  4. Being cheap doesn't make you bad it shows your wisdom ;) Lifetime on the reman alt. sounds inviting, You don't always have to go OEM brand new. I'm glad you fixed the problem.
  5. OK, What's the trick? Copied and pasted then it says ADD FILE? WTF Nothing???????????????
  6. Yes, You can change the needles, They just pull off [ when pulling them off use a firm slow pull ] Grab the needle by the base and firmly pull off. Here is my recomendation, Replace all of the bulbs first and reinstall the cluster, When the cluster is back where it belongs you can take out the screws that hold just the smoked faceplate [ the piece you can see through ] Have the car warmed up to operating temp, turn the car off and pull the temp needle and push the new one on and start the car and see if the temp needle is where it is suposed to be [ like the old one ] There is a 45 degree adjustment for all the needles so by taking them off and pushing them back on to a different guage setting can be achieved. [ repeat for the tach needle ] There might be a little trial and error getting the right needle reading but that is it. You can just ut the needles on when you have the custer out but you are going to need to adjust them anyway and the more you install/reinstall the cluster the ore your chances are that you are going to break something. Good Luck Great! This sounds relatively uncomplicated. The dealer I spoke to about the needles told me they wouldn't just replace the needles, they would have to replace the whole cluster and it would be a $2k job! My guess is that once the cluster is back in place in the dash after changing the backlighting bulbs, the neg. terminal for the battery can stay connected while playing with the proper placement of the needles. Thanks for all your help dcfish.....much appreciated. If all else fails you can get a brand new cluster here: http://www.luxurymods.com/ProductDetail.ph...ID=527&fid=1020 Let me know how everything works out. ;)

  8. Could be aftermarket, Maybe if we could see some pix. :whistles:
  9. I just bought a 98 LS400 with Nav and it is DVD based. It has been upgraded once by a previous owner because it says the version is current as of 2000. I too am looking into upgrading the DVD so any info anyone gets would be most appreciated. I will be calling the dealer to get specifics so I can see if the DVDs on ebay are compatible. I am curious as to know if you actually have a DVD based system, or the "Hard Disk" based system standard in 1998 nav systems. If you have a 98 nav then it is harddrive driven NOT dvd, Guaranteed 100% The last harddrive update was for 2003. Some good hacks can upload the current dvd update onto the harddrive but that is a hay colored needle in a haystack. If your 98 has a dvd based computer then the nav has been upgraded to a newer year.
  10. I misunderstood you, Yeah, Then it sounds like the alternator [ they aren't cheap ] I hope all is well soon for you. Merry Christmas, Happier Holidays
  11. I think I'll get my eyes checked Well if you put in another good battery and got home what makes you think it is anything else? I don't think a alternator will just take a sh$t sitting there. I would install a brand new battery [ you need one anyway ] Reset the ECU and go for a spin.
  12. I wish I had rear air so I could be a helping hand, Sorry Try here: http://au.lexusownersclub.com/forums/
  13. Bragging up your new ride by linking from cl is lame :chairshot: , Make a full fledged post here. The ES looks like it is in pretty good shape, But I'm sure that there are alot of things that need attention before you get that confident feeling.
  14. My bet is on the battery, Get a new one. ;)
  15. I understand most of these instructions but what does "the lights are part of a twist base with a slot for a flat head screw driver" mean? Does this mean that the light bulb base is the Turn-and-Lock type? If so, what is the flat head screw driver needed for? Should the car battery be disconnected before changing the cluster backlight bulbs? Thanks, Lexucan You definetly have to disconnect the neg. terminal from the battery first [if you don't your airbag light will stay on and have to be reset at the dealer ] The bulbs are pushed into the base which twists out of the circuit board, You have to twist out the base to get to the bulb. You can twist the bulb/base out with your fingers so you don't need a screwdriver. Circled in red in the attached pic are the acc. bulbs along the bottom of the cluster as you can see they are easy to twist out, I recomend changing all the bulbs while your in there [ TAKE A SMALL KNIFE AND SLIGHTLY PRY OUT THE CONTACTS ON EACH BULB BEFORE REPLACING THEM SO THEY WON'T VIBRATE LOOSE, Or you will have to bang on the top of the dash to get them to work], You'll have to remove both circuit boards to access all the bulbs. I have had the ES cluster apart more times that I would care to mention. If you have more Q's I will answer them for you if I can.
  16. Sweet looking ride you got there Keep up the good work. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays !

  18. Salvage, Frack! :cries: I have an 02 donor I'm was using to swap the parts, but I'm screwed, all the connects are differnt, seats, doors, everything! I'll have to get an 05 donor.. Good luck with the project, Damn, looks like too much work and may cost too much time/money to be worth it.
  19. Again :chairshot: Read my reply on the last 'GS with 20's" topic. I do like the color.
  20. Thanx Santa, My fingers are hurtin too Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays
  21. You should have a blast in the 250, Power isn't everything [ thats why I went with the 300 over the 400 ] Post some pix when the time comes.
  22. Thanks for the reply guys. The theft was a bit more than the headlights... Anyway insurance is not involved here, I'm putting the car back together, and called the dealer, the parts guy stated that the wiring harness is different for the headlights in 05 vs. 02 and it wouldn't fit, I'll snap a pic of the o2 harness and then how they were cut on my 05, I'd like to see if the stealer, I mean dealer was full of s**t. Thanks again guys. B) Was the car stolen then chopped? Or was this done on the street?
  23. Yeah, I have ordered several manuals several times in the past 6 months and still haven't received one, I called customer service several times and confirmed the order and still nothing, POOR SERVICE, Lexus really has to get there website together, Nothing but problems for them and it makes them look bad.
  24. Sounds like it has something to do with the key barrel, It may be a loose contact inside the barrel itself so when you rotate the key it isn't coming in full contact with the different switches [on, acc, start etc...] Just a thought.
