  4. Here is a Timing Belt Replacement Supplementary Article http://www.lextreme.com/timing2.html
  5. This link might help How To Replace A/C Compressor
  6. How about getting an EGR Delete Kit? They will save you thousands.. david
  7. Lesson? Its too easy that is why no one really write about it. There are three 14mm bolts. One on top and two at the bottom. U also need to slowly bleed the freon and remove the two lines along with two electrical plugs. U gotta remove the fan belt first. The fan belt is held by a 14mm belt tensioner. U need to jack the car up inorder to access the two 14mm. The job will take about 30 minutes. Most of the time, clutch is the one that broke. david (spelling)
  8. I am almost finished with my water pump and timing belt right now. Man!, you will learn lot if you do it yourself. Too bad I only have about 1.5 hours a week on it. Its an experience you wont forget. Once you do the water pump and starter. You basically know the whole engine. david I do recommend buying the complete tensioner assembly (including a new pulley) from autozone (part#305255, good for all 2nd gen LS4/SC4, made by Dayco, $65), and change out the old pulley first to see whether the noise will go away. if not, then it must be tensioner itself. also, unlike SC4, u don't have to remove coolant tank on LS4, but SC4 has a long nose, so it has a lot bigger engine compartment to work with. LS4 is so darn tight, and so little room between fan blades and drive belt..... ←
  9. I used 1/2" air gun with 110 psi. I tried to get the compressor to go higher in psi, but that was the limite. Tried that methode for about 25 minutes with lots of WD40. Finally after one try... the bolt comes off. david
  10. Carl, I hate that... doing the work and taking pics at the same time. I just changed my water pump, cam seals last night. I still need to take out the crank timing pulley to change out the crank seal. The the crank pulley out was a pain. Tried the high tech compressor gun, didnt work. Tried using the tool recommended by Lexus, didnt work. I did it the "old school" Method. The old school method was insert the 22mm socket and the bar again the floor and crank the engine few times. All hell break loose and the crank pulley bolt came right out. Now i will spend more time putting things back. That's if you really know what you're doing ;). I think it would take me all day, especially since I take a lot of pics :whistles: . ←
  11. I have my egr blocked and not problem with check engine light. I did it for the following reasons: Lower Intake Temperature therefore increase HP (2-5 hp estimated) * Reduce expensive Lexus Parts for repair * Increase Exhaust flow for Turbo Application * Cleaner look of your engine bay * Easier to change Injectors and other parts due to EGR delete. do a search in google and type "lexus egr delete kit" My egr pipe had a leak and my check engine came on for many years. Didnt find out until i got my engine replaced. I also bypass the TB radiator fluid too to decrease intake temp. Good luck david The people who own and run the the Supra Forums and MKIV.com can't tell durability potential of the EGR valve, catalytic converter etc. since none of those performance enthusiast oriented type folks keep their cars 100% stock using OEM replacement parts, etc. So when their EGR components or catalytic converter or other parts fail at 150,000 miles they just chalk the failures up to "old age" The actual durability potential of all that emission system hardware is really up in the 400,000 - 600,000 mile range http://www.saber.net/~monarch/454.jpg and Toyotas with 450,000+ miles have still passed tough California emission tests with all their factory original emission components http://www.saber.net/~monarch/smog92.jpg ←
  12. Do it yourself.... it will take about 4-5 hours and only $60-70 dollars.... david I found a reptutable independent garage in my area by asking other Lexus owners I would see while out and about. One particular mechanic was the clear "winner" with many of the folks I talked to. We to see him, set an appointment for my 91 LS400. He did full tune up, oil change, transmission service, coolant flush, timing belt, (said water pump was fine so he didn't change), drive belt, etc. for $795.00! There are still honest mechanics out there...you just have to ask a few "friends" Good Luck B) ←
  13. I am doing my water pump, timing belt and other accessories. Be prepare to spend a weekend on it. Take your time and do it one at a time. U should also change out the crank and cam seals too. Since the engine is opened, might as well do it all at once. david Call me crazy but that actually looks like fun!! I even have a lot of those tools!! If anybody has to do this let me know - Maybe I'll come help. ←
  14. I have a tutorial on the starter replacement. It will take you 6 hours. www.lextreme.com/starter.html david
  15. Doing the timing belt and starter is two different procedure and its none related. Timing belt is all front.. Starter is tall top. Replacing starter without removing the intakes would be IMPOSSIBLE. Supra starter can be remove without removing the intake.
  16. Do you find the Tutorial Helpful? The 2UZ should be easier, but again its a taller car to work on and you back will kill u.
  17. Sure do.... DIY V8 Starter Replacement Make sure you get a special 14mm tool. Other people stated you have to loosen the tranny mount and so. I did it without jacking the car up. All from the top.
  18. I have a good used air compressor is your are interested from a 90 LS400.
  19. Timing belt change is not that bad. It just takes time. Be patience and do it slowly. If you think timing belt is hard. U should try to replace your starter. It took me almost 6 hours. No its not the upper or the lower intake. What took most of the time was the two 14mm bolt that hold the starter. It require special tools. I have an article on it.
  20. Wil, There two fuses in the engine fuse box. Disconnect them and the whole system shuts down. No more flashing lights in dash.
  21. Honestly speaking. Not too many..... We have the most compenhensive and complete info on the V8.
  22. Wilfred, Having a LS400 with AS, you dont have much choice. david
  23. Wandawoods is right. Dont mess with the air shocks. You replace one and other will go bad. Its time they all go bad. Do the conversion and you will take care of this problem forever and I mean forever. I get about one email a week asking about my air shock that i am selling. I tell all me senders to do the conversion.
