  1. Wow, I never knew that. You'd think that having your speed where you dont have to look down would help. I'll see if i can read more on that.
  2. This is the original auction Pics are at the bottom of the page. I am referring to the HUD. I believe that I've seen it available on some other car (a Caddy maybe) but i'm not sure if it was an option on a Lex.
  3. I was looking for a future model of the SC and i came across this...gem. It was labelled as the Lexus Landau. Anyone have any info on this?
  4. Junkyard would only be cheaper if they allow you to take the leather off the seats (which i doubt they will). Otherwise they'll be charging for the seat and considering the elctronics... Upholstery shop should be cheapest depending on how much damage your seats have (amount of replacement) and if you have to do the back seats too etc. I say you find an upholsterer and get a quote then work from there.
  5. You can check this out. The make great stuff and you can even get the seats customised if you want.
  6. You're gonna have to buy yourself a replacement. none of the old ones work anymore, in fact i'm not sure if they really still make many new ones. The only one i could find is the Nokia 6090. it's actually still in production. I found ONE on ebay and it'll cost ya too...this one is listed at around $325 with shipping. Ebay 6090 Motorola m900 is another but i think it mounts differently. I guess the way of today is handsfree bluetooth and voice dailing. Or if you're lucky, bluetooth through the system like the 2005 LS.
  7. Man, I thought we were ahead of the game. We are so far behind. I still don't have a navigation. I was thinking about getting a 99 RL with nav for my wife and trade in the 91 Legend LS. I still really like the Legend, but it's beginning to have too many minor problems to keep. Like the Ignition Switch. Had it replaced but it still gives us problems occasionally. Water leaking somewhere in the rear drivers side and the front window motors have just about had it. Hate to disappoint you but North America is far FAR behind of the game. Cars built here are still inferior quality. Something else i noticed when i moved here is that the engines here are just HUGE and yet they offer less performance and horrible gas mileage. Case in point: Lancer evolution engine; 2.0l 4 banger + twin turbo. 320 hp! (the sites say something like 280hp but the japanese stop at that number to avoid extra taxes in Japan). It also gets an average of 24 mpg. And the v6 in the IS, 300hp and 28mpg hwy. Any North American engine outputing over 300 hp is a v8 and generally gets around 19mpg. JD Powers seems to agree too because their initial quality study is completely led by Asian companies. Even Hyundai seems to be kicking butt. I was surprised at how bad BMW and Mercedes are doing though. But i guess the Asian companies go for refinement where the US goes for brute force and shiny stuff.
  8. Speaking of Japanese advances and individuality, how's this for the new bB (known in North America as the xB). Think they would bring this beast to our parts? I think the first one was pushing it...
  9. Thing is though, in Japan, navigaton/TV was available from the factory in cars as lowly as the civic since the early 90's. This image is from a 94 Japanese Civic and that is stock equipment! Expensive option for a Civic buyer tho.
  10. It's almost shag... I've noticed in all the cars that we've imported from japan that the Japanese seem to like stuff like crochet and the like covering their seats...
  11. I'm pretty sure they would have settled on the Lexus name a few years in advance. The LS was already complete and named in 1989.
  12. Soon as they're legal to bring into Canada i plan on getting one of these. It's a 92 Toyota Crown Majesta. It's Toyota's best below the Celsior (LS) and the Century. They're RHD only but they have all the features of an LS and more and it comes with the same engine. The current Majesta is simply a sight to behold...IMO anyway. I LOVE these cars. Current Model Top set is for the rear A/C controls. (ON/OFF; Temp up/down digital; blower speed) Bottom set (next to lighter) is stereo controls (tuning; vol; mode; ON/OFF) Attachments don't work right now for some reason i have better ones but they're in my PC. My dad imports from Japan to Trinidad so i have passwords for a lot of the Japanese auction sites where they have lots of pics.
  13. The ones in the first picture are standard...yes standard equipment. The ones in the armrest are optional features. Both work at the same time but i guess you don't always have your armrest down...
  14. This is the rear controls on the 1992 Toyota Crown This is the TV/Navi in the 1992 Crown (RHD obviously) I'm searching for some pics of the rear controls and the armrest controls in the '86. Ok i found the controls in a 1989 Toyota Celsior (LS400). It's the same in the car that my parents own. This option wasnt offered in the US in the 1990 LS *Here we see the controls for the rear seat recliners at the top of the armrest (far left of pic) *Just below that is the controls for the stereo and for the Rear independent A/C *The two bottons below that are for the rear seat heaters (on my parent's '86 that control was on the door armrests) *Below that is the tape player and the two headphone jacks below it. *The little box above the headphone jacks is the case for the headphones. *And in the pocket section you can see the remote control for the TV. Cool stuff especially considering that in Japan all that was available in 1986!!! :o
  15. My parent's Toyota Crown (1986) (in Trinidad) has controls for the whole stereo in the back seat but in addition, inside the armrest pocket in the rear seat, it has an individual tape player and radio tuner. It also has rear heated seats and massage on the passenger side in the back. The other Toyota Crown they own (1992) has an onboard TV/Computer/Navigation (stock) and even has in infrared remote like you'd have in your house.
  16. This is from Wikipedia... "An image consulting firm presented a list of 219 names, from which Vectre, Verone, Chaparel, Calibre and Alexis were top candidates. While Alexis quickly became the front runner (possibly due to the association with the Alexis Carrington character on the popular 1980s primetime drama Dynasty) and later morphed to Lexus, the name has been attributed to the combination of the words "luxury" and "elegance." According to Toyota, however, the name had no meaning and was just meant to be pleasing and easy to remember. Just prior to the release of the first vehicles, the database service LexisNexis obtained a temporary injunction forbidding the name Lexus from being used as they stated it might cause confusion. Upon reflection, the court lifted the injunction, deciding that there was a low likelihood of confusion between the two products."
  17. If i could pull over 2500lbs across the continent (Vancouver to Niagara) over 5000km in my BEATER '90 FORD TAURUS with over 300,000km on it (engine had 190,000) I'm pretty confident that an LS would deal with anything you throw at it. The worst part was that Canadian rockies where i was sometimes going 30kph uphill for 15 mins at a time because the piece of crap transmission wouldnt shift to gear 2. I just think that if a piece of crap Ford with a 150hp 3.0 V6 can handle that kind of drive the LS should be fine doing whatever you want as long as you dont get rediculous with the weight. The LS is heavier and sturdier than that Taurus and i dont think you have 300,000km on your car either.
  18. How come when it comes to Lexus people always compare the design to other cars? I dont get that... How about we start comparing a few other cars and see what we come up with?
  19. Well it looks like the finally did what i thought they would do and they introduced all the technology that they had in the Century sedan (minus the huge rear center console with the TV). The have definitely made themselves a BEAUTIFUL car though. 8 speed? you must be kidding me! THAT"S AWESOME!! But then mid 20's economy!!! Only Lexus would pull that off. These people break new ground at every release and that's why I'm a Lexus owner. They definitely live up to "The relentless persuit". I'm just stunned. :o. Now i wish i didnt have a life just so i could afford to buy the first one in the dealership. lol.
  20. If the actual airbag deployed it would probably hurt her! :o
  21. When i said 0 i means celsius. so that would be below 32 far.
  22. You guys should make it a habit of using your credit card even through paypal. Most credit card companies will honour your stolen money on there though it may take a while. Paypal does help you out as does ebay but it does take a while. I'm a frequent seller as well as a buyer on ebay and i can say that the times that i have had problems they have been there for me. I think paypal works because pretty much, unless the seller gives them a tracking number and proof that it arrives, paypal has the right to take money directly from their credit card or bank account to pay you back. It doesnt get much better than that. They take it right out of his pocket to put it back into yours. I've had it done before. Credit card through paypal is the way to go though. Two levels of protection. I would think that ebay would block his credit card(s) by now so he cant get any more accounts...unless he has a heck of a lot of creditcards.
  23. The A/C comes on to activate the condenser to dry the air out so that any frost on the inside of the car glass can be removed. Adding humidity to a frosty inside window doesnt help the situation. So even if it is freezing below 0, the A/C system will come on not to cool the car, but to activate the condenser which will dry the air so the defroster can remove condesation inside the car. The a/c system has to be activated with the defroster for it to do it's job.
  24. What i found crazy is that they're selling on ebay for over $1,000 some of them cause it's so hard to get right now. Amazing system though. Billy boy sure knows how to make his money. This is one of the biggest debuts ever!
  25. I really doubt there would be a difference like that. Never heard of a different suspension for euro and us by default. I think they'll be the same. Either air or coil.
