  1. This guy is posting this(what is it?) all over the forum. My advice is to disregard. If you can figure out what it is let me know! Paul
  2. That's great! Were you on Interstate and do you remember how fast you traveled? Paul
  3. I can't answer your question specifically, but I can tell you what my rear parking sensors do. My car: 2010, ES350/NAV & rear and front parking sensors. When in reverse, and a target is detected, a diagram shows up in the space between the speedometer and tach. There is also a small diagram that shows in the upper right hand corner of the NAV screen. The same is true when the front sensors are engaged. I don't know if these features are specific to the 2010 model or not. In some GM cars, there is no screen but just an audible beep that increases the closer you get to the target. Do you have a dealer close by you can ask? Paul
  4. Yes, Steering wheel controls and bluetooth will both work To The Guru, Mr. dcFish! OK, you really had me going nuts for a while. As I scrolled through this thread I thought I had bugs inside my LCD screen. Then I thought I had glaucoma! The birds are way cool! How did you do that? "I am not worthy" Paul
  5. I am not an expert but, I can give you my thoughts. As you already pointed out, it sounds like an electrical problem. If it were the actuator it would at least try to go into the lock or unlock mode. But you say it doesn't even make a sound which leads me to suspect it may not be getting any power. Do the other doors work? If not check your fuse. If they do, you may have a short, loose wire like you said, or some other malady a dealer would have to trace out. Another member may log on here sometime with more smarts than I and be able to offer you more help. There is another thread on the forum posted today with a similar problem. Paul
  6. Good Morning, If an actuator can move in one direction, it can usually move in two directions, so I wouldn't jump on that solution right away. I looked at the fuse panel layout hoping there might be a separate link just for that side of the door locks. No such luck. You might check your owners manual for a "shift lock" fuse. Not sure but might give you a place to start. Also, think about a wiring short at the door switch. (Probably already thought about this.) Paul
  7. There are two settings for the auto door lock feature. They will lock when you move the shift lever out of park,or they will lock at a predetermined speed forward. The former is the default which you are in now. Here is how to set up the speed sensitive choice if you choose. Step 1. Close all the doors and put the ignition in the on mode.(Perform step 2 within 10 seconds.) Step 2. Shift the shift lever to the N position while holding down the lock button(picture)on the drivers armrest for 5 seconds and then release. Use the same procedure to cancel the function. I hope this helps and I hope the lock noise dosen't ruin a great Lexus experience. Paul
  8. Glad to be of help. I love your "No bookie, no driveie"! Thats great. After your experience with this, will call on you for ALL electronic key questions. (Just Kidding) Paul
  9. Paul, I'm a new guy to this forum and use AOL as well. Trying to use AOL to browse the forum not only delays the loading of the post/site, it actually locks my computer. I have to shut down and reboot to get anything to respond. MULTIPLE attempts through AOL were useless. I tried Internet Explorer and instant access with no delay. I'm guessing it's something in AOL proprietary security setting....I thought it was my computer so was very interested to read this post. (Sorry to again bump this subject off the OP subject line.) Thank you for validating that I am not insane....leagally that is. I too tried Internet Explorer and found that all of my problems went away. I don't know what's up with AOL but I am going to contact their tech. assist center and at least see if I can get some feed back. This has to be a matter of turning on or off some settings. Now that I'm on here through I.E., it makes life so much easier. Thank you for your heads up! Paul Oh, Welcome to the Club!
  10. This is not a problem unique only to the RX family. I had the same thing happen off and on with my 05 ES330. The locking of the steering wheel, and its release with the insertion and twist of the ignition key, was designed by most manufacturers as a theft deterrent device. If you didn't have the key, you couldn't turn the steering wheel, thus someone supposedly couldn't drive your car away. The flaw, was if you took the key out when there was pressure against the wheels like rubbing up to a tight curb or wheels turned tightly, you had a devil of a time getting your steering wheel free when you put your key back in. With the Lexus however, it just does it all by itself with no outside force that I know of, nor does anyone else. Now, with key-less ignition, all that has gone away and the problem is solved. I wish I had a solution for you. My 2010 ES with the push button start works like a dream. Keep bugging your dealer so Lexus will put some of their wiz kids on this. Paul
  11. I think it looks BAD!(that means good for you young folks). Go for it! Paul
  12. Let's try this and hope we can get you going. If you have your owners manual, look under "Replacing electronic Key battery". It shows in pictures and words how to go about replacing the battery. If you don't have the manual try this: You will need a small flat head screwdriver. The replacement battery will be a lithium battery; maybe a CR1632: Check the old battery to be sure. 1. Take out the mechanical key. 2. Insert the blade of the small flathead screwdriver in the SMALL slot between the two halves of the cover that was before covered by the mechanical key.(Not a very elegant solution I know.) 3. With the covers pried apart, remove the old battery and install new one, being careful to have the + side of the battery facing up. 4. Reverse the steps to reassemble. Hope this works for you. If you still have problems I bet your Lexus parts department would not charge you a dime other than the battery to change this for you. Paul
  13. Glad your here and want to hear all about your new pride and joy! Paul
  14. Until about 2 years ago I wouldn't think of taking my Lexus vehicles anywhere but the dealer, despite the high cost. I even had a CPO RX300 a few years back and that warranty was wonderful. For example, the dealer replaced virtually the entire suspension in a series of about a half of a dozen visits because they couldn't figure out what was making a creaking noise. It didn't cost a dime and we always got a decent loaner vehicle. But after reading this forum and constantly paying what seemed like super high prices for virtually everything they did on my LS400s that were not under warranty, I found an independent mechanic. Now I buy all parts through parts.com and only pay the mechanic for labor. Based upon the quotes I've received from the dealer, I'm paying less than half of the dealer's charges for most repairs by going this route. And I just replaced virtually the entire front suspension in two LS400s, so I've saved thousands. I don't get the loaner or the fancy coffee in a well appointed waiting area, but I can live without that. (Although, the loaner sure is convenient.) Anyway, now I only use the dealer when I have an issue that my independent mechanic can't solve. I have not had the experience of my dealer trying to sell me something the car didn't need, as I've heard others on this forum complain. It's just that the dealer charges more than twice as much as a competent independent mechanic, in my experience. The Lexus dealer system is great for those with a new car or CPO warranty. They take excellent care of you. But, I have to agree that if your vehicle is not covered by a Lexus warranty, you can end up spending a lot of extra money using the dealer, and I think that this is the overwhelming consensus on this forum. I enjoyed reading your post. Thanks for taking the time to put down a well thought out post. You make a couple of good points. Dealer service is wonderful for the type of person who does not read this forum/website. That probably includes the vast majority of the population. If you are the type of person who reads this forum, you already have a keen interest in cars, know something about them, and are smarter than the average bear. You are usually educated enough to know or find out on here when something is OK for your independent mechanic or requires a dealer tech. IMO the rest of humanity does not. That is the roll of the dealer. When your warranty runs out, your going to save that money no question with cheaper labor and other part suppliers from your "indy" sources. Again, you have that knowledge to make an informed decision. The others, the uninformed will call them, just want someone to fix the damn car. Hence the dealer. This is where half a dozen people sit up on their haunches and start posting about how unethical dealers are, their just a bunch of crooks, etc., etc., etc..That is not my experience and I can't apologize for everyone else's bad experience. My whole intent the other day was to call attention the the gentleman's good words about his experience with his dealer and as soon as it was posted, people stared insinuating that the gentleman was naive, a dupe, a fool, and on.You get my point. You mention in your post that the "overwhelming consensus" of the members of the forums is that you can pay too much by using a Lexus dealer. We have already agreed to that. But, to stop beating around the bush and be blunt, I am tired of people whining about and "dealer bashing" anyone who has a good relationship with their dealer. In this club, theoretically, we all invested somewhere from 40 to 100K for or automobiles. A sizable investment. If you have that kind of money, and you don't like to change your own oil isn't acceptable to pay the dealer 60.00 to do it. The other day a guy logged on and said he took his Lexus to Jiffy lube; it was cheap. We, I include myself, jumped all over him for using Jiffy lube. Pretty two faced on our part. We are know trying to put a measuring stick on what is the right kind of cheap. If you have the skills and knowledge to work on your cars that's fantastic, but if someone WANTS to use their dealer don't make them feel like the village idiot. I do not and probably will not ever under stand why people shell out these large sums of money for beautiful cars and expect them to cost pennys to maintain. Like I said before. You could have bought a Ford but you bought a Lexus.
  15. Just out of curiosity, does your present nav already include the software to integrate the signal from the sonar sensors so they show up on your screen when activated as that perimeter diagram? Other words, once you get your parts is it just a "plug N' play"? Paul I don't know. is there someway I can test for this capability? It would make it easier if the system already had this capability. I really don't know of any. My best suggestion is to talk to your dealer, tell them what you want to do and see if they can answer the integration question. Also, you can call Lexus customer service/support (on INTERNET) and they might be able to help as well. Additionally, there is Club Lexus forum, similar to this where you can post your problem. Some one else I imagine will post here eventually who may know a lot more. Paul

  17. I see no GS owners have logged on here so I'll try to chime in. I'm not sure, but in your glove box there may be a trunk release button or what is sometimes called a Valet Button that overrides the trunk release. If your model has one, check that for your problem. If not, you may have a bad trunk latch actuator, or as a wild guess a blown fuse. As for the headlights, I'd go to a good body shop. Paul
  18. I had been thinking that it was sometime this week when you had your appointment. It's always the case that when you need it fixed the most it never does it for the repairman. Let us know what develops in the future. This one is interesting. Paul
  19. Sorry for tagging along on the same thread. I am also in the similar situation. My 97 ES300 Driver Seat is not moving at all. No switches are working. No Forward Backward / tilt motion. No motor sound. My Mechanic wants pull out the whole seat to check the issue. Passenger Side works fine. Any easier way to diagnose ? Is this a common issue in ES300? Thanks in advance. I'll try and further muddy the water. I know nothing about the ES300, but I did have a 330 and I just read through my manual for my 2010 ES350. Have you checked for power in both of these situations. This may not apply to the ES300, but the 350 has a separate fuse for the seat memory and one for the seat adjustment power. The power fuse is in the engine compartment fuse box; the seat memory fuse is under the dash on the drivers side. AGAIN, I do not know if this is true for your year and model, but it sure would explain your problem. What I'm trying to say is check the power before someone rips out the seat. Please post what you find out. Paul
  20. Brett in AK, I guess there is always somebody who spends their lives picking the fly specs out of pepper. Like you, I have a wonderful dealer who bends over back wards to take excellent care of me. They go out of their way to save me money and reduce the price on my repairs and tires. You paid for the warranty and you got your money back and more. On an ES, certification is $1,000. You more than earned that back. For others to think that the only reason the dealer was nice to you was that they "made a bundle" is paranoid and childish. If they hate and distrust Lexus so much, let them go buy a Ford. Paul
  21. I have had two Lexus, both with light colored leather, (parchment & cashmere). The Lexus leather, IMO, does not show wear regardless of color as long as you keep it clean of obvious dirt and dust. Occasional wiping with a good quality leather cleaner helps keep it looking great. This takes about 5 minutes. The only problem I ever had with the light color was on the drivers door armrest. I had a lambskin black leather jacket and the dye from the jacket would transfer onto the armrest. I took the jacket to the leather cleaners and they said there was nothing that could be done. That any and all leather could do that. A professional car detailer was able to reduce the stain quite a bit but I just quit wearing the jacket in that car. I love the look of the alabaster and I hope you decide to go with it! Paul
  22. A camera shop or a watch store are other sources for hard to find small electronics battery's. Yours should be a lithium battery. Paul
  23. Everyone always tells me they think the BMW is a good "Drivers" car, if you like careening around corners and mountain roads, but they like the Lexus for its smooth ride and quite comfort. My wifes car is a 07' S80 Volvo. It was about 8k more than my new 350. But my wife came home the other day from having taken the Lexus for some errands and said she wished her car was as smooth and quiet as mine. Go figure.
  24. Welcome to the club! Nice ride. If some one doesn't post an answer to your trany fluid question soon, you can just call your local dealer and they should be happy to tell you what you need to know. I tried a search here but didn't come up with your specific answer. On line if you type " Lexus LS430 download owners manual" you'll find several sites for owners manuals, service manuals, factory maintenance manuals, etc. Paul
