  1. I have a 93ls that has 2 leaking caps on the circuit board. With the car running smooth then surging back and forth, idle way up then idle way down. stalling at stop lights. The later will run perfect. So I have read some stories of bad service with ECU rebuilders. Have any of you had good results with an ECU repair? And if so can you give a name and contact info. Or name and city where they are located. Thanks, Walt
  2. The brake light switch on the break peddle was the problem on my 93ls for having to use the override button to get out of park. Easy to change if your a contortionist. Note the gap between the peddle are and the switch button before you remove the old one. Set the new one to equal the gap. I think my new switch was around $40.00 from dealer
  3. you can order one from a Lexus dealer around $8.00. Yes it's crazy to cost this much!
  4. these hoses connect to an idle up valve that works to increase rpm a bit during turning the wheels. the valve is known to leak and suck p/s fluid in and therefore into the intake, causing smoke. if i remember right from older threads the smoke tends to be blue. Try a search there had been a few threads on this issue
  5. Thanks for your reply. It is the blower/fan in the cabin. There is an audible click when it shuts off. The no other noise than the blower starting again, Just as if you had turned the a/c on. Today it happened twice at the same stop light. This is on high blower speed. I switched to med speed on the fan and it did not happen any further on the rest of the drive home. Around 20 minutes. I will check the freon inspection window to see if it is low. Walt
  6. I have a 93ls with 130k miles on it. Regular maintenance, ect.... I live in the low desert where the a/c runs on high all of the time. The a/c works great and very cold. But yesterday as I came to a s0top at the light. The a/c " clicked " off ( like I hit the off switch ) then right back on. Drove 20 more minutes with no problem. Then today on the way home from work this happened twice. Both of these times, like before, just as the car came to a complete stop. Then right back on before the fans had completely stopped spinning. I have spliced in new wires on the trunk harness from a previous issue. Historical note: I have cel codes 41 TPS, 47 traction control ( which is weird since I do not have traction control ) And the cell code for #2 vehicle speed sensor. These codes have been present for months. I doubt they are related to the a/c issue. But you never know. My thought would be an overheating a/c relay. What do you think? THANKS
  7. at least new wires, if you are going to replace them I would change the caps, rotors and plugs at the same time. The drivers side coil is the one with the most failures. Mine just went out after replacing it 4 yrs. ago during a tune-up. ( with OEM from Lexus ) $80.00 My car was surging the rpm up and down almost stalling. And would not go above 30mph, very, very rough engine I am associated with any part seller. I always order on line with Park Place Lexus-Plano. They are in texas and have always provided great prices and service. Just google park place lexus-plano.
  8. the rough idle could still be the old gas. I would try a can of seafoam and fill up with some premium gas. did the cel code return? It was cleared when, I assume, if you had the battery disconnected during the starter replacement.
  9. I believe that is one of the two hoses from the power steering pump idle up valve. Which is suppose to increase the rpm while turning the wheels at idle.
  10. I has a 93ls. Will any year ls seats fit?
  11. I would check all of the connections that were disconnected or could of been damaged during the rebuild. Also after setting for so long I would remove as much of the old gas as possible and add fresh gas and maybe a can of dry gas to address ant water in the gas. Is the engine firing at all? If the engine is not cranking how is the fan turning?
  12. Remove the plastic panel under the glove box. Use something thin but stiff like a scraper and cover the end with electrical tape to prevent scratches. Pry down back and forth at the ends enough to fit you fingers in and pull off the cover. There will be a small light with wires. Look for this so as not to damage. Look under the dash you will see a wing nut unscrew this and remove the cover. ( put some newspaper down to catch any debris that may fall out. Pull the first of two filters down and out then slide the second one toward you and then down and out. You may need a needle nose pliers as mine had spread apart and was hard to pull out. I ordered mine from park place lexus in plano texas. They have on-line or phone parts ordering. Cost around 60.00
  13. I would check your cel codes. and search forum for trunk hinge wire. The wire frays on the drivers side trunk hinge and can cause all types of problems. Pull the black trim off the hinge and unwrap the wires toward the back seat past the " U " bend in the wire. Look for breaks and cracks.
  14. you can buy a rebuilt denso alt on-line. a few Lexus dealers offer this. Much less expensive than walking into the local dealer. I am happy with park place lexus in plano texas. I paid around $300.00. Installing is not that hard but you will need a few tools. The ls requires a high amp alt. can't recall the exact amp. You also may find www.lexls.com helpfull
  15. not sure what you cars problem is. But sounds like a very common problem. I would start with a good can of gas cleaner like SEAFOAM. It goes in the gas tank and help clean carbon deposits. Also search this forum for a link to cleaning the throttle body. Check your vacuum hoses for cracks or leaks. You may also need to inspect or replace the spark plug wires, distributor caps and rotors . Another common problem is broken or worn wires in the trunk of the car. Peel off the black trim piece on the trunk hinge ( on the drivers side in the USA ) and unwrap the wire harness and detach the clips to be able to unwrap all the way to the connector. Inspect the wires for breaks, ect. If broke you can splice in a new section. Do the with the car battery disconnected. Check for CEL codes and post any on the forum for further advice. Use the search topic box the look for info. Also look at www.lexls.com
  16. If it is one of the coils it is typically the one down low on the drivers side ( US model )
  17. look at www. arnottindustries.com for aftermarket air shocks. The web site only list up to 1999. you might give them a call to check for your year.
  18. my 93ls ran as you described. When I picked it up after buying it 1500miles from home I would have stuttering and jerking on acceleration or when going up even a small incline on the interstate. After I got home I started with a tune up. Plugs and wires "looked" OK. But when I tried to remove the wires from the dist. caps. each side had one or more of the terminals just break apart. They were full of corrosion. So new caps, rotors, wires and plugs. This solved my problem.
  19. Toyota in the early to mid 80's had ignitor issues. They are to my understanding electronic points.( Anyone remember these? ) Anyway the were replacing them for free when they went bad. The car would act exactly like you were running out of gas. And if you let the car sit for a while, I assume that the ignitor would cool off, it would re start and run fine for days/weeks. The ls has two of them.
  20. If you T.B. service was done at a lexus dealer. The service record will be avail. to the via the internet. Drop by a dealer, talk to the service manger, and ask them if they will pull the cars service record. You will need to provide them with the VIN # This will give any service that was ever done at the dealer. Some of the service done will just have numbers. So you may have to ask the to decode it for you.
  21. I would look at adjusting the park neutral safety switch. Flush and fill with toyota fluid.
  22. Is the battery shot and not taking the charge? and is the belt tension wheel holding the belt tight enough? As far as I know the voltage regulator is built into the alternator. The connector may look good but maybe the wiring is cracked or shorting. check for worn insulation along all of the wires and battery cables and ground point. Also the ls uses a 100 amp alt if I remember correctly

  24. The DLC is the diagnostic connector. one on top of the engine drivers side. And one under the drivers side dash.
