  1. threadcutter......Thats "HEADLEY".............
  2. Ill put in my word for the goodyear comforttreads, i have tremendously impressed with them, i got them last january of 05 and we had a banner year of rain so cal, and these things rocked. really comfortable, high rolling resistance apparently though. jus' mah $0.02.
  3. Fredd: Yep, except, when your timing belt goes "doink" because the water pump seized up, your engine won't "explode". It'll just stop running. nc's valves & pistons will get real cozy real quick if his timing belt goes. nc; It sure seems as though that "new" water pump should have lasted longer than this. If you think about it though (at times like this, Johnny Walker Black helps), what choice do you have? Bite the bullet & get it replaced. It sounds "vewwy, vewwy suspicious" as to whether or not the stealer actually replaced the pump. On the other hand, it could be a seal in the (new) pump has let go prematurely. Idler S/A, Timing Belt most likely refers to the timing belt tensioner. I don't think there should be any letters in the P/N though. It seems odd that they would replace the tensioner & not the pump. I was thinking about you/your exploits this weekend while I was taking off my "cheap aftermarket" rotors & putting my "turned" original/OEM rotors back on the car. Front end wobble (sometimes violent) under braking.....etc. I rebuilt all calipers (brain dead simple) beacuse I "think" I had a sticking piston in my front right caliper. Anyway, the front right (el cheapo) rotor measured about .015" out of round, prior to removal. Put the "turned" originals back on & life is good (so far). Does anyone know if the Akebono Pro Act Ceramics could be the root cause of the warped rotor(s)? Can anybody tell me where i can find a "shrubbery"?
  4. ezekielj007: I just remembered......................Stay away from it if it has air suspension! Costs a fortune to fix WHEN it goes out. Other than that, I think you should go for it, provided you've checked out all the items that everybody has replied to this thread with. hey, ezekielj007' if you listen to these guys and it all checks out good then GO FOR IT!!!! I bought my ls for $100 cheaper then yours and its a 92 with similar mileage. Car is champ-i promise when getting on the highway you will prefer to drive this car-if not this particular one try autotrader and you'll find one. Look at it this way-$4300 + say $3000 in replacement stuff, etc, etc and you WILL have a vitually brand new car...good luck and let us know what the color and options, etc are....
  5. actually thats what i meant, i just did a flush with the red toyota stuff, and the car feels great, cost me twice as much, i think thats what akewlguy meant by "pink" ,by the way. I struggled with whether to go with toyota or aftermarket and i feel that i made the correct decision.
  6. nc, lets all hope that this is the emd of that particular road for ya'!?! Might i suggest,if your not into going terribly fast look into the goodyear comforttreads, ive been really happy with them, very comfortable,80,000 mile tires, and i believe goodyear needs these tires to succeed so they will make it worth your while to check them out. Gas mileage will decrease a bit until they wear in, but the tires have some sort of chemical in the side wall that makes it always look shiny black. $0.02.
  7. for about a hundred bucks or so,you could just put new rotors on the fronts and start from scratch. I put new rotors on my LS aout 4 months ago tola price and labor was $130 bucks, maybe not oem parts, but better than what i had which was the pulsing thing. Google lexus/toyota parts and youll find some good prices for the parts.
  8. There is a web site called TIS where you can get for $10, a day subscription, and download the entire manual.
  9. how would one know if they have heated mirrors? if i do there are no controls, would it be connected to the defrost circuit? Thanks in advance.
  10. hey sapper, i had the same problem. Take a screwdriver and carefully pry off the tweeter cover(there is just clips holding it on) then there will two screws that hold the mirror assembly to the door, undo those and then you can get to the screws on the bottom of the assembly and tighten them.
  11. hello, im going to do a flush and refill tomorrow and i was wondering if you could tell me where that "heater hose is located,as that seems like a much better way to do the flush. On a side note i contacted the local toyota dealer and their prices were $20 for the "pink" and $25 for the "red" per gallon, local lexus dealer only had the "red" and was,get this, only $18 per gallon, suffice to say i went with the lexus.
  12. here in southern califonia, the cost toyota coolant is about twice that of autostore stuff, my question is would anyone say that red/pink aftremarket stuff is "good enough" for my beloved ls? I know and respect toyota purist views and would like to go that route but, it is about twice the price and less convenient to get, being that i have to go to a toyota dealer, instead of autozone which is two blocks away,or so.
  13. hello all, ive been thinking about cleaning the MAF on my 1992 ls. ive done some searches on this site and there seems to be conflicting views about about how, if at all, so no and so forth. Ive also seen the tutorial on this site but that is a later ls. So my question is, does any one have a definitive, safe procedure for doing first gen MAFs? If the guy from lexls is here, have you ever done this? would you be willing to put up a tutorial if you have?
  14. hello i was wondering if this problem was ever solved? from reading the about the problem a flag went up in my grey matter that, perhaps o2 sensors and/or cats?
  15. okay guys thanks for shedding some light on the valve issue although it may seem that there is some disagreement about whether or not damage can occur, maybe someone else can weigh in? On a different note i used to run 20-50 in my integra cause i would drive 30-40,000 miles a year going from hollywood to south orange county to inland empire almost daily, i thought that would be good protection, however my integra lost a cylinder at 213,000 and i dont think that shoulda happened as well as the motor had numerous leaks, and i attribute that to mostly being because of my insistence that i use 20-50.
  16. a good question, i have read where people say that valve clatter on this car can end ruining the motor over time, does anyone have a definitive answer to this? thanx in advance
  17. damn can i try again ? the other man is the first mans son. THE main guy is the other guys father. i do really need those shocks............thanks if i am correct.
  18. he is the other mans cousin- and i do need these :)
  19. hey kewlguy, EVERYBODY on this site says use the red/pink stuff, something about the chemistry/formulation that is correct for the ls system do a search, somewhere in like the first 50 pages or so there is a lengthy and comprehensive debate about red v. green and why. check it out, its really good.
  20. Hi THanks for the suggestion ,however, What does that mean "direct parts" that would seem to be a toyota/lexus only part. Do you mean someone else makes that part or get it from the guy lexus gets it from? how do i do that? Thanks again for the help, that odo problem is one id really like fix.
  21. fwiw, thanks for the picture,it is NOT a toyota part, only a lexus part. $150 i was quoted, special order.
  22. may be right about the noise sw, but with all windows closed on the highway at decent clip, say 80 mph, its pretty quiet, although i dont have any other reference, i dont like going too fast in this car but i think thats more due to really worn shocks/suspension items, not sure what the speed rating is come to think of it, hmm good point, but in all other regards this rubber is doing very well,in fact after about 10,000 miles or so i am seeing the mileage rise a tad. From what ive read goodyear really put a tremendous effort into these tires. Not trying to shill fo goodyear just very pleased with them, thats all.
  23. i too have this problem, except my odo never clicked just stopped. Someone here says that those gears just kinda die, but now i wonder if it is indeed my cable. I hate keeping track of mileage with a one of the trip meters. Does anyone know where one could actually find a new or used odo? online? without searching the junkyards? is that sorta illegal or just kinda shady at best?
