  1. Hello: Since you have the car running good, If you have not, replace the air filter, or clean it if it is not ultra dirty, clean the Throtle Body of carbon build up, that should be really bad in the back part of it, tutorials in the site available. Also another good one to do is to clean the Maf Sensor. Research in the forums the information is there. You can also log in into the UK, they have good info there also. I suggest to both of you, the one without problems and the one with problems. It is good preventive maintenance. Walt if you found your plugs very dirty, imagine what you are going to find inside the TB. I have done to mine all I have said here and is running like new! C. PR ← thanks for the info. I have not yet cleaned the throttle body. I was just searching the forum for info on cleaning the T.b. and saw the replies to my post. Will also look at the MAF sensor. I still get occ. very minor rough idle. I have also ran Sea Foam three times. Plan a new fuel filter. Air filter was in good condition. I've no other advise for my friend 93ls400 with 250,000 miles. But I do wish you luck. And look forward to your post when this is resolved. E-mail if you like w.desha@insightbb.com
  2. Thank you for those words of wisdom. I am a new owner of a 93LS400. And was statring to wonder about " those " noises. this is a great car!
  3. as far as the battery. It only starts the car, then the alternater provides the current for the electrical system. If your battery is slow to charge or dosen't hold a full charge your alternator may be unabe to provide proper current for the entire car. While trying to recharge the battery. You may want to have your alternator checked for proper output also.
  4. fuel filter? ← Could be one of the coils with malfunction at high output.
  5. why only a month or two? that seems a pretty short time for a top of line wax. I like zymol cuz I like to use my hands to put it on you can feel everything. Zaino is also very good it just seems to go on and off so easy I wonder if its really working.lol But as stated once you clean the paint pours your wax should come off with no problem, and I enjoy waxing so I do so every couple months at least. ← Hello everyone, I bought a 93LS400 from florida. The paint color is great. But the front bumper, hood and in front if the moon roof. Also the windshield felt like fine sand paper. I assume from blowing sand. I read most of the lititure in the forums. I started with # 7 brand clear coat polishing compound. It smothed some and removed the heaver scratches. Then I used Meguiars scratch X. Removed the finer scratches. Then applied Mothers California Gold clay bar. This is wonderful. Really did a great job even after the other two products. Then cleaned with Meguiars deep crystal paint cleaner. The final coat was Meguiars NXT Tech wax. The paint has a deeper luster ( this is a Diamond Pearl White car ). The flakes are glowing. AND the finish is smooth and as slick as ice. I also tryed the free sample of Mothers carnauba cleaner wax that came with the clay system on my side mirrors and a spot on the hood. These areas are even more smooth. (Maybe it's just the second coat ). Some of this may have been overkill. But hte final result is awsome. Sorry no pics. I don't have a digital camera.
  6. Thanks SW03ES, I've been leaning toward Meguiars products. If weather permits. I am going to detail this weekend.
  7. Can you give some more details on doing this. Where do you get the "silver cap" ect. What type of solder/flux. Heat source. Any info greatly appreceated. Walt
  8. Please Advise. My 93LS400 tach needle mostly sets on zero. Every now and then with a hard acceleration it will jump up to around 1200 RPM. Then back to zero after letting off the pedel Are their any other items to look at except the circuit board? Thanks, Walt PS, yes sometimes the spedo. will stick and now with the cold the gas needle is slow to rise. Walt
  9. Is there any information from personal results on the care of this color paint? I am hopeing to acheive a deep, rich shine. Also, does this color have a clear coat finish? Thanks, Walt
  10. Welcome! B) ← Very interestion! Thanks, Walt
  11. 5W-30 conventional oil is what the manual and oil filler cap specifies for use in both the summer and winter. Of the thousands of owners on this forum, NONE have ever reported a case of heavy engine wear or engine failure when they followed the owners manual instructions to use 5W-30 conventional oil and to change it at the prescribed intervals. Ditto in regard to differential oil. The manual specifies 80W-90 conventional in climates where winter temps may get below zero degrees F. If you want to use synthetic anyway, use of 80W-90 synthetic sometimes results in higher noise levels. Using 75W-140 synthetic solves the noise problem. ← Thank you Monarch for that oil info. Walt
  12. Well, I thought I would add my input for what it is worth. #1) lets see some oil test here since all I see are oil names with nothing to back it up. Not saying you guys are wrong but lets see the numbers here. #2) So far a lot of the oils named are lacking n several areas. I could go on and on, but when someone does post some oils UOA, or an oil that is higher the 3.5 in HTHS, over 3,000 ppm of Ca, and over 1100 to 1200 of ZDDP, lets talk here. Oh, I also wanta VI over 180 please and no ash either. Also I high TBN over 11.5 to. I have some oil tests on my auto online. Also just did another longer drain and sending the test out tomorrow. So far, I spend a WHOPPING $50 for my group 4/5 oil changed and that INCLUDES the OIL TEST. I change my oil from 11, to 12K+ miles; anything less would be flat out crazy in my eyes. These longer drains only happen with a group 4/5 oil too so do not try it with your walfart oils. To date, I have YET to find a better oil for the dollar then Amsoil. Show me a better oil that performs better, with all integral performace, and I will switch. Not saying Amsoil is the best hands down, but for the longevity, performance, protection, benefits etc, it wins. ← Thanks for the oil brand info. I would like to know what viscosity is best. I live in central Kentucky. Summer is 85-95 and winter is mostly 10 to 30 degrees F. Also, how about gear oil? Some say to increase vis. with synthtics. Is this true? Thanks, Walt.93LS400, 92,000 miles

  14. Hello to everyone. I am a new member with my first Lexus. A 1993 LS 400 bought through EBAY in Florida. As you know this is a wonderfull automobile. But soon after I received the car it developed a miifire at low speed then at idle and finally at freeway speeds. Jerking on the slightest acceleration. Esp. on an incline. Could barely acheive 40 MPH on a hill. The missing was intermittent but very frequent. I had some great advice from a Forum member as to where to start. I started with a tune up. I found massive amounts of corrosion on 2 plugs and inside the right bank coil wire and dist. cap terminal junction. Replaced everything and my "new " LS 400 is running fantastic now. I just wanted to pass this info. on to the forum. And say thank you to all who post. You advice was invaluable to me. walt
