e.g. porters, mechanics. clean up crew) may have to drive your car when you take it to a repair shop. Disabling your seat adjustments could make your car difficult, impossible or even dangerous for others to drive. If I were to make the drivers seat of our LS400 fixed in place for my wife, our mechanic Fred wouldn't begin to fit behind the wheel to test drive the car on the highway like he sometimes has to do -- he's too tall and has had too many burgers! Can't you just readjust your seat instead of taking the "nuclear" approach?
  4. This tutorial shows how to remove the ashtray on a 90-94 LS400: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/audio/headunit.html Does the car happen to have any add-on devices hardwired into the cig lighter circuit that could be overloading the circuit and blowing the fuse?
  5. I'll bet you'll be able to tell if your mirror is auto-dimming when you get somebody behind you with their highbeam headlights on. ;) Unless you took delivery of your car at your home, it is unlikely that the sales guy could have successfully programmed your garage door remote. For most garage door openers made in the past 20 years, it is a 2-step process with the 2nd step usually requiring the pressing of a button on the garage door opener motor housing in your garage. I won't go over the procedure since it's been covered a bazillion times on this forum. If necessary, look in your garage door opener owners manual -- if you don't have it, you can likely find instructions on the Internet.
  6. Two sensors (TPS and PPS) are necessary to allow VSC to intervene and take control of the thottle regardless of the pedal position.
  7. I think they are the hightlighted parts in the attached diagram -- part numbers 89467-48010 and/or 89467-48011 ... you might verify the part numbers with your Lexus dealer. http://www.parts.com/ has a description of "Oxygen sensor, rx300, front" for both part numbers -- don't know what is up with that. They sell them for $147.14 each.
  8. Hey SK, Dr. Jay was asking what would fit the 9006 sockets in his wife's 98 LS400. I guess I've always seen the term "rebased" used to describe HID bulbs that wil fit 9006 or 9004. What do you call these types of bulbs?
  9. Per the attached diagram of a 2005 IS300 front fender, it looks like there are bolts below the turn signal area.
  10. Just document the service you and and others have done in your maintenance booklet. If it makes you feel better, buy a little inked stamp so you can make the maintenance booklet entry look official. Keep all your receipts for a future buyer -- used car buyers love to see receipts. There is no need to have the dealer repeat the work you have already done. I've generally taken our Toyota and Lexus cars to a dealer or indie professional mechanic only at 30,000 mile intervals and even then I've performed some of the work (e.g. oil changes) myself. I just write "owner performed" by the items I've done myself and keep track of everything (including gas station fill-ups, wiper blade insert installations, etc.) in a separate maintenance log.
  11. Hey Python! "Killer" has a 93 LS that uses 9003/HB2/H4 bulbs. I thought you had your HID kit in your 92 LS headlights which use 9004 bulbs ... or had you installed 93/94 LS400 headlights in your 92 LS. Would your HID kit fit killer's 93 LS headlights? I remember when you said you had to splice in H4 connectors when you installed the Eagle Eye headlights on your 92.
  12. I think the little box behind the left horn is the smog sensor -- my U.S. spec 2000 LS400 has it too. It's the gizmo that allows the HVAC system to automatically switch between outside and recirculated air depending on outside air quality. The sensitivity of the smog sensor can be adjusted using the HVAC buttons on the center stack but I'd have to look in my owners manual for the procedure.
  13. Aftermarket HID conversion kits use "rebased" HID bulbs -- they can not be used in headlights designed for HID bulbs. Your 98 LS uses D2R HID bulbs like my 00 LS. The rebased HID bulbs dasha1 used in his wife's 98 LS were rebased to fit a 9006 Halogen bulb socket. I've seen a 2-pack of new OEM Phillips HID D2R bulbs on eBay for as little as $125. Replace both bulbs if you want them to have the same color. Stick with the OEM 4100K temperature for maximum output. Higher temperatue bulbs (6000K, 8000K, etc.) are "bluer" but put out less light. Be careful when buying on eBay. People sell used OEM Phillips HID D2R bulbs for about the same price as new ones.
  14. No risk. Might be different if you had a 98-up LS with side air bags in the seat backs or a 93-up (?) LS with front seat belt tensioners. You'll be disconnecting the electric seats. It never hurts to be cautious and disconnect the battery when doing anything with the electricals.
  15. Do you see anything in the passenger side footwell that looks like the part in the attached diagram for a 2000 ES300 that has the highlighted number under it? I've never removed a blower motor but a repair shop did in my previous LS400 for very little so it must have been easy in that car -- some debris in the squirrel cage fan was causing noise.
  16. You can find instuctions for many phones on the Lexus website - search for Bluetooth. I think the instructions for your phone are at http://lexusbluetooth.letstalk.com/brands/.../436_05Navi.pdf I've never heard of a Lexus vehicle coming with XM or Sirius as standard. Anything happen when you press the Sat button? Ask the seller? On updating your nav, here is something from the my.IS forum on updating the nav on an 06 IS350 -- likely the same procedure for your car but can not be certain: "There's a tool in your toolkit for this- it's just a faceplate by the clock on the dash with two little holes in it for the tool (or a couple paperclips or something), pop it off, there's the DVD drive. Swap DVDs, close, put plate back on, done." I've seen cautions that updating the nav should be done only by the dealer but plenty of people seem to do it themselves.
  17. Parts.com has OEM foglight assemblies for the 99 GS300 for $173.63 -- different foglights depending on if the car has HID headlights. There are lots of other discount on-line sellers but Parts.com is usually competitive. The part numbrs for the 99 ES300 foglight assemblies are different from the 99 GS300 per toyodiy.com .
  18. Some people have said they have codes read at an Autozone store but probably any repair shop could read them.
  19. Your question has been asked many times but I don't remember anyone finding much of a correlation between pre-1998 Lexus LS parts and Toyota brand parts. Of course there is a lot of correlation between parts on the ES and Camry. There are a number of engine parts -- such as the idler and tensioner -- that are the same on the 98-00 Lexus LS400 and the 98-00 Toyota Landcruiser -- probably because the 4.7 litre V8 was used in the Landcruiser beginning with the 98 model year. But even on the parts shared between the 98-00 LS and 98-00 Landcruiser, discount on-line parts sellers like parts.com sell the parts for the same prices regardless if you look up the parts in the Toyota or Lexus sections of their catalog. I think the 90915‑20002 part number may have been for the Toyota/Lexus V8 engine oil filter way back when it was manufactured in Japan. The 90915-YZZD3 part number is for the oil filter when production of it was moved to Thailand. We've had a 98 Camry for nearly 13 years so I'm occasionally in a nearby Toyota dealer buying stuff for it. The Toyota parts guy tried several times to get parts for the 90 LS I used to have but never had any luck -- except for oil filters and oil plug gaskets since the 98-up Landcruiser V8 uses the same oil filter and most (all?) Toyota and Lexus cars use the same oil plug and oil plug gasket. The last several 10-packs of oil filters with 10 oil plug gasket for our LS400s have cost $40 at the Toyota dealer. I remember back in the early 90's when the local Lexus dealer was charging about $13 each for the same (but with the 90915‑20002 part number) oil filter. I do remember my 90 LS using one part that a Toyota Supra also used but I can't remember which year Supra -- the part was a horn relay.
  20. I'll attach a diagram for a 95 SC300 showing it but it's not clear to me how to get to it. Maybe it will make sense to you. Parts.com has it (part number 88880-24020) for $35.26. I've gone through a lot of similar filters on my LS -- I've been thinking of cutting up a furnace filter and replacing the filter material in the little plastic frame. The filter can be cleaned to a certain extent with compressed air or just by shaking or knocking it against something.
  21. The procedure for removing the radio headunit in a 95-00 LS400 is essentially the same as described in the thread you found for a 90-94 LS400 except that in a 95-00 LS400, the ashtray and console wood is removed as a single unit. The instructions at the following link say they are for a 98-99 LS400 but the procedure is the same for a 95-97 LS400 and a 2000 LS400: http://www.pro-fit-intl.com/Adobe/LX-52-98-p1.pdf Be gentle when prying up the wood in your 95 -- thinner and easier to crack than in the earlier LS400. You will have to unplug the connectors from thr TRAC switch and heated seat switch (if you have heated seats) after you pry up the console wood so you can set the console/ashtray assembly aside. Also be when careful prying out the center vents which can become brittle with age. As long as you don't break the parts, the center vent assembly can be reassembled if it falls apart like it usually does (into lots of pieces) when I remove the center vent in my 00 LS400. Just keep track of the vent parts if they fall apart. Edit: I should have mentioned that there will be one or more connectors on the air vent assembly that will have to be disconnected as the air vent assembly is pulled out of the dashboard.
  22. Why would switching from a V rated (149 mph) tire to an H rated (130 mph) tire cause steering wheel vibrations? I've done it with no problems. My snow tires are even lower speed Q rated (99 mph) tires and they don't cause any steering vibration either.
  23. The navigation update procedure is discussed in this thread: http://us.lexusownersclub.com/forums/index...showtopic=26948
  24. http://www.toyodiy.com shows the part number for the "MOTOR, THROTTLE CONTROL" for the 98 GS300 as 89672-30020. Looking up the part number on http://www.parts.com shows a discounted price of $202.95 . The description for the part number of parts.com says "Idle speed control, gs300" -- odd that the description is so different.
