  1. i agree, because the SC has more of a round shape the stock (400) rims look better becasue of its rounder profile. the IS rims ar a bit too edgy. just my $.02 too, dont take it personaly every one has different tastes ;)
  2. i cant really tell you how the tranny will fail because i have not experienced it but my friend sais that eventually it wont go in to gear. and well 4000 bucks isnt a bad price becasue he does everything meaning taking out the trans rebuilding everything and putting it back in. and if you have ever taken an auto trans appart and rebuilt it you will want to charge a price like that because trans work is very teadious it requires absolute cleanliness or the trans will fail. and the reason why my friend charges so much is because he is know to have the cleanest shop on the island. anyway i went down to the dealer this morning and priced out a trans for the sc400. the price through my account is something like $2360 with a $1000 core meaning that you pay like $3400 and get a grand back when you take the old trans back.
  3. yes in the long run it will just not engage. the trans seems to be the weak point in these cars but not much goes maybe suspension which is normal on any car but just more noticeable on these cars, and maybe powersteering pump thats about it i think...
  4. mmm... mine does the same thing. but its not so bad that it does it in traffic. and i talked to one of my friends that owns a transmission shop and he said that the clutch packs seals are probably worn and well i just need a total rebuild that would probably cost 4000 bucks from him.

  6. yea but you only need to disconnect the battery for like 2 min. or you can disconnect the EFI fuse if you dont want to reset your radio stuff and clock.
  7. i hear that the w58 can handle about 450hp. my friends IS has 380hp to the wheels and there's no problem with the trans. as for sleeving the 2j..... its already an iron block buddy

  9. using an auto engine well only work if you find a manual harness and computer but its possible that u can use the auto harness if the plugs in the ecu are the same but major wiring work will be needed. the easier thing to do would be to go standalone engine management, like a motec or autronic.
  10. if your car laready has hid's then you just need bulbs right? so you can get like a phillips 6000k set for like 200 bucks?
  11. no its stock hight so less likely that its a allignment issue plus it only has 24k miles on it but it could be that she ran over something.
  12. hi. i regularly take care and maintain a friends 99 GS400 and well lately there is vibration in the steering wheel at about 60, anything above or below it doesnt do it. could that be a suspension issue or a tire issue?
  13. in any case just use AC becasue the difference in gas consumption is maybe 5 bucks worth of gas and do you really want to be hot over a #1 at Mc Donalds?
  14. you can probably get some Samco radiator hoses, those are blue.
  15. starter motor and coils have nothing to do with each other. someone else said that their timing jumped a tooth take off the cam gear covers and see if everything lines up. then you can eliminate the possibility of timing being off.
  16. pull them out and see if either of them are burnt.
  17. i think there is no difference between manual and auto engage for the compressor, you might wear out the button though :D but as for the compressor, its either on or of, cuz its just a switch. and plus the clutch should slip a little when it engages, and thats why it wears out. at idle or what ever engine speed the computer lets it engage. so i would just put it on auto and set the temp to a comfortable setting and forget about it.

  19. oh oops! i didnt read your post right the first time. i am sure that there is more wear when the clutch is engaged at high rpm but its hard to say becasue like you said compressors can last 60k miles or 160k miles but honestly most compressors dont need to be changed the main seal needs to be changed and most mechanics wont risk failure of installing that and put in the time when they can make more off of parts than labor time.
  20. yea it does... how often do you have to change your ac compressor clutch?
  21. im sure engaging the clutch at higher rpm's wears out the clutch more but it does last a minimum of 10 years while letting the car controll when it turns on and off. so i wouldnt worry about it.
  22. try change the swaybar bushings first becasue that made the world of difference when changing all of the suspension pieces in my LS
  23. just ask for the ignition coils. and its fairly simple to replace you just have to look for them. one is on the driver's side bank of the engine and the other is in the middle of the V you will see coil wires coming out. but make sure first that you smell raw fuel coming out of the exhaust
