  1. if i ever drive to colorado with my silver 92, we can have a sequetial model year meeting. Kinda interesting thing about these cars is that they are truly appreciated by all races and creeds. Here in socal, asian,white,latino,african-american, middle-eastern, ive run into all of the the above and have had gushing/glowing conversations about our LS's. Even male and female. Ahhhh, serendipity.....
  2. Wow that sounds like a lot of work. Did you say you removed thee transmission? Good stuff either way.
  3. no conflict, just an exchanging of ideals/ideas, btw sw03es, i think it was blake i meant to respond to not you....
  4. The point about e85 and sugar vs. corn is that it is a sugar is a superior option AND CAN,swes330, be grown here, last time i checked us wacky californians ARE the worlds highest producers of sugarcane. My point was in the context of my previous post is that America often doesnt take the best course of action for all, but the most profitable action for the parties that are already invested. Thats as non-partisan as it gets. Did anyone see the special on cnn about brazil? 1 4000 acre sugarcane farm can power(fill up) 11,000 cars per day. Higher octane, less efficiancy. As clean or cleaner than corn ethanol. Oh and the plant that refines the sugar? powered by.........sugar. But were not going to this.....all the crops we pay farmers to destroy, to not ruin markets....sugarcane......faced with this reality it really makes hydrogen seem kinda silly at least in the near future. I am a pretty moderate "lefty" yet i didnt have the need to insult anybody.........smoke that.
  5. its called sarcasm guys. In other words, from the speakers point of view "i told you so". A strong argument can be made that high oil prices are due to world instability right? It could be argued that OUR CURRENT government has contributed greatly to the destabilization of the worlds economic condition. On a completely Bi-partisan bent we as americans have been held hostage by a greedy infrastructure of oil. I live in Los Angeles. the public transportation system is joke at best. Back in the 1940's l.a. had a very good mass-transit system that was prchased by standard oil and dismantled, all the while angelinos were encouraged to move to suberbs, hence being forced to buy petrol in order to drive to work. That is true story. If youve ever seen who framed roger rabbit? that premise is based on fact. Now everybody is talking about switching to corn ethanol or e85 as a substitute for petrolium. What no one will tell you is corn ethanol takes as much energy to produce as it gives off. Sugar ethanol is much more efficient, produces higher octane, but less mileage and is so clean burning it is not even funny. Point is even if we were to switch to corn-ethanol we would be using an inferior energy means yet again due to the fact that there is already a corn lobby and infrastructure in place in america. Conversely they pay about $1.75 U.S. PER LITER!!! =$7.00 U.S. IN EUROPE and have been paying twice as much for a long time. But they have efficient means of mass transit and not our fat cat, greed driven, oil based infrastructure that our country is so infected with.

  7. perhaps it is just what you said, put a fresh brand new battery in your car and see if it persists. When batteries start to go bad, potentially in any electronic device, funny things can happen. Try that first. Or take your battery to an autozone type place and they will test its ability to hold charge.
  8. there is a web site(company) called superbrightleds.com that have waht you need and they also cross-reference their leds to popular bulbs i.e, 1157= whatever. Not a very easy site you may have to root around a bit. Actually they have made this site better since i was last there...
  9. good lookin feldes, by the way i never did thank you for the hood shocks, i did recieve them and still havent installed them yet, but much thanks again
  10. in response to the earlier queries, the a/c is simply not cold never has been since i bought the car, this guy was fairly honest and was recommended from my regular mechanic whom i trust. Basically they filled it up and almost all the gas escaped immediatly through the evap unit, now they said that there could a valve inside the evap that could be the culprit...$500 parts and labor.....or it could be the evap itself...$1000 parts and labor......however the kicker is he said the compressor IS noisy already and if i were to replace that.....$2000.....so $500 is agamble that may or may not solve the issue......and your right i should try another opinion, seeing that this guy was an a/c only shop.....But what if i were to buy an evap unit myself, put it on and then try to have it filled?? is that just no good for some reason????
  11. kewl, your ls looks really good man, what year is it again?
  12. just took my ls to an a/c guy said evaporator is leaking, could be valve inside evap,if so $500, if it is evap $1000 if compressor is bad $2000 :cries: :cries: :cries: :cries: :cries: :cries: :cries: i guess im doomed as far as a/c is concerned, i love this car but $2000 would be tune-up and shocks and ball joints etc....AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGHHHHHHHHH
  13. ive noticed in pretty much every car ive ever driven, and i ve driven ALOT on the california highways, that regardless of speed, if you can use cruise control it always makes pretty significant difference in consumption, id say there is definately something to be said for c.c. For example coming back home from camp pendleton(brother is a marine) to where i live in upland, on an open 5 freeway, with c.c. on i used about 4 gallons or so to go about 110-115 miles.
  14. oem shocks approx. $50 each. $300-$500 other parts, not labor. off the top of my head.
  15. Srk, i completely agree, cars do always seem quicker with a fresh wash. My apologies.
  16. i was a huge acura/honda proponent for the longest time, i started with a 93 integra and just loved that car immesely, i always hated toyotas for their conservative blandness, until i got my ls00,anyhoo the thing about hondas is they are able to extract power from engines that should never be able to output what they do, sweet engineering, but their is a trade-off for making say, an average-sized v6,non aspirated v6,in 1997, perform like say a 2005 maxima does now.....food for thought.....
  17. my 92 gets anywhere from 16-20 mpg stop and start in city driving however on the highway i can average about 24-26mpg....im not complaining all things considered. Congrats on your mileage if figure out why, please let us know....
  18. hey man, i would change tires and do as much little stuff as possible, going with the most important stuff first. I have a 92 with about the same mileage as yours if i had a grand to spend right now i would redo the suspension parts ane replace the shocks/struts. In all likelyhood i could use timing belt change, distributor, plugs wires and all that, but even through a good indie thats still well over $1000. Now if your mechanically inclined you could buy all the parts for above tune-up and still have a little leftover to where you still maybe buy two tires for now, or maybe have ALL the fluids replaced, air filter all stuff. Try handwriting a list of everything you could think of doing, search on the internet for parts and pricing, call around a few trusted shops ask them what things would cost and then wittle the list from there in order of importance.......ill stop now :whistles:
  19. well im not the original owner of this car so i cannot say how long that oil was in there but it didnt look good coming out....probably has lost some of its properties. Oh maybe im just crazy and there is no difference , that or i am just lying...... srk are implying that i dont know my car or that im so ignorent that i would fall for "the placebo" effect of changing my oil in diff? I greatly respect your opinions and enjoy very much reading you, however i cant stand being condescended to.
  20. my car is about 245,000(my odo broke a year ago) it really made a difference in acceleration smoothness, also in stopping a "turbulence" from the drive wheels that i didnt realize was there until it was gone.
  21. I changed my diff. oil today and what significant difference it made, not major but significant in a subtle way, smoother acceleration, and just seemingly more tranquil ride.....good stuff....i recommend doing this, i know the heavy hitters do this already but for newbies like me it was eye opening.
  22. it was just a couple pics, no big deal. when im on this site my family disappears. This is automobile repair primarily, to generalize. Really so what? You had to look for it anyway, and "children" could find much, much worse without looking at a lexus forum. I think its a bit puritannical really.
  23. i like dusts simplified take on it. It seems that lexus is quickly gaining the knowledge and wherewithall to soundly re;reliably, creep into the performance end of all as well......
  24. i protest this being removed, this is a site for the boys, for the most part
  25. Hey Bradicus, i too am in so. cal, also with a 92. What dealership told you this? Ive known people that have worked at crown in ontario, who have advised me never, ever to go there. But ive heard great things about longo in el monte, and no matter where i go be it beverly hills, the westside, newport beach etc, I ALWAYS see new lexus with paper longo tags on them.....f.w.i.w.
