  1. well i think i'll go down to 87. I can't find ay reason to continue using mid-grade and the increase in money isn't exactly fun to pay. Thanks for the info; your saving me a lot.
  2. i checked my aunts 01 indigo ink pearl rx; it's not painted underneath. Weird; who would have known why it wasn't, before now....good work.
  3. I leased my 97 ls400. when i returned it 3 years later a week before lease end, they only thing they were mad at was that there was a scratch about 4 inches long (primer off and all, so rust visible -big wow ) on the drivers door. They didn't care much about things that could be easiely replaced such as the tires. All they care about is reselling it and getting more money those 's! they were mad the scratch was there b/c who is going to buy a car with a scratch with rust showing? It's more work (aka money) for the dealer or whoever to fix it, to resell it to some other person for more moeny. so if you're worried about the tires don't be. but if you have any scratches touch them up B)
  4. if you are sure the battary is fine, it's probably something with the wiring. There is probably a loose wire somewhere that's creating a short preventing full electricity from getting to the light sources. i highly doubt it's anything but the battary. These are signs that the battary is going. Also the altinator might not be working correctly which would make the battary lose energy faster.
  5. ..lol i can tell you're not that much of a car guy (just kidding) I haven't really gotten attached to any of my cars. I havent owned a car for more than 8 years before ik got a new one. I HAVE been in accidents though none that bad though (thankfully) but i do see how bad it can be to know someone who was in a terrible accident..
  6. since the car is 10 years ld there is preobably a lot of rock ping scratches on the lenses right? that is probably making the plastic look dingy etc. I would get new ones from eather the dealer or a company etc. eBay will also have them for a fraction of the price. The stock lenses are already clear so there aren't that many new options. New lenses will look SOOO much better compared to your old dingy ones now.
  7. the cheep gas is 87 the middle is around 89 the premium is 92/93 ...isn't it?
  8. which gas do you put in your rx300? Does it really have an effect on things such as fuel sensors etc going early? How about performance? does higher compression with premium fuel = more power? I put the middle range gas in mine; seems to be fine but wondering if premium will prevent anything from breaking as early. I know the engine is the same as the camry, so does the fuel really need to change as well? thanks
  9. yeah the tint on the rear windows doesn't exactly act as any sort of tinting device unless it's bright and sunny outside. when it's cloudy you can see right in. The morror tint only allows privacy when there is bright sun to reflect on. I don't even know why the rx300 has that tint. It only loks good in my opinion on a blue or gold. Any other color it doesn't look that great in sun. The only other car i've seen the mirror tint on is a nissan pathfinder. It looks really ugly on that one too... They should have made some rx's with the mirror tint and others without, it to suit everyones needs...
  10. Yes i think the temperature does have an effect on the LCD display. The way lcd (liquid crystal display)screens works is this; It turns out that liquid crystals are closer to a liquid state than a solid. It takes a fair amount of heat to change a suitable substance from a solid into a liquid crystal, and it only takes a little more heat to turn that same liquid crystal into a real liquid. This explains why liquid crystals are very sensitive to temperature and why they are used to make thermometers and mood rings. It also explains why a laptop computer display may act funny in cold weather or during a hot day at the beach! One feature of liquid crystals is that they're affected by electric current. A particular sort of nematic liquid crystal, called twisted nematics (TN), is naturally twisted. Applying an electric current to these liquid crystals will untwist them to varying degrees, depending on the current's voltage. LCDs use these liquid crystals because they react predictably to electric current in such a way as to control light passage. Thermotropic liquid crystals will react to changes in temperature or, in some cases, pressure. The reaction of lyotropic liquid crystals, which are used in the manufacture of soaps and detergents, depends on the type of solvent they are mixed with. If we apply an electric charge to liquid crystal molecules, they untwist! When they straighten out, they change the angle of the light passing through them so that it no longer matches the angle of the top polarizing filter. Consequently, no light can pass through that area of the LCD, which makes that area darker than the surrounding areas. (howstuffworks.com) <- reference In english, this means that when an electrical current passes through an LCD screen, it makes certain areas block light from pasing through, creating a black area (part of "HOT" "COLD" or any number etc. Temperature affects the rate that electricity flows which could be the reason they don't appear or flicker. It might be that in the circuit something such as an unknown wire or line is cracked preventing electricity from going through. It could be anything..Does it only happen when it's cold? If not it's probably not a problem i would try to fiddle with....
  11. WOW! it works on my rx's too. I hold down the unlock button and they go down..maybe this feature is used to if on a hot day we can roll down the windows and moonroof to cool it down w/o having to open the doors and turn the key to use the buttons on the door to open them...cool
  12. what years do you think you want? Lexus came out with the first gs300 in 1993. This model was not changed until 98 when the 2nd generations came out. The kelly blue book values of a: 1993 gs300 is about $6,175. (first year) 1994 gs300 is about $6,800. 1995 gs300 is about $7,500. 1996 gs300 is about $8,200. 1997 gs300 is about $9,150. (last year) 1998 gs300 is about $11,500 (first year of 2nd generation) Very expensive for the age but they are excellent cars. but being the first generation of any car, there are problems that you will have to go through buying a 10+ old car, i dont care what it is. If i were you i would get a 98 or 99 ish toyota camry; it's pretty much the same size as the gs but will be newer. It will be the same price about and will be much less of a headache. I hav an 03 lexus rx300 and it has many problems. buying used cars other than for the looks is not a good idea. If you're getting it for the looks get it deffinetly. but if you just want a toyota/lexus in the 6-7k range that will be reliable, go for a newer toyota. Also keep in mind, the older the car the more miles on it. I would be surprised if you could find a 95 gs under 150 k miles. Lexus's are a toyota with an L on it pretty much, with only a few luxury features. and the parts on Lexus is more pricy then toyota for reasons unknown to anyone....I have only had a 2003 gs430, but it's assumed the 1st generation are just as good. good luck in your decision...but in my opionion, with that price range, stay away from an older lexus and go with a newer toyota or honda.
  13. do all rx300's come stock with this feature?
  14. does anyone have a polished stainless steel grille guard for their rx330? I can't seem to find one in polished steel. i have a MANIK polished stainless steel grille guard for my rx300 but can't find one for the rx330. thanks
  15. NEVER would i let my wife talk to me that way....if she doesn't like the car tell her to go and buy her own! wow you've got a spoiled wife :P ...just kidding.....look around for a good car that she likes. My wife loves the gs430 but hates my rx330. I don't get it, i hate the gs and love my rx330......every1 is different.
  16. i had one of the first rx300's in 1999 (AWD). in 03 the transmission went totally. I had never done any oil/fluid changes the whole time i owned it. I had the dealer do all the services, not me. I hated the thing for the transmission problems, but for the rest it was great. The AWD has all the problems, the 4WD not much better. The 2WD will not, that's what i would get if i were you. for some people, they might not do any fluid changes and have no problems. for others that even do change fluids etc it might have problems at 30k miles. It all depends on how the driver treats it and takes care of it. Mine went because i didn't take good care of it. I never did any personal services on it and for that i paid BIG. It all depends on how the driver drives it for ex, if they floor it/go slow...this will increase the time it takes for it to go...
  17. also consider the toyota highlander. it's the toyota equivilant of the rx300.
  18. yes the morror finish is PERMIMANT and can't just be taken off the glass.
  19. i've sold every lexus i have owned to the dealer. I just have them use it towards trade for a new one. I don't bother with strangers and ad's etc. i'm too busy for that crap. But if you want the extra money go for it; many people have done it.
  20. i have an 03 rx w/navi and it says the same thing...i guess no major changes were made from 00-03
  21. every rx300 will have these transmission problems sooner or later. If your neighbor doesn't have it now, they will next year. They all do/will...
  22. yeah it should work as well as the origional.....
  23. Well here is another guy who drives Lexus. In 1990 i had one of the first LS400's. I loved it so much i got the es300 in 1993. In 97 i sold the LS for the newer LS400. In 99 i sold the es300 because i got in an accident and couldn't stand looking at the bad body work. loved it though....To replace this one i got a 99 rx300. My wife (coming from a 95 bmw) got the 2003 gs430 in late 2002. She still has it today, and the best car she's ever owned. Then i got the 03 LS430 for my son last year and he doesn't feel like a girl, actually all the girls go for him B) ......After going through 3 accidents and having it stolen it's still in good condition. In 03 the rx300 had MAJOR transmission problems to i had to sell it. I had to get it fixed first before i could sell it (a $4400 job) and sold it for under 20k.....) then i got the 03 rx300 coach thinking it would be better. i was wrong; it is the most problemed car i have EVER owned. i'm selling it at the end of this year. Then in April of last year i got the new rx330, and the es330 for my daughter. I don't like it as much as the rx300 but it works. And for the es330, i think it's REALLY NICE!! The only thing i don't like about it is that i's silver...i hate silver.... I love lexus, and even with the minor problems i am looking foward to getting the new hybrid rx soon. My wife's GS is getting a little old; she's interested in the all new 2005 toyota avalon but i would rather her get the 2006 gs? an all new model? sounds good to me..... so for you thinking lexus is for woamn only, think again.... when you see other people driving in old oldsmobiles look at what your driving and think of that..haha
  24. and for the rims, i think 20's could fit with a little cusomization on the underside of the wheel rims. The whole car would need to be placed higher off the ground as well (dah). I looked at my 2003 rx (same as the 02) and it looks as if it can be possible. I really doubt 22's... also tell me a little more about your rx..is it silversport? have you done any other customizing on it?
  25. the mirror finish on the rear windows is perminant. You would need to get replacement window glass for the rear doors and talegate. I am not even sure if you could buy them anywhere...also it's probably going to be verrryyyyy costly...they would have to be custom made for you by a window factory? does anyone know of another alternitive? Using limo tint film wouldn't work because that usually goes on the inside for the best adhesion to the glass. If you put it on the inside, from the outside would still appear mirored.
