  1. Oh and this es330 was a special order from another couple, but they decided to back out or something. That's why the woman said it was very rare, actually i don't think there is another one like it anywhere unless specially ordered. the sticker on the inside door panel says December of 04. It's March!! It must have been hanging around for a while.
  2. Maybe the reason the sales "woman" LOL. :P .told me not to wax it was because they had already waxed it and didn't want me to waste my time. :o I really have no idea. I didn't really think this lady really knew what she was talking about in certain areas. She told me that VVT-I stood for some bazar thing, when i already knew it stands for variable valve timing with inteligence. She told me that the "windows" dimmed when headlights were to hit it; i think she meant rear view mirror, and she aso said that for x amount extra (which i took, that's why the price was high) i could get this special deal with services and free car washes at sooner intervals along with the warranty or something like that. Also did the warranty go down since last year? I got a 6yr warranty, when i thought it was 8. Huh i don't know !! I explained to the salesmoman exactly what i put in this post, so she said this deal was a good choice for me, considering i'm not exactly the "feel like doing it yourself" kind of guy. I know it's sad but i would rather spend a few extra thousand for someone else to do the dirty work. I have to admit i do cut the lawn though..This new John Deere riding mower is so nice (not as good as a Lexus LOL B) I also don't really argue with salesman/woman when knocking money off the sticker price. She said that this one was very rare, so i just took it. Another thing she said was that the color was indogo ink pearl when actually now as i look at it; i can tell it's more grayer. That !! LOL She must have been new there....I probably only spent maybe 45 minutes before i had the keys and drove it off the lot. Oh and another thing, on one of the remote keys the unlock button has a relief; a down arrow, while the other doesn't. but they both work so i don't care that much. I am just glad that the es is comfortable for her. she seems to like it very much, even though she only drove it about 10 minutes as the test drive with another es330. I took my 03 rx to the dealer with my wife, and I took the es back. WOW what a smoother ride!! she had to take rhe rx back home...ha ha <_< I told her i was testing it out LOL. i like the es better than the rx without a doubt! The ride of the sedan is much better than that of the suv, i don't care if it IS a lexus. I think i did make the right choice, just hope my wife takes good care of it, unlike with the gs.
  3. I just bought the new 05 es330 for my wife replacing her 03 gs430. since her gs had 79k miles and since it wasn't in such good shape, i didn't get much resale for it. I would like to keep this es330 a little longer and in better shape, so what should i do to keep it in perfect condition? What should i look out for; like problems with it etc. I don't know if the es330 will perform as well as the gs430 in the long run considering the diffrence in price. I spent $50,000 for the gs430 and $39,980 for the es330. what makes the price so different? what do i gain and loose besides engine size to make the price so different? The 05 es330 has every option available, pretty much the same as the gs except quality in my opinion. It's the same blue (they said it was a special order, except i never pre-ordered anything LOL) as her old gs with the ivory interior w/wood steering wheel etc.. The navigation screen seems small to me, but they said it was just a hint smaller than the gs screen. I like the gs climate control/radio button positions better but they all work correctly (all she cares about). It is much smaller than the gs, but still comfortable as i would expect from a Lexus. The ride is smooth and the gas mileage! wow the gas mileage amazes me! That's the best thing about going from a 4.3 liter v8 to a 3.3 liter v6. I can tell the acceleration is less but it is fair for the gas mileage. I asked the dealer about waxing it, and they said NOT to wax it for a while. does anyone know why they said not to wax it this early? I didn't wax the gs at all, and it is evident in the paint finish; i hope not to make the same mistake with the es330. My wife drives about 40k miles a year so i don't know if this changes how soon i should fix/add certain things etc. Anyone know of any ideas on what i should do first at this time? do you think the es330 will perform and last as long as the gs430? Did i make a mistake getting the 05 es330 rather than the new gs430? My daughter has a 2004 es330 but it's different in looks; the interior seems much to plain to me, and the exterior lights are much to boring compaired to the 2005's sleek projectors headlamps. I love the new steering wheels (except for wood color); similar to the rx330. The radio+ navi controls on the wheel is a great feature; the gs430 had them as well. I hope i made the right choice. does anyone have any input?
  4. It's also called a front spoiler. If you ever see drag racing or race cars you will see them there too (just larger). They keep the front end of the car closer to the ground which gives you more traction and less road noise. If you see spoilers on top of the rears of some cars they work the same way (well actually don't really work but it's the same idea) They are SUPPOSED to deflect the wind upward in the back which pushes the rear down. Nifty engineering. :)
  5. Since the day i got my rx330 last April i have never even opened it; maybe once or twice. I tried opening it this afternoon an hour ago, after being in the cold since 7am and it opened fine. Do you use it often? It could be from over-use combined w/ the cold. Do you keep it outside or do you gave a garage? The cold could develope frost which could freeze it cold.
  6. So you think a grille guard actually protects the bumper and headlights etc during accidents?
  7. Do you think the front stainless steel grille guards have an effect on accidents hitting airbag switches when they are needed? Does the metal prevent them from being turned on?
  8. Which of the following is the cheepest way to go when having to drive 40,000 miles a year? Have one car, and sell: -1 year after purchase with 40,000 miles -2 years after purchase with 80,000 miles -3 years after purchase with 120,000 miles -4 years after purchase with 160,000 miles -5 years after purchase with 200,000 miles -6 years after purchase with 240,000 miles -7 years after purchase with 280,000 miles Have 2 cars, and sell: -both of them 1 year after purchase with each having 20,000 miles -both of them 2 years after purchase with each having 40,000 miles -both of them 3 years after purchase with each having 60,000 miles -both of them 4 years after purchase with each having 80,000 miles -both of them 5 years after purchase with each having 100,000 miles -both of them 6 years after purchase with each having 120,000 miles Any other possible sugestions? The reason i'm asking you all this is because both my wife and i drive around 40,000 miles each year. In 03 she bought a gs and this year it already has 79k miles on it. The resale has dropped a lot because of the mileage and condition. I on the other hand have 2 cars. I have an 03 rx300 and 04 rx330. Every other day or so i take the other one, assuming that in 2 years each car will only have 40,000 miles (cut in half). Am i really saving anything? Am i making the right decision to have 2 cars at one time?
  9. lexkid630 u live in ri right? Thats only a few minuts from me. Would you be interesed in seling your 2003 gs430 to me? I could give you a good price I dont care about the milege or the scratches if it is working I would like it. I only driv a few minuts a day the 2003 is the best year i like it. I have not been abl to find a blue GS$#) and you are the only guy I kno that Has one selling. Is it posible to sell it to me? Are the rimss bad can I put 22' on them just wondering I really like the gs430. I hav a rx300 to and I need a Gs430. Sincerely, Mark G. ← I have not finally decided if i am selling it to a private party or to the dealer. if you want it this week or sooner i'll sell it to you for $25,000! I am not sure if i can get as much for it before i have it touched up. i will get back to you if i change my mind. I have never sold a car privately before and need more information to see if selling it to you is he best way to go for me. my gs430 has everything including navi, if that's what you're looking for. i will get back to you sometime. A will also have to talk to my wife first before i sell it. she will need to have some thing to get to work each day too! I think she's really attached to her gs!
  10. I was just on the LEXUS.COM website looking @ the new gs series. I stumbled across a new thing about how they're designing the gauge clusters using ECD Instrumentation. Here is copied text from the website: "This convenient feature ensures that you'll always be able to read your gauges, even if the angle or brightness of the sun doesn't cooperate. The Electronic Chromatic Device (ECD) system is activated by a sensor located in the rear window, which detects the amount of light being projected into the GS. At a certain level, the faces automatically lower their transparency level down to 30% to reduce glare and provide optimum visibility. " - http://lexus.com/models/gs/interior.html does anyone know or have any adeas as to how this system actually works? It it just the brightness of the lights, or tinting of the plastic covering?
  11. A lexus (under good care and regular services) whould last longer than 200,000 miles! My 92 sc (first year in production don't forget) lasted almost 300k miles before the transmission breaking, and i bet you it's probably still on the road today..it's not everyday you find a 13 year old car with a practically BRAND NEW transmission! As long as the car is treated well it should last a long time. Toyota (lexus) makes cars very well and very simple so not many things break. And i know that most diesel ran engines will last a long time because..well they just do.. I'm not sure if they'll last over 200k miles, but as does any other engine, it all depends on the way it was taken care of. The diesel fuel is thicker than gassoline, i don't know why that would help...??...
  12. I sold my 1992 sc400 in 2000 with 297,547 miles! It had regular services and oil changes etc. regurally, as suggested, done by the dealer. The transmission broke at 297,522 miles and was fixed for 5k. I sold it the week later for around 12 thousand. They are excelent cars!
  13. Your es is drffinetly beautiful. That color is amasing as well! It's the same as my daughters 04 es330, except hers is silver. I don't see her often at all so i don't know how well kept she has it. All i know is that it spends all of it's time driven by a 20 year old TEENAGER and is kept in a college parking lot. I don't realy want to know what it looks like, but i do know that she greatly appreciates it. And i'll tell you it's the only car she'll be driving from me, she's on her own after it dies. But i think i do give you the wrong impression about the GS. I took her car to work today and put it in the car wash. Looks very nice and is drying outside in the parking lot (all the way on the end next to a 10 ft pile of snow) of my busines. No kids so it should be safe LOL. I'll take your suggestion and find a detailer to tough up the scrathces and small marks on it. you can't tell body work was done except for the scrape on the front bumper. I'm not what worried i'll just get it fixed.
  14. It's not like my wife ABUSES it, actually the dents and 5 out of the 7 visible scratches are from kids in our area, grocery, stores and weather etc. She treats good care of it besides the way she drives. And i'm not feeling that she's abusing my money; she makes more than i do. To tell you the truth i could put a 1970 stationwagon in the garage and she wouldn't even notice the difference. Her theory is if it starts, is comfortable, is quiet and smooth she likes it. She's never the one who has to drive it to the series of dealers and shops to get it fixed when it breakes, what does she care! That's my job! That's why she doesn't take as good a care of it as she could. I'm not going to lie to you, she is indeed spoiled! Indeed lexus has been the most comfortable and enjoyable car i have ever owned. Can't say it's been the most reliable, but that's just from the way i drive it.
  15. I understand it's in pretty bad shape for a 2 year old car. I just wanted to make sure the dealer wasn't jipping me or anything. Maybe i will just take it then. It's just sad that it lost soo much money over the years. Even if it was good as new it would stil be around 25k dolars. You should have seen it the day we got it :) . It was so beautiful not a scratch or 3 miles on her. Al the toys i thought it would last forever; but not with the miles on it each year. The driving kills it. Now from a far it doesn't look that bad, just needs to be cleaned; all the road salt and dirt off it etc. I didn't even know wax really helped. I thought it was a gimic stupid me. You can't really tell there was body work on it; it's just a hunk of clay under paint. I'll clean it up and have the dents taken out and scratches and try to make it look better. I'm not that worried, but to tell you the truth i do feel bad for the person who gets this car next! Just goes to show you what you're really getting in a used car.
  16. I never really understood why car buyers are so afraid of a little body work. It's not like my wife hit head on with an 18-wheeler at 60 mph, she only managed to hit a 300lb deer at 30 mph !! Women drivers LOL Overall the car is in good shape. I am a little worried about the tansmission and engine though. I can't say she's a good driver, she's pretty agressive with acceleration and high speeds. The only time i drive with her is on day trips. Sometimes she'll hit 95+ mph on the highway!! Not 1 accident though; i mean besides the deer. I am not sure if her long distance driving is worse for the car vs shorter time distances. It usually takes her over an hour to GET to work! and another hour to get back. Driving from Newport (south eastern RI) to western Mass is an !Removed!! It takes me the same because we work a few blocks away. The reason i'm so worried about my cars and their problems is because i spend 2 hours EACH day in them. That's longer than how much sleep i get LOL. when they break i get mad so i try to keep up with services, and make sure i'm getting the right one to begin with.
  17. I am really excited to test drive the new 06 gs. I was at my dealer today and didn't see any around. I wonder when they'll start selling them here in rhode island. Maybe i just missed them. Trying to sell my wifes 03 gs. If you say that the leg room and trunk room is small it probably wouldn't exceed my wife's needs. She does a LOT of traveling as i do and it's very uncomfortable to travel hours at a time in a cramped car. She likes the 03 gs because it's very roomy, and not as much of a gas eater as the LS. I'll have to check the new gs out very soon. :)
  18. I will be trading-in my wifes 2003 gs430 this week and was wondering how much $$$ i should be getting. My local dealer (in person for about 10 minutes) said they would only give me $20,500 for it! I spent $49,500 for in in 03. That means that in only 2 years i'm losing 29 thousand dollars in resale!! I can't believe it AT all.. This is what it has: 5-Speed Automatic (ECT-i) transmission 79,929 miles (about 90% highway i'm guesing) Indigo ink pearl exterior (never waxed) Auto-Climate Control Power Steering Power Windows Power Door Locks Telescoping Wheel Wood/leather steering wheel (many ring marks, but not cracked or faded) Cruise Control AM/FM Stereo Cassette CD Auto-Changer Mark Levinson Audio Navigation System (perfect working condition) Dual Front Air Bags Gold package (emblems in front + rear) F&R Side Air Bags Floor mats Anti-Lock Braking (new brakes last month) Traction Control Ivory Leather (good condition except for drivers seat that has many creases) Dual Power Seats Power Moon Roof Rear Spoiler Alloy Wheels (front right rim scraped and bent from curb damage a little) Xenon HID headlamps (stock) Few problems with engine or transmission NOTHING ever broke on it Only a few defects are: minor scratches here and there and a minor dent in the passenger side door and trunk. Needs new tires (never replaced pretty bad shape). There is a chip in the windshield (about 1cm wide), and a crack in the front right headlight plastic cover. There is a deep scrape about 3x5 inches on the front right corner of the bumper (from bad re-paint job). My wife hit a deer last year so the front hood and bumper needed a little body work. They were repainted the same color by a local paint shop (No pealing yet). The rear license plate bulbs are not working for some reason . The dealer said that a customer would rather buy a new gs than get a 2 year old one in this condition, that's why mine is so low in resale price. But what i can't understand is how a 2003 rx300 coach worth 39k in 03 is worth 29k now! in the same time the resale is that much difference. Is the dealer !Removed! with me or are they correct? Thank you.
  19. Does anyone know how i could get a mirror tint on my windows? In florida last week i saw a BRAND NEW toyota corola with mirror tint wondows like the rx300. I was just wondering if it was a film or what...
  20. Extending on another topic of cold cathode tubes burning out in the 1999+ gs gauge clusters; -how many cold cathode tubes are there in the cluster all together? -Where are they located? i.e. vertical in b/t speedo and end gauges etc. -Has anyone ever heard/have had them burn out before in 99+ gs's ? -Anyone know how easy it is to replace if possible w/o paying through the nose? -Other possibe reasons why they are not lit i.e. wireing? Thanks..I have never heard of the 99+ gs models gauge clusters burning out before; thought i would get more information with a new topic title for others who have the same problem...
  21. I'll post a new topic to see if anyone else knows how many, and where the cathode tubes are in the gs clusters ;) . The title of this topic is not directly towards the 99+ gs models so not many people might have been caught on to the new problem.. ;)
  22. I didn't know that the 2 outside gauge cathodes lit the inner speedo.. I would think they all had their own...who knows. I have never heard of a cathode tube in the gs models burning out so i'm not imiliar wth the setup. I would contact the dealer for more info. but one of them is deffinetly out.
  23. I am just sooo bewildered how they couldn't match the leathert OR the wood grain! It's almost like they gave you the wrong one... The other wood in thee kit looks really nice. Do the pieces go right over the plastic dash? or does the dash plastic in some areas need to be removed? just wondering...
  24. what color are the gauges? green, white or blue? They are what are called cold cathode tubes, which look like mini long and thin light bulbs. I would take out the cluter and open up the gauge cluster in the rear. check and see if they are reachable. contact your dealer to see if you can purchase any of them anywhere, or if you need a new cluster.
  25. As fot the windshield i think it works well for bugs; rocks i don't theink so well. This is how they work: At high speeds it "deflects" the wind over the top of the car. without a deflector, th wind is not deflected high enough, so bugs will hit the windshield. With the deflector, the wind is deflected higher, dragging bugs OVER the top of the car instead of splatting on the windshield and hood. for rocks i don't thikni t works b/c a LOT of wind will be needed to levetate a rock 1-2 feet above. but i think it's an investment that makes a difference.
