  1. if i were you i'd try to sell the 99 Ls for around 25-28 depending on the condition it's in. I know that my lolcal Lexus dealer has a 2000 for around 31k.
  2. ...it may appear pink without the tinted plastic cover, but when you put it on it will appear red. I did this to my RX which was already white.
  3. you'd think Lexus would care about it's customers a little more...
  4. if you wanted a red needle, just get the white one and put a little red perminant marker on the face. The white light produced will go through the red marker and look red. Simple but it works great. Any other color 2 as long as u have that color marker...
  5. what you could just do is take the cluster out of the dash, take off the tinted plastic cover and move the tach needle counter clockwise a little...it will automatically proportionialise..at least it did on most other dashes
  6. if you ever get the nedles replaced...if you're planning to keep the car more than 5 more years or so, i would suggest lowering the dimmer switch to under the "click." this will make the needles last much much longer without that much loss of light. Dont feel bad the stupid needles on every sc300, sc400, es300 and pretty much every other optitron dash go out...
  7. if i were you i would not buy a used cluster on ebay etc. You wont know if the needles there are working either and if it's used the needles are going to burn out i guarantee it...the old sc needles are made by placing LED's in a row producing a line of red light when lit. These LEDs don't have a long life deffinetly not enough for the life of a car. Either buy new needles themselves, (possibly cold cathodes b/c they will last forever) and you wil be starting from scratch again. If you are planning to keep the car more than 5 years i suggest lowering the dimmer switch on the dash under the "click".this will make them last much much longer without that much loss of light.
  8. Also when you get the new needles in....if they're cold cathode needles they should last forever...but if they appear to be the same LED needles as stock; if you're planning to keep the car more than 5 years lower the dimmer switch on the dash under the "click". this should keep them working much longer, without loss of much light from the cluster.
  9. i wouldn't change your 2003 hid xenon's. you're not gonna' get any brighter than that. just a suggestion.
  10. what i think you have in your es300 now are regular halogen bulbs..they give off the yellow hue color just as every other average cheep car out there....my bro has an 01 toyota camry pretty much the equivilant of the es300...last summer i wanted to upgrade them to HID aka xenon lamps. What i did and what you should probably do is just replace the bulbs. Pop open the hood, unplug and pull out the halogens you have now out. The size should be H7 im almost 100% sure. Go on ebay (best deal a nd fast shipping) and buy a pair of H7 xenon bulbs. If all you want is the look of HID this is the thing to do. The price u should be spending shouldn't be more than 10-20 dollars. MAKE SURE the kelvin temp on them is more than 7000k and more or equal to 55 watt...at first i got a pair of 6000k for my camry nd well it was ok..better than the halogens but not good enough. then i got a pair of 8500k and they were perfect! When you see pictures they look too blue but they're the same color as the Lexus hid. Unbelievebly bright and had a light tint of sky-blue to them. I wouldn't get the over 200 dollar ones they look the same as these and they are more of a hassel to gettem in. When you compare the old halogens to the new ones u wont believe how you got along without them...
  11. If lexus found out that the transmissions on the early rx300 models were having serious issues, why didn't they change the problem for the later models like on the 2002 - 2003? and why do the new rx330's still have a problem...
  12. hi i have been interested in the rx300 models and am wondering if i should purchase a used one. I was thinking of buying a used 2001 AWD rx300 from my aunt this spring. It has under 42,000 miles on it, has been serviced with the dealer its whole life, and is in good "looking" condition. I am interseted in buying a used Lexus because i want the reliability of a toyota and the looks of a Lexus. I would buy it from her in an instant but don't want to have any major 4400 dollar fixes for a bad transmission after ever so many miles. Do you think it's safe for me to buy the 2001 rx ? Or should i just go out nd spend the same thing for a new Toyota highlander for the same price knowing it wont be breaking soon (with the loss of the looks of a rx300). Also i cant say that my aunt's the best driver in the world so i'm having more than a few second thoughts. She's one of those "0-60 in under 8" drivers who like to floor it right away. Think this will have a greater effect on the trany problems? Thanks, Chris
  13. .........wat i think u r trying to acheive is geting ur 00 rx headlights to light up with that bright white/light blue tint as hid xenon lights do on the later rx models..??..another thing u could do is just go on ebay and buy the whole front light assembely for the 01-03 that already include the xenon bulbs in them..there ull get a great deal..the chrome lenses instead of the 00's black and xenon bulbs for only 'round 500 dollars.....and ur 00 rx will look like the newer model rx300 cuz thats the only difference between the 99-00 and 01-03 rx's..(the front and rear lights)..........good luck
  14. .....bought my 03 lexus rx300 w nav in 03 for over 43k......i wouldnt pay 25k for a 2 year old used 1 considering i could get a brand new 04 rx330 for a few more...
  15. ........i think ur right about the frequence of the garage and the remote being similar,,but its not likely thou..sometimes this happends to me wen im in certin places. but it goes away..the button on the key is not stuck idk where they got that from....sometimes wen i turn the microwave on i lose my internet..its strange..lol...good luck
  16. ya..i hav an 03 rx300 and the rear tail lights r different looking but the removal process is the same as discribed in the last entry..good luck..
  17. ya...for that price i would hav gone with the 2nd generation 01 or 02 rx300, but if ur happy with it thats all that matters right!!!....good luck with the fellow lexus...
  18. lexus is the most reliable car type on the road in my opinion...toyota makes lexus, its just that lexus is more luxurious than toyota..and has different models..i wouldn't suggest getting the 99 rx300 because it was the first generation and something's bound to go wrong, but if i had to pick between a 1st generation lexus and another car..it'd be the lexus...i own a 2003 rx300 and i havent had 1 problem with it...it has 40 k miles on it and baby it all the way..if u get a 99 rx its dependibility all depends on the prior user of the veichle, but with a lexus no prob......
  19. .....the only main difference u would want to kno between the sc300 and sc400 is the engine size...the sc300 has a 3 liter engine and the sc400 has a 4 liter engine...the sc300 is most likely cheaper and will give u better gas mileage because of the smaller engine compacity...but u still hav to use premium gasoline so i wouldnt be worrying about 2 or 3 mpg...go with an es300 that has the 6...
  20. .........i was just wondering if anyone knew if the needles on the rx300 clusters would ever burn out as quickly as some of the older ls models..??..because i think they are cold cathode tubes, but not sure, and know that they are known to burn out...thanks...
  21. ........r there any ways to change the needles on the older gs dashes to newer led's??..because many of the needles burn out and idk if they r cold cathode tubes or leds like in the sc models...
