  1. It's just like the first second of a drag race. Not enough traction to the rear wheel and it will invariably side to one side or the other. FWD is just good because if the front slides like that you notice before it's too late. Better tires is all you can do. The extra weight if you use sandbags will help you to dig in to start moving BUT you have to remember that more weight at the back gives the car a higher tendency to fishtail once you're moving. Bit of a tradeoff. Tires is your best chance....or AWD.
  2. Search the forum. Lots on that already covered. CHECK THIS OUT TOO: should help you out: :D
  3. Ok i found this in another post: "Wedge a flat head screwdriver along the plastic cover panel (parallel with the seat) at each side there are two tabs that you have to push towards the back of the car and the plastic cover will pop up. Do it slowly and you should have no problem." The person said it worked great.
  4. This is for gen1 but i guess it should be same/similar: http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/lighting/upperstoplight.html
  5. Doors are 4". Sub in your model is 8". The ones by the rear view mirror is not mid They're tweeters and i think that's 1" or so. Here is a tutorial on how to fit bigger ones in the 4" spaces and the tweeters. SPEAKER TUTORIAL If you do a lot of DIY then that site is for you. The tutorials are AWESOME! ALL TUTORIALS Thanks to Lexls for that. BTW welcome to the club. Lots to learn here!
  6. Not to be obvious but anyone ask the stealer about this? :whistles:
  7. The blury pic is the one that is most likely real.
  8. ← Steering will always get stiff if the engine speed is too low so that is just a resulting symptom and not the actual problem. I had the same issue on an old taurus i had (thus the a/c suggestion). Steering would be stiff at idle esp with a/c on. I ended up changing the iac on that car and it fixed the problem. I figured out it was the iac by unplugging it and noting that the idle though slower but more stable with it unplugged. I dont know how different, if at all, it is with the lex tho. The IAC should never really "close off" but just regulate the air supply. It is controlled by the ecu though, however, the fact that it does respond to the a/c being turned on means that it is working but maybe not as well as it should. Cleaning the inside mechanics of the IAC on the taurus helped a lot when i did it. Seems that it may have just been dirty and that was restricting its movement. I used electrical contact cleaner to do mine (works and leaves no residue). What's for sure though is that it isnt your steering that has a problem.
  9. Sounds kinda like the teeth on the tranny end of the shaft are worn down...have you looked at them at all? Not sure what would wear those down other than some serious abuse...
  10. It could affect the steering because if the idle is too low then the pump wont be able to turn fast enough. Put on the a/c at the same time and see what happens. If it stiffens up with the a/c on then it could well be the IAC because it is responsible for speeding up the idle to absorb the higher energy requirements of the a/c at idle.
  11. Security reset should be: close all doors and turn key in driver door 3 times (turn top of the key backward 3 times)

  13. US customers expect reliability you say? Did i read that right? That's the one thing that US cars dont do so well with and people contunue to buy them in north america (though they are losing steam real fast now. Seen the latest car company sales graphs?). Could you expand on that cause I dont get that... Even with all their options, the Japanese cars are more reliable compared to the flat model american cars...

You know what buddy...you're right!!! The one interior pic with the steering and tv is an ebay pic (note the little camera icon in the bottom corner). I smell conspiracy here... <_<
  15. Yup, the only options are rear and rear door curtains and stuff like foot rests and better floor mats. Real diplomat cruiser.
  16. Actually, I owned a Crown when i lived in Trinidad. It was the G version with the Lexus v8, air suspension, TV with nav in the dash and all the other goodies. We had a problem with the air sus (this was about 10 years ago) so we called Toyota Japan and what they said was simply that this version of the car was never supposed to leave Japan so they couldnt help us at all. We figured out the problem but it shows how well they take care of themselves. They keep their best for themselves and i can't blame them. They are way ahead of the rest. That car I had was a 1989 model!!
  17. I would love for them to produce a V12 LS but why dont they do it? Toyota does produce a V12 (1GZ-FE) but they have reserved it for their Toyota Century Sedan. I've never seen it in any other car. It is a 5.0 with all the electronic bells and whistles (drive by wire and what not). These are the only images i could find of the engine: As usual, the quoted Japanese numbers on the engine are wrong (to curb taxation) :chairshot: . Over 278hp they get charged more tax so they always quote 276hp. The torque however is quoted at just around 400lb/ft. It is quoted at around 17 mpg. It's a pity they dont make an LS version with this engine in it. I'd LOVE to see what it would put out if it was "re-tuned" by some crazy North American. They really should step up into that super-high performance luxury segment. The car they use it in is a beast on the outside but a limo inside. Strange looking really. However it is designed to be a lightly armoured car so... It would be around $200,000 if they brought it our way. And the inside pics will show that it is definitely above the class of the LS. More around the Maybach or the S600. Toyota Century This is in the back seat

Looks amazing, sound amazing on paper too... Reading some of the buyer reviews on msn scares me tho...seems like it definitely isnt lexus reliability. There's actually people who traded it back in early and got a 430. Keep us updated on ow she treats you. She is one sexy beast though...gotta give you that! Looks like one of those women who you look at but don't touch cause you know she'll break you... :P The idea of a stock tuned Ls just makes my mind reel. Lexus should really try that out. Everyone knows that the uz can crank out 500hp if asked to. They should go for it.
  19. I've considered cutting into the cd changer system lines and replacing or adding to it's output lines with inputs for an mp3 player... Anyone tried something like this at all? Would be better sound quality but i dont really know if it will work...
  20. I'd say dont use the retractable mirrors at all in the winter...that is unless they're set on atuo or something.
  21. Seems like you're still driving it...you nuts?
  22. Your pistons are probably stuck...you just need to go to a brake shop and hope that your rotors arent already damaged. If you are diy, you'd need to take them apart and rebuild them back to spec. http://www.lexls.com/tutorials/brake/fbcaliper.html Check this out on how to do it. Otherwise i'm sure midas will be obliged. There is a chance that it could be something more like your master cylinder but I think it is probably the pistons. Good luck.
  23. Well said bro...this isn't a really sweating bullets forum...
  24. Still working on getting my mp3 player to be really good in the car and i was wondering if anyone has tried a WIRED FM modulator yet. Right now i use a Belkin Tunecast which is the typical fm transmitter. It works but here in Vancouver there is a station almost within every 0.6mhz so there is always another station breaking in. These wired ones are supposed to be really good because they actually block out the other stations when they are in use and they plug directly into the antenna socket behind the stereo so they also arent really subject to signal degradation so it's pretty much as good as FM can get. I havent seen much mention of these in the forums tho. LINK: THIS IS THE ONE I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT Within my logic, this seems to be the best alternative before cutting into the stock system wires. Does anyone have experience with these? How good is the sound and are there any tips/warnings that I should note in getting one? NB: there are WIRELESS ones that work just like the Tunecast and can go in the trunk and transmit from there. The ones i'm referring to are the ones that plug DIRECTLY into the stereo.
  25. Well this thread has gone completely awry!! Anywho...I still believe in Japanese innovation. Some believe just in attempted and assumed american supremecy. Human differences I guess. I just know that i would choose careful and expensive refinement over cheap and flashy crap anyday. The world is busy enough without having to deal with recalls every year and in my opinion, i prefer to spend more now and live in peace rather than spending less now and knowing that something on my car was badly designed and will probably kill a few people...except no one knows what it will be yet. :o FYI: there has been 4 safety recalls in the whole 16 year history of the LS series and they were for crap like the 3rd brake light. The CTS has been in production for only 3 years and has already been recalled 4 times for safety concerns... But that seems to be the way it goes with domestics. Get it out quick and work out the problems when they show up (generally in the form of a wreck). <_< Two ways to do everything i guess...
