  1. The seats never move on key insertion. Never has in any model or year. The steering wheel retracts for easier entry and exit. Nothing else To save a preset in the system: You put the seat, steering, seatbelt anchor and external mirrors the the position you want them in. Then, WHILE THE CAR IS IN PARK, you press and hold the set button then press the preset number button once. You will hear a long beep. At that time the preset is saved.
  2. Actually access if fully open...why'd you think otherwise?
  3. Wiring diagram is at the link i posted earlier.
  4. Only the steering wheel retracts when the key is removed. Nothing else. The memory settings will adjust your seat, mirrors and steering when selected.
  5. WOW...at CL we've been through this so in depth. It should still work because the headunit will activate the changer inputs anyway even though there is an error message. It is the most amazing thing ever because sound quality is so much better than a freaking transmitter. I would say that it sounds even bettery than my stock Nak changer becuase i can modify the sound settings on my mp3 player. Just get it done...you wont be sorry.
  6. Dang, I didnt realise that here at LOC we were not on the ball on this Aux input issue. I have mine set up already by tapping into the changer inputs. Changer still works perfectly and i didnt even have to cut into one single wire. HERE we have a complete explanation of how to get the mod done. No wires need to be cut. http://www.bedlib.org/ebsco.html This is a website that I found a while ago where you can find wiring diagrams and a lot of other info for almost any car out there. (NOTE: for the 1990 LS you need to use the info for the 1992 which is the same in most ways) When this is done your mp3 play will sound as good as the changer if not better.
  7. I'd have to disagree with that completely. This is my first winter with my LS here in Canada and I have to say that I have had many, MANY occasions, I would be driving along a corner when I would suddenly feel a little shimmy in the car then to notice that the trac light would be flashing on the dash. To me what that means is that it just saved me from some now unknown possibility because more than likely, my back end was about to slip out. I'm pretty sure it's done a lot for me, and to me, the fact that I'm not sure is great, because in this case the only time someone would be sure is after something goes wrong. And just out of curiousity, I have turned it off for a few minutes on a few occasions and I have to say that the driving experience was remarkably different because on icy surfaces the car was WAY more unpredictable.
  8. I think your bad luck seems to be with ebay sellers who have no idea what they are selling... Not to diss ebay sellers as I am a frequent seller myself...

  10. Isn't the fuel pump in this car at the bottom of the gas tank?
  11. Here in Niagara Falls, Canada, it's been around -17 Celsius (about 0 Fahreneit for our american friends) for the last week or so (this is daytime temps so nighttime is even worse). I have noticed more of a buzzing kinda sound at initial startup every morning. I've also had the instrument panel issue every morning since the temp went below 0. My oil is pretty fresh (about 2000km) and all my other fluids are in check also. I havent worried to much about it tho...only thought that crossed my mind was...i wonder if i need to go to a lower viscousity oil (i believe i have 5W in there right now) or perhaps get an oil pan heater for the night.
  12. His is a gen 1 like mine so we just have to remove the side park lights and reach inside to access the bulb. Yours being gen 2 could be different.
  13. Awesome comparison OmarG, I've always wondered what the difference was between the Xrtavision and the silverstars. When I got my new LS recently, I couldnt bring myself to buy the Silverstars agin, mainly because of the price. My last pair lasted well, about 2 years, but what it came down to for me is that i would be paying double the price of the xtravisions for the same light with a whiter beam. This being winter and all, whiter light isnt even that advantagous (could even be disadvantagous) so i though fudge it and went with the xtravisions. I wanted to do a comparison too but probably like everyone else on here, I was just too lazy to do it!
  14. LS400 FRONT Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the precautions in the beginning of this section. Remove the front wheels. Disconnect the brake line at the caliper. Remove the 2 bolts to the holding the caliper to the steering knuckle and remove the caliper assembly. To install: Install the caliper. Install the 2 bolts and torque to 87 ft. lbs. (118 Nm). Connect the brake line with 2 new gaskets and tighten the union to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm). Refill the reservoir as necessary and bleed the brake system.
  15. Welcome to LOC, Glad you're enjoying your LS... Just wanted to add a possibility about the air suspension...the air suspension computer is programmed to raise the car to high if it senses that you are driving on very rough terrain. So if the roads in your area are on the rough side, that may be the cause. Normally, air suspension error code flashes the NORMAL light.
  16. Good lord dude... Welcome to Lexus, I hope you never have to deal with that crap again...and with a Lexus you most likely wont. I just cant believe the number of things that went wrong with that s500 in a few years. My beater 1992 Taurus doesnt have a list that long. Get yourself that 430 and find out what it feels like to just change your oil and add gas and feel good knowing that you wont be stuck anywhere or have to take it in every 3 weeks....and you'll spend less on gas too! Welcome to the peaceful world that is Lexus.
  17. In japan that handlebar is actually standard in every luxury sedan. Guess it wouldnt pass in north america. I have had cars with those on them (Toyota Crown etc) and i have to say that when they're there, people do use them when getting in and out (mainly elderly and kids tho).
  18. G-book has been available in Japan for many years now.
  19. If this were the case the car would idle too fast all the time, regardless of its "warmness".
  20. This is absolutely normal. Every fuel injected car I've owned (even the crappy Ford Taurus) has done that. From what I've read, the engine computer does that when the engine is cold to reduce the amount of bad emissions until the car is at normal running temperature. It has to do with heating up the cat converter quickly because it works most effectively when hot. It's good old chemical thermodynamics. Higher temperature = more effective reaction. Combine that with the fact that at cold start the car outputs its worst pollutant levels and it makes sense to heat it quickly. Under normal operating conditions, the catalytic process doesn't begin until temperatures inside a converter reach 500 to 600 degrees (F). If air/fuel ratio is on target, and the exhaust is free of contaminants, internal converter temperature stays at about 1200 degrees. This warm-up period immediately after a vehicle is started is when the catalytic converter is least efficient and the vehicle expels the most pollutants. Some vehicles employ a pre-converter in the exhaust system immediately after the manifold to help during this warm-up period. The pre-converter's small size and proximity to the engine allow it to heat up and start functioning in less time than the main converter. It also pre-heats the exhaust gasses and helps the main converter reach operating temperature sooner Also, remember the old days or carbs when you'd have to pull the choke to cold start a car? In today's world, the car does it for you.
  21. Cloth interior seems to be a rare option in North America but in Japan it seems to be the material of choice.
  22. I've checked through all the episodes and i see no mention of the LS in the whole series. The SC is mentioned however. Any idea what season it was from or how long ago it was aired? http://www.tv.com/top-gear/show/27682/epis...down;dropdown;8
  23. Nice job! Electric stuff is normally frustrating to track and fix but you made small work of that!
  24. Well here's your wiring diagram... http://www.e-toolbox.com/ads/wiring/va063192.pdf
