  1. before i had my 1992 sc400 i had a 1991 ford explorer and a 1990 ls400
  2. is this light in the gauge cluster? or on the outside panel?
  3. i'm not 100% sure but i doubt it's the same altinator. I would have to believe that a few changes had to be made in 4 years. It would probably still do the job though...
  4. what does the rx300 use for needle illumination then?
  5. i know it's kind of late but there are some more options. You can make your own needle at a much cheeper cost. Take your old needle and take out the SMD strip. Go to the nearest electronics/radio scack and buy an LED (light emitting diode) for around 2 dolars Atach it to the head of the needle facing the tip. This is the exact same thing lextech does. It workes just as well. I did it for my old sc400.
  6. hi i was wondering if anyone knew how the needles on the 2002+ es gauge clusters worked. Are they led's or cold cathode tubes? I know on the rx300's the appear the same but are white unlike the es which are red. thanks
  7. does the two wheel drive rx300 lack any of the luxury features/packages of the four and all wheel drive models? All i'm really interested in is the spoiler and hid headlights. Also the heated seats :D I don't think my parents even know the difference between two wheel drive, all wheel drive or four wheel drive. mom's got a 2003 avalon and dads got a 2002 volvo s..something. they don't know much. What are more pro's and con's of getting the older rx300 than a new highlander? ← To your question of does the 2 wheel drive lack any other specific features as the other drive train, i would say not necessarily. when the cars are first made the shells don't really know what transmission they're going to be fitting onto. The company tries to make different combinations to suit different customers. you might find a 4wd rx that's stripped and a 2wd with everything. I have the coach edition which has pretty much everything. But i saw some coaches that didn't have navigation for example it is an option that some people like and otehrs not. If you are planning on having a certain color etc, you should start looking quickly! When are you planning to have it for? Because it may take a looooonnnngggg time before you find one you're interested in. Some colors/combo's are rarer then others. And also remember that beggers can't be choosers lol. I would also suggest getting a CPO from a dealer, NOT a private owner. A lot of times when people selling expensive cars themselves there is something wrong with it and they know it wont be certified. Also if you see one priced unusualy low there's probably something wrond with it. And if possible try to see where it is coming from; i mean the kind of people. You would rather have a car owned by older people that drive safely then some new student driver (not implying that kids cant drive ). And depending on how you would drive and how long each day you drive it, it should last you as long as any other car. I would also suggest getting a 2002 rather than a 2001. The prive isn't that much more and it will be a WHOLE YEAR newer, and last you a whole year longer (hopefully).
  8. i understand fully what you are saying. If all you want is to see the road better at night, the silverstars are the best halogens around. But if you want that "white light" xenon gas will prodice it better than halogen gasses. and yes with the immitation xenons aren't as bright as others, but they have the appearance (color) of stock xenons. Pretty much you have 2 options depending on what you want and need... illumination of the road better: -silverstar halogens (around $40 at many stores) -stock xenons on later 2001-2003 rx300 (but new housing needed to fit) color: -immitation xenons's on eBay for around $20. -stock xenons on later 2001-2003 rx300 (but new housing needed to fit) I would just suggest what rl9905 mentioned; buy the 2001-2003 housings with the stock xenon lamps. They will have the brightness and color you want. the price will be VERY high probably near close to $1000 but it will be done..it will increase the value of the rx as well. It will be one of the only '99 rx300's with the the newer xenon housings/lamps. also you could probably change the reat tail lights as well. Then it will look the EXACT same as the 2001-2003 rx300, except for the interior hangles and wood/leather steering wheel and shift knob; priced at about another $1000....some big smart investments if you ask me...
  9. at least it's not just me, i go craxy over stuff like this. it really does look like a crack
  10. i don't know if any 2001-2003 rx300 owners have noticed this; on the corner rear tail light clear plastic pieces, a crease line in the plastic across from top to bottom? For example, on the far right corner (where directional is) tail light clear plastic lense, i see a crease in the plastic (looks like hairline crack) from the top right to the middle bottom. Is this on all 2001-2003 rx300 cars? or just mine... Anyone who has a 2001-2003 rx please look for me, see if i'm crazy... ..don't think im crazy, i'm just trying to see if there's something else wrong with my rx.. :o
  11. On the 2001-2003 rx300's the shift knob is half wood and half leather. if you like that better, i think it will fit the same. Just a thought. A little customizing could be cool B) might be a little higher in prive though :o oh well...
  12. In case you didn't know, the 2 wheel drive rx300 version won't have the bad transmission problem as the Awd and 4wd. You can tell your parents that their wonderful highlander 2wd and 4wd will have the problems too! lol...since you're from mass (near me :P ) i dont know if they want to to have a 4wd car with all this snowey weather. Of course the 2 wheel drive rx is better than any other 2wd car in the snow so you can tell them that too...yeah i'm kind of on your side on this one; i wish my parents got me a lexus as my first car. I had some 5 year old pontiac..lol P.O.S!! Besides MY rx300 i think any other rx300 will be fine...what year are you interested in? 2001? Must be because of the lights, ha..lol that will be fine for you as a first car. i would suggest the 2wd though. not a big difference. It will have a better trade-in value as well then the highlander. don't get me wrong the highlander is a great car but i will admit it's a bit ugly..lol... well good luck and keep fighting; they'll give in
  13. Why would they hate you? Dealers don't do warranty work for free LOL, Lexus just pays them instead of you. They LOVE you. Colin- Some cars have fogs independent of lows its not a US reg. ← ...well you know what i meant, lexus must hate me for all the probs im having with the rx. It's there fault for making a faulty one though, it's not my problem everything's broken on it...lol...i would sell it but for petes sake its only 2 years old...it must be cursed...
  14. i dont think it can just be screwed back on. I have NO idea how it came loose. I looked on mine (2003 model same as 99) and i can't figure out how it's attached. Try !Removed! it left and right if it can and see if it gets tighter. If not, get a new one it must have snapped off.. sorry i couldn't help more.. :(
  15. ...is the leather piece on the top seperate from the chrome base, or is the chrome base off from the dash?
  16. ...and before you go out and buy them, check to make sure what size the halogens you have now are. If they're not 9006 just get the ones they are..... ..also i donl know the size of the fog lights. Just do the same
  17. I'm not 100% percent sure but i believe the 1999-2000 rx bulb sockets are size 9006. You can buy immitation or real 9006 xenon bulbs. just pull the old ones out and put the new ones in. I got some for my toyota camry on eBay. I wanted the color of xenon (white w/tint of blue) like xenon's do. There are different colors of bulbs as well to choose from. The regular halogens you have now are the kelvin temperature of around 3200k. This is a yellowish color . At first i bought 6000k xenons for my camry and they turned out not to be white. Then i got a pair of 8500k and they were perfect. They were 20 dollars on eBay but can be purchased from many places. What you want is the following: size: 9006 color i suggest: 7000k - 9000k watage: 55w - 100w This is pretty much the best you can do with the '99-'00 headlights. If you want the real $250 xenons, you need to get the 2001-2003 rx300 headlight body's because they have the dynamic auto-leveling system. A new law out in a few states states that any car with xenons must have the auto-leveling system preventing blinding of oncoming traffic. But with the 8500k xenons this is not needed..
  18. hey welcome to the club! yeah its good that you're caught it soon. Have them replace the fluid with new fluid. Pray that its not that bad so you wont have to replace the transmission. It's like a 4400 job and it's not fun. Then you'll be starting over as if you drove it off the lot the first day. Except in 5 years from now it'll probably happen again. Fix it and sell it. you might even get more for it if you tell the buyer it has a "brand new" transmission. They'll like the sound of that
  19. i have a few questions before i can help: -what year rx300 do you have? 1999-2000 or 2001-2003 -was there an accident for example, where you need new housings/lenses? -or do you just want to upgrade the bulbs? -what kind of system do you have now? halogen or xenon w/ dynamic auto-leveling
  20. pretty much every possible thing that could, has gone wrong with my rx300...ughh i hate it and it's only 2 years old. The dealer must hate me b/c it's all under warranty and they end up fixing all of it. A bulb going out in the dash wouldn't surprise me. Im just waiting for those stupid needles to go out....
  21. What i don't understand about this is well...how?...I thought the low beam (regular headlights) indicator was the green circle thing on the cluster to the top left of the 60 mph mark of the gauge cluster of the rx300....How can this ALSO be the fog light indicator as well? I keep the bar switch thing on the left of the steering wheel on "auto" ..During the day the lights don't go on. When it gets dark out the headlights go on, and the little green light on the cluster does as well. This's wat i'm talking about when i say pilot light. If that green light didn't come on in the cluster, i wouldn't know the lights were on, unless i saw the reflection off a car in front of me or saw the center console lights go on. ..but if i turn the fog lights on, no light goes on in the cluster. So pretty much there's no way to tell if they're on unless i went outside to look. I was just wondering if a bulb was out in my cluster or something, or if this was normal...
  22. I had a 2000 explorer. The fog lights were changed in shape and position a bit
  23. if it is true that your parents will allow you to get a car in this price range, then i guess it all depends on what you like best. Since you like the rx300 and hate the highlander, take it from me DO NOT get the highlander then; you should get the car you like. It is obvious that you are a fellow lexus lover, so get it. I personally think the hihlander is a better choice for you for the reason your parents have; yes the rx300 will have more problems then the highlander. BUT...the rx300 does look better and like it was said before, you only buy your first car once!! Good luck and hope you like it
  24. yes there are many different things that can be done to help prevent the transmission overheating problems in the rx300. You can do that, or also just change the transmission fluid every 10k miles or so. This is an option but it would be better to bypass all these probs nd get a new highlander.
  25. Actually in my old explorer they worked very well. If it was extremely foggy out, i would turn the regular low beams off and turn on the fog lamps. They were located on the low bumper area therefore lighting lower to the ground. This helped b/c: since they're closer to the ground, they go through less fog distributing the light more on the street rather than in the moisture in the fog. The regular low beam headlights were higher up so it only illuminated the fog 2 feet infront of the car blurring my vision, rather than the road. The reason the fog lamps on the rx300 don't work is b/c they're only like 5 inches lower than the regular low beam headlights. And to top it off they're the regular yellow halogens; much less brighter than the xenon headlights. I wasn't asking if they're useless or not on the rx300; i already knew that, i've had them on for 2 years not noticing a diference. I was asking why there wasn't a pilot light in the cluster to let the driver know they are on.
