  1. I don't think so, they were used to make you car look cool, A few lights in the grill, fuzzy dice on the mirror, and flames pained on the hood and side, what more could a person want? Nope we had one white light with faceted lens in the middle of the grill, not the cowboy stuff you're talking about. They were "safety" lights. That othe stuff you're talking about was cowboy bull*BLEEP*.
  2. Gee, back in the 60's we used to add small lights to the grill wired up to the ignition primary so we'd have some visibility.
  3. The TSB only applies to the IS 350, not the IS 250. Are the brake pads different for each vehicle? This one refers to the IS350 and the GS. I don't know if there's one for the IS250.
  4. Read your owners manual or search.
  5. We told you what we know. I suggest installing a remote start already.
  6. TSB is post #13 here: http://my.is/forums/f126/tsb-codes-you-wer...our-car-309244/
  7. If you use naphtha, make sure your outside and have all the car windows down and no smoking or other flame sources. It's quite similar to lighter fluid or camp stove fuel.
  8. I believe the car will run an drive until it is shut off. And true, you can't lock the doors with the car running either. If you really want to do this, you'd probably have to install a remote start setup.
  9. There are two trip meters on the speedo panel. You can reset one whenever and let the other one accumulate.
  10. The average age of IS buyers is considerably lower than that of the average Lexus buyer. That would seem to be the general aim of producing a sporty/luxury car. Most of the info you're looking for is already here in the forums if you're not too old to use the search feature. The "build your own" on the Lexus website is usually up to date and availbable options vary from region to region.
  11. Make sure the little shelf in the glove box is properly attached.
  12. Catz is good. I had a set about 5 years ago on a Civic. They were just fine.
  13. Just avoid running at constant speeds for long distances for the first 600 miles or so. It's in the owners manual. Usually normal traffic will take care of that for you.
  14. It's a good place to plug in your radar detector. You can use the ash tray for coins, or chewing gum wapper disposal, or whatever. I've known people who keep their roach clip in there. :D
  15. That unit doesn't come with gromets. It's better to seal it yourself. Make as small a hole as possible and seal it up with silicone sealer. Don't put the dust cover over the wires. That will leak moisture too.
  16. 1. $500 over invoice is a great deal, especially this time of year. 2. I bought the first IS350 that came in to the dealership in October of 2005. I've been loving it ever since. Some say the steering doesn't have enough "feel" but I find it very precise and quite controllable. Ride is a little firm but very good considering how well the car handles. The brakes are some of the best out there. I had a IS300 before and this is a great step up. 3. I talked to the dealer serive coordinator and it's ok to do my own checks and services up to the 24 months inspection. I have a private shop change the oil every 3000 miles and buy my oil, air and A/C filters online from Irontoad. I plan to have the dealer do the 24 month serivce except for the oil and filter. That will consist mostly of brake fluid and coolant changes. I expect that will cost around $200. Other than oil and filter changes there really isn't that much maintenance for the first 90000 miles. 4. I live in a small town and make mostly short trips and have been getting 20 MPG easily in this type of driving. On interstate trips I've gotten 26 MPG. So not bad for a 306 HP V-6.
  17. This one? http://www.l-tunedparts.com/product/?id=2168 Kinda expensive at $185. But it's JDM. :D
  18. I don't think that's right. I'll get 25-26MPG on cruise at 75MPH and at least half of the distance on my trips is through some pretty hilly country in TN and KY.
  19. You have to go in from behind by taking part of the fender liner loose. Here's a pretty good DIY. http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=223728
  20. http://my.is/forums/f87/mtec-hid-install-p...ght=HID+install http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=192254 http://my.is/forums/f87/mtec-hid-install-p...updated-272488/
  21. I haven't notice anything up to 120-130. Car feels very stable. I haven't stayed at those speeds for long, but have run for a few miles at 110 and not noticed anything unusual. Running tire pressures at 38 front and 40 rear.
  22. I put Fuzions on my IS300 and was impressed by the ride and handling, also not real noisy. I had them on about 5000 miles before I traded the car so I can't say how the mileage would be. I thought they were great and pretty inexpensive compared to many others.
  23. The steel key is just for emergency use for unlocking doors and the trunk and locking the glovebox. I don't think there's any programming for that. All the other functions are with the keyfob itself. Sorry, but I haven't heard of anyone having to replace one of those yet. I guess the dealer could tell you what needs done, but then I'd try to find someone else to do it.
  24. MTEC is good. They have the starter and ballast all in one unit. Installation isn't that hard except it's somewhat difficult to gain access to the covers behind the bulbs. Lots of people have done it though. I got the following set by making an offer of $300 for the 4500K. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAP...em=190107528632
  25. Insurance actually should come down as the replacement value of the vehicle depreciates. I know of some IS300's that are over 100,000 miles with no major problems. Just gotta make sure to change the timing belt when it's due, and keep the fluids changed out on time. Main problems have been CD changers failing. Parts, especially aftermarket are more plenitful now than they were two or three years ago.
