  2. I am almost there, at 197k miles...on my RX400h, just changed timing belt, water pump, and idlers.....
  3. Oh Josh you are so destined to be repairing cars...Hey I know you enjoy it even though it is a pain sometimes.
  4. You are awesome, They will probably perform fine. I put aftermarket control arms on my RX400h and they seem great.
  5. Yup moved on to a used RX400h but love it and the challenge to learn hybrid stuff.Hey Administrators, Josh is not just a regular Member, he is our Honored Army guy...

  7. Oh Josh, I have wondered about you for a couple of years, Thank God you are well. Love your continued passion for these rolling pieces of Steel....Like your new wheels and look forward to your post on the Chevrolet Biscayne. Hey it is just a sister to your family of cars....May your day be great.
  8. two things, on My RX400h radiator there was a small hex head cap on the top radiator hose area. Also under the engine cover the radiator cap on the left side of the radiator. First the temp should not be going to just below red. You have either a bad thermostat or a air bubble in the cooling system. I would address that first.

  10. Ok so what issues can we help you with. I too own a 2008 RX400h and love it. I have 197k miles so far.
  11. You could have a bad shock upper mount, Do you get rattle noise when hitting bumps in the pavement.? One other thought, are the tires worn? Some when worn start really riding hard, and make lots of noise.
  12. I fear you are not alone, one other member here said it took about an year. You could call corporate Lexus and see if they could speed up the process.

  14. Is that the same code you are getting now? You changed three coils I assume on same bank of engine.
  15. Up in Sacramento area, our temps get quite hot in summer...So a 1 inch crack by windshield? I will have to look carefully.
  16. Did you have the gooey mess on your dash? So far none on ours....
  17. ok after all said and done, the early aggravation is over. the headlamp was not damaged and they replaced under warranty.
  18. agree totally. mechanic just came out and said headlamp was not damaged. but wanted to replace lamps as they are quite burned., but functional. I said ok, so 30 dollars for high beam and running light. rediculous, and that is why I do my own maintenance. just did second timing belt, idlers, aND waterpump last Saturday. so I am not a newbie
  19. ok, finally got the dreaded headlight moisture. took it in to get covered under the recall warranty and now they are telling me the car may have been in a accident and they can't cover it under the warranty. I have had car since 2010 and no accidents. the car fax report from CarMax where I purchased my 2008 rx400h was clean. the headlamp has no signs of damage other than moisture. I hate this warranty / no warranty. they want to charge 2 hours labor to diagnose whether the headlamp is damaged. I called Lexus customer no service and they opened a case bUT can't get back to me till friday. what's your thoughts, untIL this rain season I had zero issues with headlamps.
  20. I have owned the 99RX300 (12 years) drove to 187k miles. Transmission was my major expense. I now have a 2008 RX400h bought in 2010 with 88k miles. I have found the hybrid both incredible and scary. The Hybrid cooling pump went shortly after I purchased vehicle, Toyota dealership replaced it for a reasonable price. My wife and I thoroughly love the car. It now has 196k miles and I just replaced the second timing belt. I had a left front wheel bearing noise, but other than just replacing shocks, control arms, ball joints the car is a interesting beast. It is truly both great in town and on the road, surpassing the old RX300 with a better turning radius, and great upgrades in electronics. It is smooth, quiet, and very powerful. Yes the hybrid system is scary, but the Japanese built RX400h is a quality machine. I am going to try to push 300k miles on her. Brakes last forever, (they have only been replaced once). By the way Toyota can service it far cheaper than Lexus as it shares the same platform as the Hylander Hybrid. I will add that the electronics have not been an issue with the 400H. I just had the second timing belt installed and their was zero leakage at any seals (knock on wood) at the cams or crankshaft. As for premium price, the RX400h can be had cheap in the used car arena. I recall somebody just picked one up for less than 8K dollars. Funny that the German cars were mentioned as I had the pleasure of assisting a relative at a Speede Lube this weekend and almost unamiously the owners of Mercedes, BMW, and Audi said they would never buy another one, as they are always in the shop.

  22. Here is the ISC reset thread with procedure The engine will run longer when cold outside. It comes on to provide heat and get all sensors up to operation. As for the water a couple of folks have had weird hybrid battery problems and found water in the battery compartment. I may be shooting for the stars on that one, but it is very difficult to diagnose your conditions, so I am trying to look at easier solutions that are not labor intensive or parts expensive.
  23. Yes I understand totally, most folks don't wrench on their cars. But the good news is you came here for help. We can try to give you knowledge base to address those service writers when you show up. The service department may have ran the test, but I don't know if that requires opening the hybrid battery box and visually inspecting. If you type in ISC reset on this site search you will find the procedure, which even you could perform. It is generally listed under the RX forums, but your vehicle probably shares the same sytem. Good luck in your quest to fix your car, please post any findings when you get them. top of the morning to you.
  24. Did they check the battery compartment to see if there was standing water in the bottom? Other than that I would try a ISC reset.
  25. I cant remember but are there airbags in the post? If so be very careful. If it were a Ford F150 I would say no sweat, done it many times.
